  • Patent number: 7274522
Abstract: A reflective optical system for projectors comprises a single integral piece of transparent optical molding having at least an incident surface, an exit surface, and two or more internal reflection surfaces between the incident surface and the exit surface, each reflection power having a power, positive or negative. The reflective optical system is provided with grooves, desirably blackened grooves, formed between the internal reflection surfaces so as to block out undesirable light proceeding therein. The internal reflection surfaces are formed by coating an aluminum film on an outer wall of the transparent optical molding. The reflective optical system reflects incoming image bearing light through the incident surface on the internal reflection surfaces in turn and projects the image bearing light through the exit surface so as thereby to project an image on a remote screen.

  • Patent number: 7274523
Abstract: A preamplifier for correcting for thermal asperity transients in disk drives using magneto resistive read heads. The preamplifier has an input gain stage receiving a signal from the read head and an output buffer outputting a reader output to a read channel that is filtered of thermal asperity transients by a high pass filter positioned between the input gain stage and the output buffer. The high pass filter is voltage controlled based on an input control signal from a filter controller. The filter controller uses a low pass filter functioning as a peak detector to detect peaks in either the input or output voltage of the high pass filter. The low pass filter output is applied to a non-linear function generator generating the control signal for the high pass filter based on an increasing function of the absolute value of the low pass filter output.

  • Patent number: 7274526
Abstract: A tape drive apparatus has at least one rotary head for reading/writing a track. The track has a number of fragments and each fragment has an identifier. The tape drive apparatus has a position indicator apparatus for providing a signal that indicates a rotational position of the head. • Patent number: 7274529
Abstract: A magnetic recording hard disk drive (HDD) uses adaptive braking of the voice coil motor (VCM) actuator upon unexpected loss of power during a track seek. An adaptive braking controller applies a preselected value of brake voltage to the VCM to reverse the motion of the freely-moving actuator. The value of the selected brake voltage is determined from the actuator velocity. A set of brake voltage values is stored in memory in the HDD, and each brake voltage value corresponds to a band of track seek lengths, with each band representing a range of actuator velocities. For each seek, the value of brake voltage corresponding to the band in which the seek length falls is stored in a register. If emergency power-off (EPO) occurs during the seek, the value of brake voltage is recalled from the register and applied to the VCM to brake the VCM. After the VCM has been adaptively braked in this manner, actuator retract occurs to unload the heads.
