Abstract: A method of and system for identifying a consumer product in a retail store environment when a bar code symbol on a product is not readable or has been removed from the product's packaging. The system comprises a database system, and a digital image capturing and processing system installed in the retail environment and in data communication with the database system. The digital image capturing and processing system is capable of capturing one or more digital images for each consumer product sold in the retail store environment, and storing the digital images in the database subsystem, along with product identifying information for each consumer product. When the imaged bar code symbol happens to be unreadable, or when the bar code symbol label happens to have fallen off or have been removed from the packaging, then one or more digital images of the consumer product are compared with digital images stored in the database subsystem to identify the consumer product graphically represented in the digital images.

Abstract: A tag with features to enable its authenticity to be determined includes a hidden code intermixed with a visible pattern such that the hidden code is not readily detectable under ambient light condition, without the use of a specially designed reader. In one embodiment the tag is formed with a first layer containing a hidden code, formed of reflective elements, which overlies a second layer which is designed to absorb light having a predetermined wavelength (e.g., IR light). The hidden code can be detected by projecting a light source having the predetermined wavelength (e.g., an IR source) at a predetermined angle on the tag and using a sensor to sense the reflection from the tag.

Abstract: HVAC devices, systems, and methods include dampers for controlling the flow of air or other gasses through an HVAC duct, often while inhibiting turbulence within the duct or pressure loss within the duct. Embodiments of such dampers may employ a two-part damper arrangement. In many embodiments, flow will travel through the middle of the damper uniformly and with a laminar flow. One or more small, relatively unobtrusive sensor (optionally being wireless) can be included for controlling operation of the damper, the sensor(s) optionally measuring the distance between damper elements, sound, air flow, or the like, with such sensor(s)/damper combination inhibiting inadvertent pressure drop and turbulence in flows through the damper. The damper elements may optionally comprise airfoil cross-sections, with alternative dampers having a resilient helical configuration that can choke down flow by inducing a vortex in the flow, allowing static pressure regain to occur within the duct system.

Abstract: A seat belt device is provided where a pretensioner moves a ball train to the distal end side of a ball guide pipe by means of gas discharged from a gas generating device, and the movement rotates the spool for winding the seat belt in a belt winding direction so as to eliminate slack of the seat belt, while imparting necessary tension to the seat belt by loading rotational resistance on the spool in a belt withdrawing direction with gas pressure exerted on the ball train. The ball stopper stops movement of the ball train before all the balls in the ball train are ejected from the ball guide pipe in a state where the ball train functions to rotate the spool in the belt winding direction.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method for the production of a coreless roll (110?) including a sheet (110) of flexible, not moist, material such as a fibrous absorbent material, produced by winding of the sheet in one direction and rolling this sheet about a winding axis perpendicular to such direction, and including a central dispensing leader forming a projection along such axis relative to at least one part of the plane of one of the sides of the roll. The method is characterized in that the leader is produced by displacing a portion of the end of the sheet (110) before winding so that one of the longitudinal edges of the sheet forms an angle (?) other than zero relative to such direction of winding, after which winding of the sheet about the axis is initiated. By preference several sheets are produced by longitudinal cutting of a wide sheet. The solution may be applied for production in particular of general wipe rolls, hand towel rolls, or toilet paper rolls.

The user pulls upward (i.e., in a direction proximal to the base) to unfurl the paper towel roll with a minimum level of resistance. The user pulls downward (i.e., in a direction distal to the base) to create resistance against the paper towel roll such that the rotation of the roll is slowed or halted to provide a user initiated perfect tear.

Abstract: A vehicle with wings and a mechanism for causing a flapping motion in wings. Each wing structure comprises a wing and a wing spar coupled to a follower via a resilient member. Each wing carrier is pivotally connected to the body and is configured to restrain lateral movement and permit rotation of the wing spar about a feathering axis. A biasing member provides torsional bias to each wing spar. A linkage, driven by an actuator, transmits cyclic motion that rotates the wing carrier about a flapping axis, which moves the follower along a follower path. A guide attached to the vehicle body lies in the path of each follower, and the follower and guide are shaped such that each wing spar has a first rotational position about its axis along a first portion of the follower path and a second rotational position along a second portion of the follower path.
