Abstract: A solution temperature control device in a biological cell observing chamber (30) used for the detection of chemotaxis and chemotactic cell separator, comprising a first temperature controller (62) and a second temperature controller (63). The first temperature controller (62) measures the temperature of a solution filled in a pair of wells and a flow passage in the chamber and controls the temperature to a specified temperature, and the second temperature controller (63) measures the temperature of a heating part (64) which heats the chamber (30) from the outside to indirectly heat the solution filled in the pair of wells and the flow passage and controls the temperature to a specified preheat temperature. Since the state and quantity of cells moving from one well to the other through the flow passage while holding the temperature of the solution at a specified temperature can be accurately observed and measured, accuracy for controlling the temperature of the solution can be remarkably increased.

Abstract: A demolition/scrap processing shears assembly includes pivotally connected jaws. The first jaw has first and second laterally-spaced shearing edges. The second jaw has third and fourth laterally-spaced shearing edges. The first and second shearing edges have a plurality of staggered shearing apexes that sequentially shearingly mate with the third and fourth shearing edges, respectively, as the shear assembly closes. As viewed from the side, the third and fourth shearing edges are offset from each other such that the first and third shearing edges shearingly mate with each other asynchronously relative to the second and fourth shearing edges as the jaws close. Staggering the shearing apexes and offsetting the shearing action of the left and right side of the shear assembly reduces the power that an actuator must generate to shear processed material.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method and system for increasing safety in chemical application from an aircraft. Wind speed, wind direction and other critical flight parameters are measured, calculated, recorded, and visually or audibly announced during the aircraft flight via onboard equipment, which parameters provide a means for the aircraft pilot to control chemical spray application and for unassisted automatic chemical spray cutoff and for limiting spray application outside an application zone or target area. Such parameters also provide a means for indicating the lift reserve of the aircraft and a means for determining atmospheric stability near the ground and providing the pilot with a record of the meteorological conditions at a particular location. The method and system of the present invention also provide a means for predicting appropriate aircraft upwind offset distance to compensate for predicted chemical spray drift.

Abstract: Method and arrangement for reducing the effects of a sonic boom created by an aerospace vehicle when said vehicle is flown at supersonic speed. The method includes providing the aerospace vehicle with a first spike extending from the nose thereof substantially in the direction of normal flight of the aerospace vehicle, the first spike having a second section aft of a first section that is aft of a leading end portion, the first and second sections having a second transition region therebetween and each of the sections having different cross-sectional areas, the leading end portion of the first spike tapering toward a predetermined cross-section with a first transition region between the predetermined cross-section and the first section. The first transition region is configured so as to reduce the coalescence of shock waves produced by the first spike during normal supersonic flight of the aerospace vehicle.

Abstract: A safety pre-impact deceleration system for a variety of conveyances includes a parachute structure formed from air bags inflated with gas. Alternatively, the parachute structure includes a canopy with orifices. Air spaces in the parachute structure or orifices in the canopy have adjustable and selective dimensions to control the operational parameters of the vehicle. The system includes sensors and rapid exposure rate cameras with continuous loop recording to measure operational parameters of the vehicle and to predict possible collision. Once a collision condition is detected, audio/video images are stored on storage media. The air bags are deployed and inflated. In addition to air bags constituting the parachute structure, a plurality of air bags are provided to be deployed external the vehicle to aid in a safe landing.

Abstract: A fuel tank of a spacecraft stores a liquid fuel and a pressurized propellant gas that drives the fuel out of the tank though a fuel extraction arrangement including a reservoir or fuel collection container and a tank outlet. A spiraling or J-shaped or hook-shaped fuel collection channel and plural obliquely sloping fuel flow channels connect the fuel collection container to an outlet pipe of the tank outlet. The channels are configured, dimensioned, oriented and arranged to ensure that fuel will be retained in the outlet pipe without leaking back into the fuel tank, even when the tank is oriented horizontally and has a low tank filling level. These structures produce a capillary pumping effect and use the surface tension to separate the fuel from the propellant gas, and allow the inner space of the collection container to be completely filled with liquid fuel.

A wristwatch comprises an annular case band, a case back, an annular edge member, a glass, and a snap ring. A front side end part of the case band forming a fitting hole has an edge receiving face around the fitting hole and an engaging back face. A case back is detachably attached to a back side end part of the case band. The glass is fitted and fixed to an annular step part having been formed in the edge member. In the edge member there are provided a tubular part penetrating through the fitting hole so as to be capable of being inserted and disengaged, and a cover part overlapping with the edge receiving face. In the tubular part there is provided an annular attaching groove opening to an outer periphery of the tubular part. A snap ring is formed in a C-shaped form by a material having an elasticity.

Abstract: A movable arm includes a base secured to a mounting surface; a movable body pivotally attached to the base to rotate about the base and carrying an object; and a restoring body for biasing the movable body to a home position. An elastic modulus of the restoring body, a deformation amount of the restoring body in the home position and dimensions of individual parts are determined to ensure that the gravity acting on the movable body and the biasing force exerted by the restoring body are balanced regardless of the position of the movable body. Therefore, the position of the movable body can be maintained by the elastic force of the restoring body regardless of the frictional force and thus the movable arm is hardly affected by the wear, attaining a greater life span than in a case of maintaining the movable body by the frictional force.
