Abstract: A voltage-controlled oscillator has a tuned circuit for controlling the oscillation frequency. The tuned circuit has a variable-capacitance element whose capacitance varies in response to a control voltage and a negative capacitance circuit whose impedance frequency characteristics have opposite characteristics to those of a normal capacitance, and which is connected to the variable-capacitance element. The configuration enables increasing the variation ratio corresponding to the control voltage of the combined capacitance composed of the variable-capacitance element and negative capacitance circuit, thereby broadening the oscillation frequency band.

Abstract: Techniques for reducing interference among transceivers are disclosed. A transistor generates a radio frequency transmit signal in response to a generated pulse. The pulse is generated when transitions are detected in a clock signal. The clock signal is produced by an oscillator block which includes a ceramic resonator configured as a clock source. When interference is detected, the pulse applied to the transistor is varied. The frequency of the transmit signal is optionally modulated by varying the temperature of a resonator element. To vary this temperature, the current flowing through one or more resistive elements positioned in proximity of the resonator element is varied according to a control signal. As the level of this current flow varies, the amount of heat emitted by the resistive elements varies, thereby changing the temperature of the resonator element which has a relatively high temperature sensitivity.

Remote management Portal software resides on host computer servers, which are in turn accessed and managed by user members through a common browser interface via the Internet or a wireless communication network via a wireless mobile device. The remote host portal software provides a variety of robust options for the user of the local access point, to program multiple access codes with varying conditions of time, date and use occurrence limitations. Additionally, the host software provides information, distributes codes, tracks and reports usage events at the respective local access points. The host interfaces with each unique local electronic locking mechanism at the respective local access location either via a web enabled device or a common PC based Internet browser or wireless mobile device.

Abstract: A system for using a watermark embedded in an audio signal to remotely control a device. Various devices such as toys, computers, and appliances, equipped with an appropriate detector, detect the hidden signals, which can trigger an action, or change a state of the device. The watermarks can be used with a “time gate” device, where detection of the watermark opens a time interval within which a user is allowed to perform an action, such as pressing a button, typing in an answer, turning a key in a lock, etc.

Abstract: A method of unauthorized access prevention to a restricted object and a biometric security identification system are disclosed. The method comprises steps of sending a restricted object identification signal by its access point, approaching a portable biometric fingerprint-coding device to the access point, receiving this signal by the portable device, switching the portable device to send the biometrical fingerprint coded signal of the user to the approaching access point, verifying whether the received biometric fingerprint coded signal matches one of previously provided by authorized persons. The restricted object identification signal and the biometric fingerprint coded signal are the short-range signals acceptable to prevent them to be eavesdropped and cloned.

Abstract: A vehicle security apparatus includes an immobilizer ECU, a remote security ECU, a display, an operation unit, and a power supply control unit. The immobilizer ECU controls a drive prohibition and drive permission for an engine based on an identification signal transmitted from a key and/or a remote setting signal and a remote unsetting signal output from the remote security ECU. When a remote setting signal has been transmitted to set an immobilizer, the power supply control unit causes a power supply transition to an accessory-on state or an ignition-on state when an authorized identification signal from the key is transmitted. Thus, the remote immobilizer is enabled to be unset by the display and the operation unit.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a data collection and evaluation system that includes an active RFID tag for collecting, time-stamping, and storing vehicle sensor data. Examples of the type of data collected include door data, ignition data, oil pressure data, temperature data, speed data, global positioning data, and diagnostic and trouble code data. The system further includes an external data acquisition device, such as a mainframe computer system or a hand-held data acquisition device like an iPAQ. The external data acquisition device includes an RFID interrogator for communicating with the RFID tag, which enables the RFID tag to transmit the time-stamped data wirelessly to the external data acquisition device. The ability of the system to automatically collect and transfer data allows for the automation of fleet management processes, vehicle maintenance and repair processes, and certain security features.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the automatic determination of cable connections on a patch panel employs a reduced number of RFID antennas. A plurality of RFID antennas, each positioned so as to be in close proximity to each of a set of device ports of a patch panel, each comprises a series of resonators that correspond to the individual device ports (i.e., cable connector locations) in the set. The resonators may comprise in-line circuitry within the antennas, or other means for producing given impedance values at the cable connector locations. In operation, the power supplied to a given antenna is varied (e.g., in a step-wise fashion), so that the antenna field may be advantageously shaped to include a given subset of the device ports in the set and to exclude the others, thereby allowing the system to read individual RFID tags (connected to particular device ports) selectively.
