Publication number: 20070217413Abstract: A method of assigning a predetermined IP address to a device for installation on a private network. This IP address can be assigned before installation into any private network without having to be reassigned and without creating addressing conflicts, thereby simplifying the installation process. A registered global IP address is obtained from an Internet Registry and assigned to a multiplicity of devices. Exactly one such device is installed on the private network. The device has an internal router that captures data packets associated with the global IP address, so that this traffic is not put onto a public network connected to the private network. Because the registered global IP address is unique and intended for public networks, no other device on the private network has this address. Thus, the device's assigned IP address is guaranteed not to conflict with existing IP address assignments on the private network.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2007Publication date: September 20, 2007Applicant: ALADDIN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS LTD.Inventors: Dany Margalit, Yanki Margalit

Publication number: 20070217418Abstract: A method is disclosed that provides a way to manage the registrations of telecommunications endpoints, and to prioritize those registered endpoints, or “contacts,” that belong to a user, without some of the disadvantages in the prior art. The technique of the illustrative embodiment, which is referred to as “contact priority reordering,” prioritizes the contacts that are associated with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) public address of a user, without having to modify any endpoints. Moreover, the technique is interoperable with any SIP endpoint. The technique can be regarded as a reordering process because it overrides any endpoint ordering that occurs at a registrar server as a consequence of the registrations and re-registrations of the individual endpoints. Advantageously, the technique prioritizes the contacts that are associated with a particular public address without requiring that any changes be made to the registrar server—or to any other SIP servers.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Applicant: Avaya Technology LLCInventors: Albert Baker, Eileen Rose

Publication number: 20070217419Abstract: A technique efficiently routes Internet Protocol (IP) traffic on paths between customer edge devices (CEs) across a provider network (“CE-CE paths”) in a computer network. According to the novel technique, a path computation element (PCE), e.g., a provider edge device (PE), may learn dynamic link attribute information of remote links from the provider network to one or more remote CEs (e.g., “PE-CE links” or “CE-PE links”). A multi-homed requesting CE requests from the PCE a set of CE-CE path metrics (e.g., costs) to one or more remote destination address prefixes, e.g., via each multihomed CE-PE link from the requesting CE. In response to the request, the PCE computes the set of available CE-CE paths and current metrics to the remote destination address prefixes and returns the corresponding CE-CE path metrics to the requesting CE. The requesting CE modifies its IP forwarding entries accordingly in order to perform IP traffic routing corresponding to the CE-CE path metrics (e.g.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Jean-Philippe Vasseur

Publication number: 20070217432Abstract: A system and method for communicating information in a wireless cooperative relay network of nodes, the nodes including a source, a set of relays, and a destination. The source broadcasts a code word encoded as a data stream using a rateless code. The relays receive the data stream, decode the data stream to recover the code word, and reencode and transmit the recovered code word as the data stream with the rateless code. The destination receives and decodes the reencoded data streams to recover the code word.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventors: Andreas Molisch, Neelesh Mehta, Jonathan Yedidia, Jinyun Zhang

Publication number: 20070217433Abstract: An apparatus, computer program and method are provided. A first control signal is received from a first network node and a second control signal is received from a second network node. From the received first and second control signals is determined a first relative weight and a second relative weight. A first message is received and a second message is received, which may be from different sources. The received first message is relayed by transmitting it after amplifying according to the first relative weight, and the received second message is relayed by transmitting it after amplifying according to the second relative weight. The relayed messages may be transmitted to different destinations, and in a full duplex mode. Further aspects include using the relative weights to load balance or set network coverage area as between the network nodes.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2007Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventors: Klaus Doppler, Ari Hottinen, Taneli Riihonen

Publication number: 20070217434Abstract: A system and method for configuring a communication device such as IP phone to operate in central and remote networks is disclosed. A central network includes an Internet Gateway Device, an Internet Protocol Private Branch Exchange (IP PBX) and a communication device. The communication device downloads and stores a configuration file including the externally-visible IP address or unique host name of the IP PBX. Upon installation in a remote network, the communication device uses its configuration file to locate the IP PBX and configure itself automatically for use in the remote network.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Robert Welbourn

Publication number: 20070217435Abstract: These various embodiments are usable in a context that comprises a first network that serves to communicatively couple an entity within a second network (which second network is different than the first network) with an end user platform. Pursuant to these teachings this entity is identified as having a predetermined status with respect to being provided with information regarding at least one first network event. When the first network event is detected within the first network, a message is provided to the entity regarding this first network event. By one approach the entity can acquire the indicated status via a subscription process.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventors: Ronald Crocker, John Harris, Sean Kelley, James Marocchi, Johanna Wild

Publication number: 20070217436Abstract: Methods and apparatus for centralized content, media and data delivery and access within a premises such as, e.g., a residence. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a remotely manageable premises device that acts as a centralized client networking platform, providing gateway services such as network management as well as traditional content and high-speed data delivery functions. The device also acts as the shared internet connection for all devices in the premises via a cable modem, sharing personal and DVR content such as video, music and photos (and any associated metadata) throughout the premises, and providing both a wired and wireless network in the home. Telephony services utilizing e.g., embedded multimedia terminal adapter (eMTA) and/or Wi-Fi architectures may also be provided via the device. The device can also provide a trusted domain for content or data, as well as allowing a subscriber total mobility in the home.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2006Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventors: Jeffrey Markley, Louis Williamson, John Carlucci

Publication number: 20070217437Abstract: A system for (and a method of) selectively establishing communication with one of plural devices associated with a single telephone number during a disaster or disaster recovery period. The method can offer disaster recovery to an enterprise depending upon its size, financial well-being and desired capabilities. For example, the enterprise has the option of owning or renting all of the equipment required so that it may perform disaster recovery on its own and with little outside intervention. The enterprise may own some or none of the necessary equipment and contract with a service bureau so that the bureau provides recovery equipment when needed. The system also provides for roll call, priority preemption and seamless switching services to and from circuit and packet communication devices.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2007Publication date: September 20, 2007Inventor: Stephen Forte
