Abstract: The wood preservative is a compound that includes a water soluble wax that has a chemically basic pH that is about 9.5 to 13.5. The compound is blended with the wood being preserved. Subsequently, a silicate polymer with a basic pH that is chemically compatible with the wax pH and a viscosity of about 1 centipoise is further blended with the wood to form a matrix of wax and preservative that permeates the structure of the wood without chemically combining with the wood. The chips that form wood products of which oriented stand board is typical, are first dried to a moisture content of about 4% by weight and then blended with a resin to form with the wax a water repellant matrix for the wood preservative.

A fixed attachment may secure the protection device to a dock, for example, and be configured for supporting spring-loaded solid or air-filled rollers. It may be permanent and spaced in a manner so as to stand off a floating vessel while tied to a stationary dock or pilings, thus allowing for vessel movement associated with vertical tidal action, current, and light wave or wave motion. The arm and roller section may also be rotatable from a vertical to a horizontal position, thus allowing for an untied vessel to move freely along the rollers oriented in their horizontal position while the vessel is either departing or docking, and oriented vertically, such as when the vessel is docked.

Abstract: Solar Grade Silicon is produced by decomposition of a silicon precursor, preferably trichlorosilane, in the presence of an excess of hydrogen gas, where the reactant are introduced in a reaction chamber whose lower portion is held at a temperature above the melting point of silicon and whose upper portion is held at ambient temperatures. The method is distinguished by the introduction of trichlorosilane through a feed pipe which is arranged coaxially inside an outer pipe for introducing hydrogen gas that functions as a cooling medium for the introduced fluid trichlorosilane. The silicon formed is collected in the lower portion of the reactor and removed through an outlet. Excess hydrogen and hydrogen chloride is withdrawn through an outlet and can, after purification, be used as reactants in the essentially closed system for the production of pure silicon from low grade silicon. Silicon particles in the off gases can be separated, melted and recycled using a particle recapture tower.

Accordingly, substrate processing such as film deposition and film etching can be uniformly performed.

Abstract: The present invention is a substrate holder system for and method of providing a substrate-to-mask alignment mechanism, securing mechanism and temperature control mechanism. The substrate holder system is suitable for use in an automated shadow mask vacuum deposition process. The substrate holder system includes a system controller, and a substrate arranged between a magnetic chuck assembly and a mask holder assembly. The magnetic chuck assembly includes a magnetic chuck, a thermoelectric device, a plurality of thermal sensors and a plurality of light sources. The mask holder assembly includes a shadow mask, a mask holder, a motion control system and a plurality of cameras. The substrate holder system of the present invention provides close contact between the substrate and the shadow mask thereby avoiding the possibility of evaporant material entering into a gap therebetween.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the production of a plasma (16) within a housing comprising means for the generation of energy in the microwave spectrum, for the excitation of the plasma, said means comprise at least one basic plasma excitation device with a coaxial applicator (4) of microwave energy, one of the ends of which is connected to a production source (7) of microwave energy, the other end (8) of which is directed to the gas to be excited within the housing. The device is characterised in that each basic plasma excitation device is arranged in the wall (3) of the housing, each applicator (4) having a central core (5) which is essentially flush with the wall of the housing. The central core and the thickness of the wall (3) of the housing are separated by a space (6) coaxial to the central core, said space being totally filled, at least at the end of each applicator, by a dielectric material (14), such that said material is essentially flush with the level of the wall of the housing.

Abstract: A method for selecting a freshwater fish able to tolerate conditions of varying salinity is disclosed. Fish are first selected by pre-screening for salt-tolerance. The selected fish are bred using techniques essentially described herein. The offspring of the selected fish may then be subjected to additional factors to increase salt-tolerance. Thereafter, the offspring are reared in normal freshwater conditions resulting in a freshwater fish suitable for brief exposures to saltwater conditions.

The octane or cetane number of hydrocarbon fuel being supplied to the HCCI engine is adjusted by: (a) converting a portion of hydrocarbon fuel from the hydrocarbon fuel reservoir to synthesis gas; (b) converting synthesis gas produced in step (a) to a mixture of hydrocarbons having an octane number less than or a cetane number higher than that of the hydrocarbon fuel of the hydrocarbon fuel reservoir using a Fischer Tropsch process; (c) delivering (i) a portion of hydrocarbon fuel from the hydrocarbon fuel reservoir and (ii) a portion of the mixture of hydrocarbons produced in step (b) to the HCCI engine; and (d) varying the amounts of (i) and (ii) in step (c) in order to adjust the octane or cetane number of the hydrocarbon fuel being supplied to the HCCI engine. An external shoulder on the cylinder liner can be supported by an internal flange in the water jacket, thereby eliminating direct contact between the cylinder liner and the engine frame. A coolant passage can be provided between the water jacket and the cylinder liner, at a point adjacent the topmost position of the top piston ring. An upper liner seal can be provided between the cylinder liner and the water jacket, above the coolant passage, and a lower liner seal can be provided between the cylinder liner and the engine frame, below the coolant passage. Coolant ports can be provided for coolant flow directly between the cylinder head and the water jacket, with seals in the coolant ports to seal the coolant, independently of the head gasket.
