Abstract: A system for discharging inert gas for extinguishing or suppressing a fire is disclosed. A fluid discharge control arrangement is positioned in a fluid flow path between a pressurised gas supply 10A,10B,10C and the target fire suppression zone 20. The fluid discharge control arrangement reduces the pressure in the fluid flow path downstream thereof. This may allow the downstream pipework to be selected to withstand a lower pressure than in a conventional system in which the fluid discharge control device was not provided, thereby reducing costs. The fluid discharge control device may comprise a first valve 30 and first restrictor 26 in the first flow path 22 and a second valve 32 and a second restrictor 28 provided in the second flow path 24. Fluid from the containers 10A,10B,10C flows initially through flow path 24 and restrictor 26. Subsequently flow path 22 may be closed by optional valve 30, and flow path 24 is opened by valve 32. Fluid flow then passes through restrictor 28.

Abstract: A novel aerial boom system for use atop a vehicle and having linear movement sensors associated with hydraulic cylinders for moving lower and upper booms such that a microprocessor associated with the system can determine the instantaneous position of each boom and coordinate movement of the booms with respect to each other and with the vehicle to prevent undesired contact and to gradually decelerate boom movement as the boom approaches its limits to avoid shock from sudden stop of boom movement. When the novel system is used with a fire fighting vehicle, two variably spaced, independently controllable, fluid discharge nozzles can be used to fight one or two separate and distinct fires simultaneously. A piercing nozzle can be associated with the outer end of the upper boom that is independently controllable in both the vertical plane and in the horizontal direction to enable piercing of a wall independent of boom movement to assist penetration.

Abstract: A convenient, lightweight aerosol fire extinguisher system. The aerosol fire extinguisher system includes a fire extinguisher and a bracket. The extinguisher contains a pressurized fire extinguishing agent, and includes a depressable nozzle positioned at a top of the extinguisher for releasing the agent. The bracket supports the extinguisher in a stowed position, and includes a base for being releasably attached to a supporting structure, and a holder for securing the extinguisher to the bracket and allowing for easy removal in the event of a fire by pulling the extinguisher out of the bracket. The bracket further includes an attachment for releasably securing the bracket to the supporting structure.

Abstract: A horizontal sidewall fire protection sprinkler is provided, including a deflector having a vertical face, transverse to the fluid flow from the output orifice, and a horizontal shelf positioned above and perpendicular to the vertical face. A portion of the horizontal shelf extends in the fluid flow direction by a first length, with respect to the vertical face, and this first length is less than about half of a total length of the horizontal shelf in the fluid flow direction. The sprinkler is installed in a support cup having a raised mounting platform configured to receive the sprinkler body and a cylindrical outer surface, with a front edge in a fluid flow direction, and a back edge. The mounting platform of the support cup is closer to the front edge of the support cup in an axial direction thereof than to the back edge.

Abstract: An improved impact power tool for carving and engraving an article comprises an air delivery system operable to communicate with a pressurized air source; a drive assembly operable to receive air from the pressurized air source via the air delivery system; a hand held device in driven communication with the drive assembly; and a housing for storage of the air delivery system and drive assembly. The tool includes an improved valve design, a throttle bias valve, and an air storage tank housed within the housing, and an improved housing construction. The improved valve design and air storage tank enable greater stroke speeds of a work tool over a wider power range while also improving the crispness and speed of the impact reaction time over the entire range. The throttle bias valve is in communication with an additional exhaust path, such that th bias valve allows improved control of the hand held device and improved operation over a wider range of air pressures.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hand-held working tool, comprising a first unit, powered by a vibration on operation and a second unit which may be displaced relative to the first unit. A vibration isolation device is arranged between the first and second unit, comprising an actuator, for generation of a control force, by means of which the operational force acting in the working direction (A) between the first and the second unit may be at least partly compensated. The actuator is pneumatically operated and comprises an air spring for vibration isolation. A working piston in an air spring percussion device on the working tool serves to supply compressed air for the air spring. Alternatively, the compressed air can be supplied by the oscillating relative movement between the first unit and the second unit.
