Abstract: An acoustic liner 20 includes a remote panel 26, a proximate panel 28 transversely spaced from the remote panel and a resonator chamber 34b residing between the panels. Perforations 38 penetrate the proximate panel in registration with the resonator chamber 34b. A neck 56 with an inlet 58 recessed from the proximate panel establishes communication between the chamber and a fluid stream G flowing past the proximate panel. A bypass coolant passage 66 guides coolant through the perforations without guiding it through the resonator chamber.

Abstract: A room acoustic diffuser exploits interference, by reflecting waves out-of-phase with the specular energy, making it possible to diminish specular energy. This is achieved by using a diffuser based on a ternary sequence, which nominally has reflection coefficients of 0, ?1 and +1. A method for obtaining the design sequence for Quaternary diffusers is also disclosed. Also, design methods for forming the sequences into arrays, and forming hemispherical diffusers are explained.

Abstract: The aid provides a manner of supporting a plank, on a roof, for workers to stand on. The plank is carried on plank-jacks, but the plank-jacks are not attached directly to the roof joists. Rather, the plank-jacks are suspended via rope-slings from a pair of ridge saddles, which are firmly and safely secured to the ridge of the roof. The rope-slings are adjustable, and the worker can very readily adjust the working level of the plank.

Abstract: A sectional overhead ladder with a fold assist feature for controlling the extension of the sectional overhead ladder. The fold assist feature of the sectional overhead ladder limits the possibility of free extension of the extendable overhead ladder by preventing gravitational forces from causing the ladder sections to fall into their extended configuration. The sectional overhead ladder includes generally a stair structure and an extendable dampening system. The extendable dampening system is comprised of a dampener and, optionally, a housing. The stair structure includes a first section and a second section. The dampening system is attached to the first and second sections of the stair structure such that the dampener limits the free extension of the stair structure and assists with the collapse of the stair structure.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an elevator system for use during an emergency. The elevator system comprises two elevator shafts constructed adjacent to each other. Each elevator shaft houses an elevator car. The elevator system operates without the use of a building's power source by incorporating a primary pulley system to move the elevator cars. Generally, the elevator cars work in tandem such that as one elevator car goes up its respective elevator shaft, the other elevator car will go down its respective elevator shaft. Moreover, a secondary pulley system and a gear system are employed to also facilitate movement of the elevator cars without using the building's power supply.

Abstract: In an elevator installation, an apparatus and a method use a support end connection for fastening a support device to an elevator car, a counterweight and/or a building. The support device has at least one cable or cable strand enclosed by a cable casing and is held in a wedge pocket by a wedge. The cable casing is formed of thermoplastic material or an elastomer and the cable or the cable strand is glued to, fused together with or mechanically connected with the cable casing in the region of the support end connection. A friction force transmitted from the support end connection to the cable casing can then be directly passed on to the load-bearing core of the support device, to the cables or to the cable strands. The tolerable tension force in the support device is increased. The support device is preferably a multiple cable.

Abstract: Provided is a disk brake system for automotive vehicles capable of pressing a brake pad against a circumferential surface of a brake disk in a braking operation, thus making sure that heat can be readily dissipated from a friction surface with a minimized possibility of thermal deformation of the brake disk, which would otherwise cause a judder phenomenon to the disk, thereby assuring a stabilized braking operation, an improved braking performance and a reduced weight of the brake system. The disk brake system includes a disk with a circumferential braking surface, a caliper having a wheel cylinder and a piston extendibly received in the wheel cylinder, and a brake pad attached to a frontal end of the piston in a confronting relationship with the circumferential surface of the disk for making contact with the circumferential surface of the disk in response to actuation of the piston.

Abstract: This invention discloses a type of drum brake that can be used for automobiles, comprising a brake drum, one or more brake shoes, and one ore more brake cylinders. Its special characteristics are: the drum brake further comprises an ordinary gear train which comprises an annulus, one or more planetary gears and a sun gear. Here, the annulus is attached to the brake drum. The sun gear and a mounting shell of the brake shoes are attached to each other. The planetary gears are located between the annulus and the sun gear, and one ore more planetary gear axles of the respective planetary gears are affixed with one or more planetary carriers. By adopting the drum brake of this invention and the ordinary gear train, when the brake is applied, the brake shoes rotate in the opposite direction relative to the moving direction of the brake drum, thereby greatly reduce the braking distance and braking time.

Abstract: A control structure for a shock absorber that comprises: a base, a control assembly, and a moving assembly. The control assembly controls the motion of the moving assembly and is moved by a steel cable. A control member and a returning spring of the control assembly serve to control the motion of the moving assembly. The steel cable drives the control member to move, and the returning spring provides an elastic force for returning the relative components to their original positions. The shock absorber is defined with a working space for reception of the moving assembly. The moving assembly is provided with sliding members, and is formed with slopes form cooperating with the sliding members. When the control member drives the moving assembly to move, the pushing member of the moving assembly will push the sliding members from the deep portion to the shallow portion of the moving member, thus making the pushing rod move.

Abstract: A shock absorber having a valve controlling the flow rate of fluid between a compression chamber and a rebound chamber in a housing and separated by a piston. The valve has an orifice component and a blocker component, one of which has a permanent magnet, and the other of which has a magnetically permeable material. Upon the application of sufficient fluid pressure, the blocker component is forced away from the orifice component, despite the magnetic bias that tends to attract the two structures. Because the magnetic force decreases as the two components are spaced farther apart, the shock absorber has excellent performance characteristics. Alternatively, a mechanical spring urges the blocker closed, and magnetic attraction between the blocker and a spaced opener mitigates the increased force of the compressed spring tending to close the valve.

Abstract: A conveyor belt having a longer effective operating life when continuously conveying hot materials of the order of from about 300° F. to about 330° F. and without the need for premature production line shutdowns for belt shortening and resplicing. The belt includes woven upper and lower cotton fiber layers and two intermediate layers of woven polyester fibers. The layers are held together in face-to-back relationship with rubber skim that is subsequently vulcanized. The upper and lower cotton layers are structured to provide heat insulation for the inner polyester fibers.
