  • Patent number: 7250699
Abstract: The invention relates to the vibration damper systems (here, method and apparatus) for active removal of beyond-normal internal vibrations from turbine-generator-sets [T-G-Ss]. The invention relies on dynamic forces generated by at least a pair (when symmetrically placed) of “wings” or by at least one “wing” (when centrally placed), or combination of that, and associated hardware mounted on the bearing housing, which operate to offset internally produced vibrations in an active or “real time” fashion. This is in contrast to the typical method of taking the turbine-generator off-line, shutting it down and then eliminating the source of vibration. The invention allows the generator to remain operational during adjustments. Thus, it remains on-line producing electricity and associated revenue. The system may be installed at presently operating T-G-Ss. It also foresees the simple developments to be done in future designed T-G-Ss for use of this method.

Abstract: A light-emitting device includes a substrate, a light-emissive layer disposed over the substrate, and a grating for aligning the light-emissive layer. The grating aligns molecules of the emissive layer, so that the device emits polarised. The grating also reduces wave guiding effects in the device, so increasing the useful light output of the device. The light-emitting device may be an organic light-emitting device (OLED). The grating may align substantially the entire area of the light-emissive layer in a first direction. In this case, substantially the entire emissive area of the device will emit layer of a single polarisation. Alternatively, the grating may align a first region of the light-emissive layer in a first direction and may align a second region of the light-emissive layer in a second direction different from the first direction.

Abstract: A spark plug for an internal combustion engine is provided which includes a metal shell, a porcelain insulator, a center electrode, a main ground electrode, and auxiliary ground electrodes. Each of the auxiliary ground electrodes has an inner side surface facing the center electrode through the porcelain insulator to define an auxiliary spark gap between itself and a nose of the porcelain insulator so as to occupy a minimum distance between the porcelain insulator and the auxiliary ground electrode. This avoids a great local increase in electrical field strength on the auxiliary ground electrode to minimize excessive discharge within the auxiliary spark gap to enhance carbon fouling resistance and durability of the spark plug.

Abstract: A flat panel display with improved adhesion of the anode to the second substrate is disclosed. The adhesion of the anode to the second substrate is reinforced to prevent damage to the anode at the spacer formation area and to stably adhere the phosphor layer to the anode. The flat panel display comprises first and second substrates each facing each other and separated from each other by a distance. An electron emission unit is formed on the first substrate. A plurality of phosphor layers are formed on the second substrate. An anode is formed on the second substrate covering the phosphor layers and the non-light emitting regions between the phosphor layers. In the non-light emitting regions, the anode is placed on the second substrate without leaving a gap between the anode and the second substrate.

Abstract: The present invention is a active-driving organic EL light emission device comprising an organic EL element comprising an organic luminous medium between an upper electrode and a lower electrode, and a thin film transistor for driving this organic EL element, wherein light emitted from the organic EL element is taken out from the side of the upper electrode, and the upper electrode comprises a main electrode formed of transparent conductive material, and an auxiliary electrode formed of a low-resistance material. According to the active-driving organic EL light emission device of this structure, the numerical aperture can be made large. Additionally, the sheet resistivity of the upper electrode can be made low even if luminescence is taken out from the side of the upper electrode. Thus, it is possible to provide an active-driving organic EL light emission device making it possible to display images having a high brightness and a homogenous brightness; and a method for manufacturing the same.
