Abstract: A SAR analog-to-digital Converter (ADC) is disclosed with variable gain having a SAR capacitor array with a plurality of switched capacitors therein with varying weights and a SAR controller for sampling an input voltage thereon in a sampling phase, and redistributing the charge stored thereon in a conversion phase in accordance with a SAR conversion algorithm. A gain adjust register is provided for defining an amount of charge to be added or subtracted from the capacitor array prior to the conversion phase relative to a predetermined amount of charge. A charge control device varies the amount of charge stored in the array prior to the conversion phase in accordance with the contents of the gain adjust register such that the amount of charge redistributed during the conversion phase is adjusted.

Abstract: The invention provides a receiver for use in a wireless communication system that substantially reduces mismatch between an in-phase (I) component and a quadrature (Q) component of a received signal. The receiver achieves this by sharing or “ping-ponging” an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) between the I and Q components. By sharing a single pipelined ADC between the I and Q components, both the I and Q components are processed by the same circuitry inside the pipelined ADC thereby eliminating many dominant sources of I-Q mismatch. The pipelined ADC operates at approximately twice the speed as other circuit components. Consequently, I-Q mismatch, which negatively affects performance, may be substantially reduced. At the same time, system complexity, cost, and power dissipation are reduced by eliminating an additional ADC typically used to process the I and Q components in parallel signal paths.

Abstract: A successive approximation analog/digital converter converting an analog input signal into a digital output value by means of a plurality of successive conversion cycles, comprises at least one first input for injecting an analog input signal, a controllable capacitive network which is connected downstream of the first input and which is divided into at least two capacitive subnetworks and, at least two parallel-connected and parallel-operating comparators for defining a number of comparator thresholds which corresponds to the number of parallel comparators. The comparators are respectively connected downstream of one of the capacitive subnetworks and the comparators output a corresponding number of digital intermediate signals on the basis of the comparisons in the comparators. The analog/digital converter further comprises a register set by the intermediate signals.

Abstract: The present invention provides a cyclic AD converter that reduces power consumption by reducing active circuits such as an X2 amplifier or the like and is particularly suitable to implement in an integrated circuit and also an integrator to be used therefor. The cyclic AD converter uses an integrator 11 comprising an operational amplifier 111, a first integration capacitor C1 connected between the input and output terminals of the operational amplifier 111, and a second integration capacitor C2 to be connected selectively between the reference potential source and the input/output terminals of the operational amplifier 111 by way of switches S3 and S4. The integrator 11 operates to sample/hold an analog input signal and also obtain a signal equal to the double of a reference signal from a comparator.

Abstract: A remote controller detects an ON state or an OFF state of operation of pushing a remote controller key 2. When the detection result is the ON state, the remote controller generates a predetermined ON code S3 previously allocated to the remote controller key 2. When the detection result is the OFF state after it shows the ON state, the remote controller generates an OFF code S4 representing the OFF state, generates a transmission command by adding the OFF code S4 to the ON code S3, and then transmits the transmission command to a target command receiver. Therefore, the receiver can correctly recognize the contents of the transmission command S5 generated at the remote controller by detecting the OFF code S4. That is to say, the receiver can recognize the contents of the pushing operation of the remote controller key 2.

Abstract: A broad-band millimeter wave imaging system with improved thermal resolution as compared to prior art devices. The system is useful for producing images of metal and non-metal objects such as guns, knives and explosives hidden under clothing. A cylindrical antenna focuses millimeter wave radiation from a substantially one dimensional section of a target region onto a linear array of radiation collectors. Radiation collected at each collector is amplified to produce a set of amplified millimeter wave signals and the amplified signals pass through focusing delay lines to a millimeter wave lens. Millimeter wave signals are collected at the output of the lens and the collected signals are monitored by an array of detectors. The combined effects of the delay lines and the lens produce a focus of the amplified millimeter wave radiation emitted and reflected from the one dimensional section of the target region.

Abstract: A filter scheme for broadcast interference cancellation that is computationally efficient and numerically robust Airborne Low Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) operating in the VHF and UHF bands has been shown. At least interference Doppler filtering or interference cancellation is utilised. The interference cancellation involves prediction of the interference for each particular reception interval of mixed interference and radar ground response. This prediction is then coherently subtracted from the incoming signal.

Abstract: Digital beamforming is provided for use with electronically scanned radar. In an aspect, the present invention provides enhanced sensitivity, wide angle or field of view (FOV) coverage with narrow beams, minimized number of receivers, reduced sidelobes, eliminated grating lobes and beam compensation for target motion. In an aspect, the present invention employs a uniform overlapped subarray feed network, a time multiplexed switch matrix, and a restructured digital signal processor. Antenna channels share a receiver, rather than maintain a dedicated receiver for each antenna element, as in conventional systems. In an aspect, Doppler/frequency filtering is performed on each antenna element or subarray output prior to digital beamforming. Further, Doppler compensation is employed following Doppler/frequency filtering, followed by digital beamforming.

Abstract: A system for operating a GPS receiver in a GPS-adverse environment includes a plurality of GPS receivers, a plurality of remote sensor interfaces (RSIs), and a computer management system. The GPS receivers are adapted to determine positional parameters based on the GPS satellite signals. A first set of GPS receivers is able to accurately determine its positional parameters and a second set of GPS receivers is unable to do so. Each RSI is associated with a respective GPS receiver. The RSIs are communication nodes in an ad hoc wireless network. The computer management system identifies a GPS receiver that is not accurately determining its positional parameters, and in response, causes GPS information to be provided from one of the first set of GPS receivers to the identified GPS receiver. The identified GPS receiver then determines its positional parameters accurately using the provided GPS information.

It combines the concepts of observation-space and navigation-space differential systems, and operates a DGNSS base station in a time-varying mode, in order to rely on the built-in differential positioning and navigation capabilities of particular GNSS receivers while minimizing datalink loading and computational load in auxiliary processors. The invention achieves accurate relative positioning and navigation with respect to a moving base station, using DGNSS equipment that assumes it is stationary when operated in a reference station mode.
