  • Patent number: 7170593
Abstract: A method to solve the problem of a technique generally used to detect a defect of a semiconductor by calculating the differential image based on pattern matching, which requires that a reference image must be picked up to pick up an image of the inspection position in an area with the semiconductor pattern having no periodicity, resulting in a low throughput. The image of the inspection position is divided into local areas, each local area is matched with the local area of the image already stored and the difference between the local areas thus matched is determined to extract a defect area.

  • Patent number: 7170595
Abstract: An optical slit comprises two blades 40,42 which define a slit between them, each blade being independently movable. This enables both the slit position and the slit width to be adjusted. The slit may be aligned with the center of a light beam by aiming the light beam at a detector, traversing at least one edge of the slit across the beam path, measuring the intensity of transmitted light at the detector for each position of the slit, and feeding back a signal which adjusts the slit position for maximum light throughput. The width on the optical slit may be selected by placing the slit in the path of the light beam and measuring the light transmitted at the detector, calculating the percentage of light transmitted for that slit width and feeding back a signal which adjusts slit width to obtain the desired amount of light throughput.

  • Patent number: 7170604
Abstract: An overlay target includes two pairs of test patterns used to measure overlay in x and y directions, respectively. Each test pattern includes upper and lower grating layers. A single pitch (periodic spacing) is used for all gratings. Within each test pattern, the upper and lower grating layers are laterally offset from each other to define an offset bias. Each pair of test patterns has offset biases that differ by the grating pitch/4. This has the important result that the combined optical response of the test patterns is sensitive to overlay for all values of overlay. An algorithm obtains overlay and other physical properties of the two or more test patterns from their optical responses in one combined regression operation.

  • Patent number: 7170606
Abstract: A light sensor circuit based on direct connection of LEDs to I/O pins of a microcontroller. The LEDs are reverse biased and the parasitic junction capacitance is charged in an output mode. Then, the I/O pins placed into an high-impedance input mode. The time for the capacitance to be discharged by photoconduction caused by light incident on the LEDs is inversely proportional to an intensity of the incident light, and can be directly measured as the time required for the I/O pin to transition from fully-charged (5 volts) to a logic threshold level (1.7 volts). By using multiple LEDs, multiplexed between emissive and sensing modes, a wide variety of sensors can be constructed, particularly, when the LEDs emit light at different wavelength.

  • Patent number: 7170608
Abstract: The invention simplifies the apparatus for the analysis of organic and inorganic compounds in solutions and atmospheres, or particulates in atmospheres. The apparatus supports molecular fluorescence and absorption analyses of trace environmental contaminants. The design of the apparatus allows for deployment within the confines of a monitoring well or other locations of limited access. The primary advantages are the easy replacement and configuration of excitation sources and detectors to configure a sample chamber for a particular analysis while using mininal volumes of sample or reagent. Miminizing the volume of reagent used is a very important consideration in automated field analyses. The invention uses light emitting diodes (LEDs) and photodetectors coupled to fiber optics to reduce the complexity and cost of the optics and electronics of the measurement components.

  • Patent number: 7170617
Abstract: The present invention efficiently directs the flow of print jobs and efficiently controls the spooling and printing of print jobs. The multiplexer system analyzes jobs received from client systems through print channels. The multiplexer determines the attributes of the incoming job and the attributes associated with the print channel. If the attributes of the print job and the attributes of the print channel dictate an output path (either MUST PRINT or MUST SPOOL), then the multiplexer examines the state of the selected path. If the designated output path (printer or spooler) is busy, then the multiplexer decision is to signal a Stop_Flow to the print channel. The print channel is signaled to Start_Flow at a later time, when the output path becomes available. If the attributes of the print job and the attributes of the print channel do not dictate an output path, then the multiplexer examines a User Output Selection setting to control spooling and printing of print jobs.

Abstract: A printer controller in which the image data received in indexed format is stored only in indexed format. The image data is converted to long format when required for rendering operations by using an appropriate lookup table. By storing the image data only in indexed format until the time of rendering, the memory requirements within a system may be minimized. According to another aspect of the present invention, floating point operations (providing higher precision) may be used in a interpreter block and fixed point operations (providing more speed) may be used in a rendering block, while avoiding/reducing image artifacts in upscaled images. A check is performed to determine whether a pixel in the upscaled image maps back to fall within the boundary of the source image, and corrective action is taken if the pixel does not fall within the boundary.

Abstract: An automatic archiving system that makes document archiving largely transparent to the user. In one embodiment, documents scanned in or printed during the course of office equipment operation are automatically archived. For example, an office local area network (LAN) may interconnect a copier, a printer, a fax machine, and a document management workstation. Whenever, a document is copied, printed, or faxed, a document image is archived by the document management workstation without further user intervention. A single user command results in the document being copied and archived, printed and archived, or faxed and archived.

Abstract: Image processing according to a sensation expression can be carried out regardless of differences in output media or viewing conditions. An editing instruction for image data is generated by editing instruction means in a personal computer according to a sensation expression such as “sharpness” or “softness”. At this time, the content of image processing is corrected and according to a characteristic of a monitor of the personal computer by input condition setting means and displayed on the monitor. The result of the editing instruction is transferred to a laboratory as a general sensation expression script. In the laboratory, image processing is carried out on image data according to the general sensation expression script. At this time, output condition setting means changes the degree of image processing according to the characteristic of an output medium for processed image data and the like. The processed image data are then output by output means to the predetermined output medium.

Abstract: A halftone threshold matrix includes a plurality of submatrices, wherein a first group of the plurality of submatrices has a line screen frequency different from a second group of the plurality of submatrices. The halftone method and apparatus removes the restriction that at most one pel is turned on per basic cell for the next constant input level and allows the pels in some basic cells to be turned on much sooner that the corresponding positions in other basic cells. This creates a dominant low frequency line screen simultaneously with the higher frequency line screen of the other basic cells. The present invention also allows the basic cells inside the threshold matrix to have different shapes and sizes. Thus, the cells participating in the low frequency screen could be larger than the cells generating the higher frequency screen. For example, the low frequency screen's pleasing patterns can distract the eye from noticing less pleasing patterns in the high frequency grid and vice versa.

Abstract: The method reproduces an electronic image, having pixels, as a multilevel halftone image on a multilevel output device having N different allowed output values (possible density levels) by choosing for any pixel p a real subset Sp containing Np allowed values out of the set S of N allowed levels quantizing the input pixel value of the pixel p to obtain an output pixel value out of the Np values in Sp by means of a half toning algorithm, rendering the image by rendering the pixels with the output device using the obtained output pixel values. The real subset may be formed by the allowed output values closest to the input pixel value. The quantization may be done by an error diffusion algorithm The used method prevents occurrence of pixels having deviating densities distorting the output image.
