    Abstract: A resonant amplifier is provided. A resonant inductor is connected in series between a source (emitter) of a common gate (base) transistor and an input point (i.e. output point of previous stage), and a resonant capacitor is connected between the input point and a ground or a voltage source connected to a loading end, such that a lossy resonant cavity is formed for carrying out resonance to amplify the signal. Then, the amplified signal is drawn out by the common gate (base) architecture. Therefore, the gain of the resonant amplifier can be boosted at desired frequency.

    Abstract: A tuning method and a tuning apparatus for tuning a filter are disclosed. The tuning method includes: configuring the filter as a VCO; utilizing the VCO to generate an oscillation signal according to a driving signal; comparing a frequency of the oscillation signal with a reference frequency to generate a comparison result; converting the comparison result into the driving signal in order to establish a feedback mechanism. Therefore, the inner components such as the gm and capacitance inside the VCO are completely tuned when the VCO generates an oscillation signal having a wanted frequency. Since the VCO is inside the filter and the components of the filter and the VCO are similar, the driving signal can be utilized to make the filter operate in a desired center frequency under a well-designed relationship between the frequency of the oscillation signal and the center frequency.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a diagnostic resonant cavity for determining characteristics of a charged particle beam, such as an electron beam, produced in a charged particle accelerator. The cavity is based on resonant quadrupole-mode and higher order cavities. Enhanced shunt impedance in such cavities is obtained by the incorporation of a set of four or more electrically conductive rods extending inwardly from either one or both of the end walls of the cavity, so as to form capacitive gaps near the outer radius of the beam tube. For typical diagnostic cavity applications, a five-fold increase in shunt impedance can be obtained. In alternative embodiments the cavity may include either four or more opposing pairs of rods which extend coaxially toward one another from the opposite end walls of the cavity and are spaced from one another to form capacitative gaps; or the cavity may include a single set of individual rods that extend from one end wall to a point adjacent the opposing end wall.

    Abstract: A tapped delay chain comprises a plurality of delay cells where each cell has at least two output taps: a primary one for feeding forward a delayed signal to a next cell in the chain, and a secondary output tap for feeding a slightly-differently delayed signal to a multiplier unit so that the slightly-differently delayed signal can be multiplied by a weighting coefficient. The split of output taps in each delay cell allows for a corresponding split of loading capacitance. Each output tap of the delay cell is loaded by a smaller capacitance than it would have had to otherwise drive had the split taps been instead lumped together as a common node. The reduced loading capacitance at each of the split taps allows for a wider frequency response range.
