Abstract: A networked computer system in which a gateway is selected for efficient transmission over a network using a layered protocol. When a transmission over the network fails, information at multiple protocol layers indicates the usability of the gateway through which the failed transmission was made. In a layered protocol with an application or connection layer, a path layer and a link layer, information at the link layer is used to determine whether retransmission through the same gateway should be attempted. Information at the path layer is used to determine whether the gateway is faulty. Information from the application or connection layer is used to determine whether responses are received to transmissions. These determinations are used in setting the status of the gateway, which in turn is used to prioritize gateways when selecting a gateway for future transmissions.

Abstract: The invention realizes defect indication on a multipoint logical path and switching of the logical path when the multipoint logical path is configured using a transfer protocol of configuring a logical path, typified by MPLS etc., in a ring network. Two routes of the multipoint logical paths, a working path and a backup path, are set up. Each of them not only transmits a frame transmitted from a transmitting end node to multicast receiving end nodes but also forwards the frame to the transmitting end node and terminates it also at the transmitting end node after making it go around the ring. Any node that detects a defect transmits a forward defect indication frame to a multipoint logical path in which the defect occurs. The transmitting end node having received the forward defect indication frame halts the use of the notified multipoint logical path, and transmits a frame in another path in which the forward defect indication frame is not received within a fixed time period.

Abstract: Without using additional probing packets, estimates of the narrow link bandwidth and available bandwidth of a network path are computed based on existing traffic. The network can be of different types such as a wireless battlefield network context or a wired or wireless commercial network environment. “Fast packets”, i.e. those packets which do not experience any queuing delay in the network, are identified. Fast packets are identified to resolve end-to-end packet delay into its constituent components (deterministic, transmission and queuing delays), estimate path utilization and eliminate the uncertainty (false alarms) that causes the prior art method to lose its effectiveness. An estimation algorithm computes end-to-end transmission delay and end-to-end deterministic delay of fast packets traveling along a path in a network. Examples of deterministic delay include satellite propagation delays and clock effects.

While a remote station is in the improved Control-Hold Mode, the circuitry that monitors the forward packet data channels and the associated control channels are turned off. Since the forward packet data channels and their associated control channels are not monitored, the operations of the reverse channels can be gated off to predetermined duty cycles, or set on intermittent transmission modes, or shut down completely. Transitions from the Control-Hold Mode to the Active Mode can be initiated by the remote station or by a base station. When a transition is initiated by a remote station, the remote station transmits a signaling message to a serving base station and then starts operating the feedback channels before actually receiving forward link signals.

Abstract: The proposed method and apparatus reduces an amount of power required for nodes to both transmit and receive messages. In particular, broadcast packets are sent in an awake period (ATIM window) if the length of these messages is small. Because these packets do not need acknowledgment or they do not expect immediate reply, they may be broadcast in the ATIM window. Since all nodes are awake during the ATIM window, nodes may receive messages during this period of time which they ordinarily would need to stay awake to receive in the sleep period (post ATIM window).

Abstract: An apparatus for processing a downlink frame is provided which includes receiver circuitry (324), a physical layer processor (346) coupled to the receiver circuitry (324) and a MAC layer processor (348) coupled to the physical layer processor (346) is provided. The receiver circuitry (324) receives radio frequency (RF) signals and demodulates the RF signals to recover the downlink frame. The physical layer processor (346) processes the downlink frame to recover a plurality of MPDUs (704), each MPDU (500) including a CID (508). And the MAC layer processor (348) receives one of the plurality of MPDUs (806, 810) from the physical layer processor (346), processes it to recover its CID (812), and determines in response to the CID whether to process a next one of the MPDUs or whether to cease processing of the MPDUs (816).

Abstract: A number N physical resource blocks PRBs are allocated among M users in a single control signal, in which some PRBs are allocated as localized to only one user UE and some PRBs are allocated as distributed among multiple UEs. The control signal includes M allocation entries, allocation type bits and a user index sequence of N user indexes. Each allocation entry comprises a UE-ID for indicating to which user a corresponding resource is allocated, where an order of the allocation entries indicates a relationship between the user index and the UE-ID. Individual ones of the allocation type bits corresponds to an individual one of the UE index. The allocation type bits indicate whether a corresponding UE is to use localized allocation or distributed allocation.

Abstract: Embodiments describe mobility management utilizing neighbor discovery and at least two pseudo wires. When a wireless device desires to handoff to a detected access router, such handoff may not be configured until such time as a current access router receives routing information of the target access router. In order to minimize handoff time, communication between the target access router and the wireless device can be through the current access router utilizing least two pseudo wires. Bidirectional neighbor discovery and create is conducted by the access routers allow subsequent wireless devices to automatically handoff between the access routers.

Abstract: Improved ways of communicating assignment signals using flash signaling are described, e.g., for wireless terminals with low SNR, that are more robust against large variation of channel gains due to e.g., frequency selective fading and fast fading in time. Coding and modulation methods and apparatus that have excellent properties against symbol erasures are described. The use of flash signaling provides an improved assignment channel having strong performance on the fading channel without compromising the performance on the AWGN channel. In one exemplary embodiment, the coding and modulation method can tolerate up to 5 erased symbols out of 8 transmitted symbols. One embodiment reduces or minimizes the sector interference on the flash assignment by improving or maximizing orthogonality between different sectors. In addition, one embodiment describes improved ways of swapping flash assignment tone-symbols in the presence other high priority signals, like sector pilots and sector null pilots.

Abstract: A radio base station allocates, when performing a real-time Internet-protocol data communication, up-link radio resources, based on basic information of transmission data, so that the transmission data is transmitted in synchronization with a codec cycle of a mobile communication terminal in a concentrated manner, and notifies a result of allocating the up-link radio resources to the mobile communication terminal as an up-transmission schedule. A mobile communication terminal controls transmission of a radio frame based on the up-transmission schedule.

Abstract: A rake reception apparatus for determining whether a paging channel is received in a mobile terminal using a Discontinuous Reception (DRX) mode. A searcher searches for a multi-path signal using a received signal output from a Radio Frequency (RF) part, and calculates an energy value for each hypothesis. A demodulator demodulates a Paging Indicator (PI) for a hypothesis for which an energy value calculated by the searcher exceeds a valid path threshold. A controller determines whether a paging channel is received, according to the demodulated signal output from the demodulator, and performs finger allocation using a multi-path search of the searcher if it is determined that the paging channel is transmitted.

Abstract: A computer-readable recording medium storing a data communication program capable of transmitting desired data quickly. The mobile terminal (computer) has the following functions: A data accumulating section accumulates accumulation data to be uploaded to a server 7. A transmission data-generating section generates transmission data that is to be transmitted to the server for making the inquiry and has the accumulation data added thereto. A determination section determines whether or not the mobile terminal is in a state in which the transmission data can be transmitted to the server. A communication scheduler permits a data communication section to transmit the transmission data to the server based on the result of determination of the determination section. The data communication section transmits the transmission data to the server in response to permission of the communication scheduler.
