Abstract: A rotation detecting apparatus for use in producing a photo film cassette has an opaque detecting dog device secured in a manner rotatable together with a rotatable inserter. A light source device applies collimated light flux to the detecting dog device. A detection hole is formed through the detecting dog device, for receiving application of the collimated light flux, and passing light through the detection hole when openings at ends thereof are aligned with one another in a direction of the collimated light flux. A photo receptor receives the passed light passed through the detection hole, and outputs a detection signal according to an amount of the received passed light. In the retention, a trailer of photo film is picked up by the inserter. The inserter is rotationally inserted through a passageway of the photo film cassette. The trailer is fastened on a trailer fastener of a spool.

Abstract: The Trajectory Correction Kit (TCK) is a completely self-contained retrofit kit that is externally and fixedly mounted as an add-on to the rear (aft of the tailfins) of an existing, unguided rocket. The TCK continuously measures the pitch and yaw of the rocket as it is released from the launch tube and during the initial seconds of the flight and calculates the trajectory correction that is necessary to eliminate the measured pitch and yaw. Then it activates selected thrusters among the thrusters that are positioned around the circumference of the rocket body so as to steer the rocket in a direction until the measured pitch and yaw are eliminated. This results in significant reductions in both the rocket flight path dispersion and collateral damage.

Abstract: A semiconductor light source with optical feedback includes a vertical member extending upward from an upper horizontal surface of a header parallel to a vertical beam projected from a semiconductor light-emitting element mounted on the horizontal surface of the header wherein the vertical member supports a light-sensing element for receiving light reflected transversely from the vertical beam by a beam splitter supported by the vertical member. The vertical beam passing through the beam splitter passes through a window or filter in a cap mounted on the header and covering the light-emitting element, the light-sensing element, the beam splitter, and the vertical member. Substantially all of the transversely reflected light impinges on the light-sensing element and can be used to control the power to the light-emitting element. A simple lens can by used to collimate the beam. Interior portions of the unit are formed from light absorbing materials such as black ceramic, black plastic, anodized aluminum, etc.

Abstract: An imager in which two adjacent pixels share row and reset lines and a row selection circuitry while the output transistors of the two pixels are configured as a differential amplifier. In operation, both pixels are reset at the same time, causing differential reset signals to be output from the amplifier. The charge from the first pixel is readout and a differential pixel signal for the first pixel is output from the amplifier. Because the reset and pixel signals are differential signals generated within the pixels, they are free from common-mode noise. Correlated double sampling can be used to obtain the pixel output value, which is also free from common-mode noise, from the differential reset and pixel signals. The second pixel may be readout in the same manner. Because the two pixels are sharing circuitry, the pixels have decreased fill factor and complexity as well.

Abstract: A binning circuit and related method, wherein pixel signals from column circuits in a sensor circuit are sampled and interpolated. The binning circuit samples analog pixel and reset signals from different sensor circuit column lines. Once a predetermined number of column lines are sampled in the binning circuit, the sampled pixel signals are averaged together in one operation, while the reset signals are averaged together in another operation.

Abstract: There are provided an optical pointing device and a personal portable device employing the same, the optical pointing device in which a horizontal optical path is formed, thereby minimizing the thickness of an optical system and providing a sufficient depth of a focus. The optical pointing device includes a cover glass directly contacting an object, a light source unit emitting light to the cover glass, and a light receiving unit reflecting the light reflected by the object in a predetermined direction via the cover glass and condensing the light in the predetermined direction, and picking up an image of the light. According to the present invention, pointing is possible by using the surface of a finger and a horizontal optical path is formed such that the thickness of an optical system is minimized, and a sufficient depth of a focus is provided, thereby keeping a beautiful exterior of an ultra slim personal portable device and performing convenient pointing.

Abstract: A color measurement system includes a multi-purpose filter and optics assembly. The filter and optics assembly includes at least one tube array for segmenting received light. The segmented light is mixed and the polarization qualities of the light are modified so to minimize the effects caused by angular adjustments. A diffuser mixes the segmented light. Additionally, the color measurement system includes an ambient light attachment for collecting light from the viewing area surrounding the computer display. The ambient light collected is then analyzed, and a viewing area profile is created. The viewing area profile then can be used by software to adjust the colors displayed on the computer displays.

Abstract: A MEM s scanning device has a variable resonant frequency. In one embodiment, the MEMs device includes a torsion arm that supports an oscillatory body. In one embodiment, an array of removable masses are placed on an exposed portion of the oscillatory body and selectively removed to establish the resonant frequency. The material can be removed by laser ablation, etching, or other processing approaches. In another approach, a migratory material is placed on the torsion arm and selectively stimulated to migrate into the torsion arm, thereby changing the mechanical properties of the torsion arm. The changed mechanical properties in turn changes the resonant frequency of the torsion arm. In another approach, symmetrically distributed masses are removed or added in response to a measured resonant frequency to tune the resonant frequency to a desired resonant frequency. A display apparatus includes the scanning device and the scanning device scans about two or more axes, typically in a raster pattern.
