Abstract: Electrodes of a double-layer capacitor are designed so that sub-capacitors formed at each electrode are stressed substantially equally at the rated voltage of the double-layer capacitor. In an exemplary embodiment, each electrode includes a current collector and an active electrode layer, such as a layer of activated carbon. The electrodes are held apart by a porous separator, and the assembly is immersed in an electrolyte. The thicknesses of the active electrode layers differ, resulting in asymmetrical construction of the capacitor. Different thicknesses cause the sub-capacitors to have different capacitances. When voltage is applied to the double-layer capacitor, the voltage is divided unequally between the unequal sub-capacitors. Properly selected thicknesses allow the voltages at the sub-capacitors to stress equally each sub-capacitor. The rated voltage of the double-layer capacitor can then be increased without overstressing the sub-capacitors.

Abstract: To provide a method for manufacturing a piezoelectric resonator which can conduct frequency matching with high reliability when performing rough adjustment of the frequency by adjusting the shape of a piezoelectric oscillating piece before forming an electrode film, and thereby it becomes possible to avoid reduction of the yield. Etching for forming the shape of a piezoelectric oscillating piece, and etching for forming grooves are conducted simultaneously, and after forming the grooves, the shape formation of the piezoelectric oscillating piece is started again from the same depth as the groove in a state of covering the groove with a metal film, and after the shape formation, matching of frequency is conducted by etching the side surface of the piezoelectric oscillating piece in succession. By composing such a structure, it is possible to conduct rough adjustment of frequency at a low etching rate so that the frequency matching can be performed with no due difficulty and with high accuracy.

Abstract: A linear compressor and a method of producing the linear compressor which do not generate eddy currents in an inside stator of a linear motor thereof, thus preventing an eddy current loss, caused by an electrical contact between a plurality of thin metal sheets of the inside stator. The linear compressor includes a cylinder having a piston therein, a magnet arranged around the cylinder to actuate the piston, and the inside stator arranged around the cylinder to be placed inside the magnet. The inside stator has the thin metal sheets arranged in a cylindrical arrangement, and a holder which is made of a nonconductive resin material and to which the thin metal sheets are insert-molded to be held in positions thereof in the cylindrical arrangement. Due to the nonconductive holder, the thin metal sheets are prevented from being in electrical contact with each other, and the linear compressor does not generate any eddy currents in the inside stator, and prevents an eddy current loss.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the manufacture of an integrally bladed disk, especially for a turbomachine rotor. It relates more particularly to a process for manufacturing such a disk by friction welding. The manufacturing process comprises the following successive steps: arrangement of a plurality of blades (1) in the form of a ring in a mold (2) having symmetry of revolution; casting of a degradable material (3), preheated to a temperature above its melting point, onto the ring of blades (1) in the mold (2); extraction of the molded ring (10) obtained after the degradable material (3) has solidified; welding of the molded ring (10) onto a disk (4); and elimination of the degradable material (3). According to the invention, the welding is carried out by friction welding.

Abstract: Hair cutting apparatus having at least one cutting unit (2) with a stationary cutting member (3) and reciprocable movable cutting member (4) each having cooperating bearing surfaces (7,8) with cutting edges (9,10). To minimize the friction between the bearing surfaces, means (16) with visco-elastic properties are provided between the coupling element (14) and the movable cutting member (4) resulting in a small cutting gap between the bearing surfaces. During cutting of hairs the means with visco-elastic properties behave as a stiff element whereas during periods in which no hairs are cut these means behave relatively soft so that the cutting gaps between the cutting edges are closed.

A rotatable collar is mounted on the outer surface of the fixed housing, with a cutting head attached to the collar. The cutting head is configured to translate forward and backward such that the combination of the rotational movement of the collar and the translational movement of the cutting head is capable of performing complex cuts without ever moving the pipe. A number of different cutting tools (laser, plasma, etc.) may be attached to the cutting head, and a variety of different tasks may be performed including cutting completely through the entire pipe, inscribing on the pipe surface, forming through-holes along the pipe, and the like.
