Abstract: A dual mode motion sensor for detecting both motion of a moving target and a range of the moving target. The dual mode motion sensor normally operates in a pulse transmission mode. If motion is detected, the sensor automatically switches to a frequency modulated continuous wave transmission mode. This will allow the sensor to determine the range of the moving target. The sensor includes a microcontroller that compares the determined range of the moving target with a predetermined maximum detection range. If the determined range is outside or exceeds the predetermined maximum detection range the sensor will ignore the motion. If the determined range is within the predetermined maximum detection range, an alarm will be generated.

Abstract: At most airports, responsibility of air traffic control starts and stops at the entrance or exit to the runway movement areas, which are taxiways and runways. In the non-movement areas, such as hangers, ramps, and aprons, aircraft movements and separation are no longer the responsibility of air traffic control, but is the responsibility of other parties such as the airport itself, airlines, or other parties. The use of tracking technologies for air traffic control is therefore focused on the movement areas, not the non-movement areas, where there are limitations in aircraft tracking. Furthermore, many of the aircraft transmitting devices are switched off in non-movement areas exacerbating tracking problems in these areas. The present invention includes several methods including broadband multilateration, to extend aircraft tracking from the movement areas into non-movement areas without the need to extend special air traffic control equipment into those areas.

Abstract: In a radar apparatus having a plurality of antennas having switches respectively, malfunctions of the switches are detected by comparing the reception signal levels of the respective antennas with one another. Specifically, if the difference among the reception signal levels is at least a predetermined value, it is determined that at least one switch malfunctions so as not to be turned ON. Moreover, if the difference among the signal levels is smaller than the gain difference of each antenna and is substantially the same, it is determined that there is a malfunction in which all of the compared switches are not turned OFF. In addition, in an OFF state of each switch, if a reception signal of a predetermined level or more is detected, it is determined that there is a malfunction in which at least one switch is not turned OFF.

Abstract: To provide sub-meter accuracy in a local positioning system, ranging signals with a high modulation rate of code, such as 30 MHz, or more are transmitted. Code phase measurements may be used to obtain the accuracy without requiring relative motion or real time kinematic processing. The ISM or X-band is used for the carrier of the code to provide sufficient bandwidth within available spectrums. The length of codes used is less than or about a longest length across the region of operation, such as less than 15 kilometers in an open pit mine. The spread spectrum codes from different land-based transmitters are transmitted in time slots pursuant to a time division multiple access scheme for an increase in dynamic range. To avoid overlapping of code from different transmitters, each time slot includes or is separated by a blanking period. Abstract: An antenna device 10 comprises azimuthal range (“sector”) antennas in which an upward directivity antenna 21 is paired with a downward directivity antenna 22, and different sector antennas in which an upward directivity antenna 23 is paired with a downward directivity antenna 24. The upward directivity antennas 21 and 23 are the antennas upwardly directed toward a tilt-angle range, and the downward directivity antennas 22 and 24 are the antennas downwardly directed toward a tilt-angle range. The sector antennas are the antennas for transmitting and receiving radio signals from azimuthal ranges (sectors) being a fill sweep divided into three or more, and the two pairs each are disposed horizontally in an individual sector. By providing these configurations, while efficiently utilizing their installation space, effectiveness of diversity can be enhanced.

Abstract: A visual messaging system and device can employ high efficiency LEDs and current driven versus voltage driven circuits to reduce power consumption and enable the device to be powered from IEEE 802.3af (Power over Ethernet (PoE)) standard based power sources. The device can be powered from a local area network (LAN) connection using PoE, and does not require a separate AC power supply. The present invention also uses a 1× yellow algorithm to create the yellow color with one half the instantaneous current of previous circuits. The device can incorporate multiple message inputs for receiving and displaying messages having different priorities, allowing higher priority messages to override lower priority messages.
