Abstract: An instrumental dial has a plurality of grooves defined in a front surface thereof. Each groove has a pair of side surfaces each comprising a pair of flat surfaces. The flat surface is closer to a rear surface of the instrumental dial than the flat surface. The flat surfaces are inclined by different angles ?1, ?2, respectively, to the direction in which the dial is visually recognized. The angles ?1, ?2 satisfy the relationship of ?1>?2. The number of times that incoming light is reflected in the groove is increased to greatly reduce the amount of light that leaves the groove and also to disperse outgoing light in various directions. The instrumental dial thus has a novel look provided by a spinning pattern, and has a reduced reflectance for good visibility.

Abstract: The present invention can provide a silicon semiconductor substrate used for and epitaxial wafer, in which uniform and high-level gettering ability is obtained irrespective of slicing positions from a silicon single crystal while generation of epitaxial defects can be suppressed, by doping carbon or carbon along with nitrogen during a pulling process of a CZ method or by performing appropriate heat treatment prior to the epitaxial process. Therefore, a crystal production yield can remarkably be improved because a permissible upper limit (concentration margin) of an oxygen concentration which is restricted by formation of a ring-shaped OSF region can be higher and also an excellent gettering ability is exhibited, while allowing an epitaxial wafer to be produced wherein epitaxial defects attributable to substrate crystal defects are not formed.

Abstract: The features with size at least in one direction 1 ?m growth method was developed by modifying liquid phase epitaxy. Number of processes was developed where duration and amplitude of the cooling pulse at the substrate interface were chosen in order to form low-dimensional features before system return to the equilibrium condition. This method allows obtaining low-dimensional features with observed quantum effect such as quantum layers, dots and superlattices. The shape of the features strongly depends on substrate orientation, stress and growth conditions.

Abstract: In a system, an actuator is linked to a valve rotatably installed in a passage through which gas flows. The actuator changes torque to be applied to the valve so as to adjust a rotational position of the valve based on a deviation between a current position and a target position. In the system, a first storing unit stores therein a first threshold. The first threshold is defined in a variation range within which a torque parameter is variable depending on change in the torque to be applied to the valve. The first threshold allows whether there is a possibility that an operation of the actuator is unstable. If the torque parameter substantially shifts either to or through the first threshold in the variation range, a restricting unit restricts variation in the torque parameter with the gas-flow being substantially kept through the passage.

Abstract: A method and a device for operating an internal combustion engine, which make possible a defined and reliable cutting in or cutting off a gas-exchange valve of a cylinder. In at least one operating state, at least one intake valve or exhaust valve of a cylinder is cut off or at least one cut-off intake valve or exhaust valve of the cylinder is cut in again, the at least one intake valve or exhaust valve being opened and/or closed using an operating element; and the operating element being switched off or switched on again using a coupling element. A response delay time is ascertained which is required for the operation of the coupling element for the switching off or switching on again the operating element. Furthermore, a switching time window is ascertained within which the operation of the coupling element is desired. Moreover, it is checked whether the switching time window is greater than the response delay time.

Abstract: A pressure boosting unit (110) is provided in each fuel injection valve of an engine (1). A pressure of fuel to be supplied to the fuel injection valve from a common rail (3) is boosted as required. An ECU (20) causes low pressure injection to be performed with the pressure boosting unit 110 being in a non-operated state, and high pressure injection to be performed with the pressure boosting unit (110) being in an operated state, and the pressure of the fuel being maintained at a boosted pressure. Based on the result, the ECU (20) corrects a fuel injection period of the fuel injection valve. Also, after the correction of the fuel injection period is completed, fuel injection is performed before the pressure of the fuel reaches the boosted pressure after the pressure boosting unit starts to be operated. Based on the result, operation starting timing of the pressure boosting unit is adjusted.
