Publication number: 20070169547Abstract: Advanced electronic metering of natural gas consumption is a new opportunity in the recent free market economy of the utility sector in the US and Europe. Real-time continuous measurements facilitate our awareness in the consumption of a non-renewable energy resource, which is a first step towards taking energy saving measures in domestic and commercial buildings. We here disclose a real-time desktop information system for natural gas consumption based on a new wireless electronic flow-meter. The meter is drift-free by subjecting thermal anemometry to a novel modulation technique. It uses a dynamical flow-interface to control the exposure of a thermal flow-sensor to a streaming medium. A discrete modulation of the flow perturbs the total heat-flux from the sensor to the medium. The relative perturbation, normalized to total heat-flux, creates a Nusselt number which is a function only of the Reynolds number of the flow.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 24, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventors: Mauritius van Putten, Antonius van Putten, Michael van Putten, Pascal van Putten

Publication number: 20070169549Abstract: An apparatus and method are described that utilize longitudinal guided waves propagated along a rod placed in a vehicle fuel tank, or the like, to identify the level of the fuel contained within the tank. The system includes a magnetostrictive sensor (MsS) positioned adjacent to one end of the rod that extends out from the tank. The MsS both generates the guided waves in the rod and detects the reverberating reflected waves within the rod. A permanent magnet may be positioned adjacent the MsS to establish a bias magnetic field in association with the MsS. The system and method detect the waves reverberating in the rod and from the detected signals, measure a degree of wave attenuation. A correlation is made between the measured attenuation change and the actual fuel level within the tank.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2007Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventors: Hegeon Kwun, Ronald H. Publication number: 20070169550Abstract: For testing the behavior and monitoring the health of things, a novel, simple, low cost, highly sensitive, light weight, easy to install, flexibly wired, sophisticated accelerometer senses the motion of educational structural models that demonstrate eneraction—how the world and sensors work. A modified electret microphone with a mass adhesively attached to its diaphragm is embedded in a hard rubber housing, insulating it against environmental noise and temperature changes. Residual stresses in the housing, which plugs onto and grips a post protruding from the test object, ensures intimate interface surface contact and faithful transmission of motion. Containing an internal isolation amplifier, and operating over two ordinary wires, the sensor embodies popular, ICP (integrated-circuit-piezoelectric) technology. Standard telephone cable output connectors mate with educational, data-acquisition accessories for computers.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventor: Robert Lally

Publication number: 20070169590Abstract: A indexable, lockable mechanism for a hand tool, and hand tools with such mechanism, the mechanism comprising a first member having a first splined orifice, a second member having an upper prong with a second splined orifice and a lower prong with a third splined orifice, and a splined pin assembly for insertion through said first, second and third orifices. The first member is positioned in a gap between the upper prong and the lower prong of the second member with the first splined orifice coaxially aligned with the second and third splined orifices of the second member. The splined pin assembly of either the first embodiment or the second embodiment is disposed in the three splined orifices and is axially movable between an unlocked position and a locked position. The splined pin assembly is allows a user to move the splined pin axially in the first and second orifices between the locked position and the unlocked position.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventor: Charles Cole

Publication number: 20070169591Abstract: A socket and drive member used in a manufacturing process for driving fasteners is coupled together using an elastic sleeve. The sleeve is placed on one of the socket and drive and then positioned to cover a joint created when the socket and drive member are coupled together. The sleeve uses friction and/or vacuum to maintain the connection at the joint, thus removing the need for fasteners to maintain the joint connection.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 12, 2007Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventor: Cal Schincariol

Publication number: 20070169592Abstract: Pliers (1) operable with one hand have two plier legs (2, 3), which pivot in relation to one another about an engagement bolt (4) and overlap one another in a crossover region. The plier legs (2, 3) are connected by a control element (13) and a spring drive (12), which pretensions a mouth of the pliers into an open position. The control element (13) has two links (15, 16) that are connected to one another in the manner of a toggle lever by means of a toggle joint. A spring (14) pretensions the links (15, 16) into an extended position, wherein the spring (14) can be changed in its length. The engagement bolt is inserted into the pliers legs during a spreading of the pliers legs.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 24, 2004Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventor: Ralf Putsch

Publication number: 20070169593Abstract: A fish tape pliers is formed with opposed planar and curvilinear edges that form or channel disposed distally from the pliers' pivot connection axis. In one operable embodiment, the edges frictionally engage the fish tape within the channel. The fish tape in pulling an electrical wire through a conduit, is directed away from the handles and the users' grip hand. The jaws may have differently contoured or cross-ridged surfaces to provide the desired frictional engagement without damaging the fish tape. The fish tape pliers includes diverse complementary features for crimping, stripping, bending and/or cutting an electrical wire.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2006Publication date: July 26, 2007Inventor: Harry Reckhart
