Abstract: A flush valve for a toilet has a valve body with a flow passage that narrows non-linearly down from the valve seat. The flow passage is formed by a surface that follows a polynomial expression so as to define a computationally derived flow profile that more closely follows the narrowing exhibited by falling water as it accelerates under gravity. The non-linear flow profile of the valve reduces the presence of air in the valve after a flush cycle is initiated so that greater flush efficiency can be achieved. The flush valve can also have a wide mouth overflow that narrows to improve flow in an overflow situation.

Abstract: A modular, multi-articulated patient support system includes independently adjustable columns connected by an adjustable base and supporting a patient support structure. Each column includes rotation, angulation and separation adjustment structure. The patient support may be raised, lowered and rotated about a longitudinal axis in either horizontal or tilted orientation. The patient support includes a body support rotatably coupled with right and left leg supports disengageable at the outboard ends, that can be tilted, rotated and locked in place. An intermediate brace engages the base when the outboard ends of the leg supports are disengaged. The patient support structure may include two pairs of patient supports, each attached at the outboard end of a column and having a free inboard end. A coordinated drive system raises, lowers, tilts and rotates the patient supports, which may be positioned in overlapping relation.

Abstract: A modular, multi-articulated patient support system includes independently adjustable columns connected by an adjustable base and supporting a patient support structure. Each column includes rotation, angulation, separation and lateral travel structure. The patient support may be raised, lowered and rotated about a transversely shiftable longitudinal axis in either horizontal or tilted orientation. A coordinated drive system raises, lowers, tilts, rotates and laterally shifts the patient supports, which may be positioned in overlapping relation.

Abstract: A method for spinning clothes in an automatic washing machine comprises determining the size of the fabric load in the washing machine and determining a plaster speed based on the size of the fabric load. A motor gradually increases the rotational speed of the drum to the plaster speed while a balance condition monitor monitors the balanced condition of the fabric load. When the rotational speed of the drum reaches the plaster speed and the load is balanced, the motor rapidly increases the rotational speed of the drum from the plaster speed to an extraction speed. If the load becomes imbalanced at the extraction speed, the rotational speed of the drum is rapidly decreased to a redistribution speed less than the plaster speed to redistribute the load.

Abstract: This invention is an automated switch scanning matrix for obtaining user input. The invention comprises an integrated circuit with an output register and an input register, the output register is operatively connected to one or more user switches or encoders and the switches or encoders are further operatively connected to the integrated circuit input register. A voltage is pulsed from the output register of the integrated circuit which then flows through closed contacts of the switches or encoders in the switching matrix and is then detected at the input registers of the integrated circuit. The switch position inputs are saved in a switch save register. The integrated circuit sets an interrupt bit if any of the switch positions in the matrix have changed. This, in turn, causes the microcontroller to read the switch save registers thereby saving time for the microcontroller by not having to continually read the switch inputs.

Abstract: An internal unit of a washing machine or spin-dryer normally includes a washing container, which has a laundry drum mounted in the container such that it can rotate, and an electric motor for driving the laundry drum via a reduction gear, a transmission, or direct drive. The internal unit is suspended in a machine housing such that it can vibrate and constitutes an overall system which can vibrate in a damped manner and which is subject to unbalance-dependent resonance phenomena in specific regions of the rotational speed of the laundry drum. The causes of these resonance phenomena are vibratory movements due to momentary unbalances in the load in the laundry drum. To reduce these unbalance-dependent resonance phenomena, the internal unit is provided with a vibration sensor which is rigidly or substantially rigidly coupled to the internal unit.
