Abstract: A method is described for improving the long-term stability of a piezoelectric actuator encased in a potting compound containing or forming hydrogen atoms. Oxygen is contained in the piezoelectric actuator's piezoelectric ceramic. Appropriate means are employed so that unsaturated bonds of the hydrogen in the potting compound will release less oxygen from the piezoelectric ceramic. One means consists in reducing the concentration of hydrogen in the potting compound, with appropriate thermal processes as a result of which the concentration of hydrogen will be reduced to below a predefined threshold being applied after the piezoelectric actuator has been encased in the potting compound. Means that form bonds with the hydrogen in the potting compound or duct oxygen thereto are provided in further embodiments.

The column line structure includes a conductive structure formed on a substrate. A resistive layer is formed on the conductive structure, and an insulator layer is formed partly over the resistive layer. The contact between the base of the emitter tips and the addressing column line is achieved through a lateral side that is not covered by the insulator layer. The insulator layer helps reduce the possibility of electrical shorting between the addressing column line and the row line structure of the cathode assembly. The insulator layer on top of the addressing column line will allow the use of a thinner subsequent dielectric layer. This thinner dielectric layer, which supports the grid, will provide a lower RC time constant and help achieve better video rate operation. The thinner dielectric layer also will result in smaller grid openings above the tips.

Abstract: A headlight control apparatus and method controls an irradiation direction of a headlight. This apparatus uses a navigation-based swivel angle calculated based upon the shape of a road in a navigation-based control period, and a steering-based swivel angle calculated based upon a steering angle in a steering-based control period. When the control period changes from the navigation-based control period to the steering-based control period, this apparatus uses a value between the navigation-based swivel angle and the steering-based swivel angle as a present control swivel angle for controlling the irradiation direction of the headlight.

Abstract: A plasma accelerating apparatus and a plasma processing system, which efficiently elevate a drift velocity of a plasma beam and are simple to manufacture and simple in construction. A channel includes an outlet port opening at an end of the channel. A gas supply portion supplies a gas in the channel. A plasma generator provides ionization energy to the gas in the channel to generate a plasma beam. A plasma accelerating portion includes a plurality of grids transversely arranged spaced apart from each other by a predetermined distance in the channel for accelerating the plasma beam generated by the plasma generator to the outlet port of the channel with an electric field. The plasma accelerating apparatus and the plasma processing system elevate a drift velocity of the plasma beam more efficiently than conventional accelerating apparatuses that use an electromagnetic force induced by a magnetic field and a secondary current.

Abstract: A discharge lamp lighting apparatus is provided which includes: a high-voltage transformer; a switching circuit to drive the primary side of the transformer; a frequency changing means to change an operating frequency of the switching circuit according to lighting conditions of a discharge lamp; and first and second resonant circuits formed respectively at the primary and secondary sides of the transformer and having respective specific resonant frequencies different from each other. The switching circuit, before the discharge lamp is turned on, operates at a frequency ranging in proximity of the series resonant frequency of the secondary resonant circuit, and after the discharge lamp is turned on, operates at a frequency ranging in proximity of a frequency at which a voltage-current phase difference at the primary side of the transformer is minimized. The capacitance component of the second resonant circuit is constituted by a parasitic capacitance only.
