  • Patent number: 7333576
Abstract: A synchronization error occurs when a DTV signal is distorted on a transmission path and this deteriorates demodulation capability. The digital demodulation device and the synchronization detecting method of the invention can correct the synchronization position when determining that a synchronization error has occurred. A controller receives a center tap coefficient, for example, from a waveform equalizer and compares the coefficient with a given center tap coefficient threshold. If the coefficient is smaller than the threshold, the controller determines that a synchronization detector has made a synchronization error and outputs a control signal. The synchronization detector receiving the control signal re-detects a sync signal included in a received signal, to detect a new correct sync signal and thus correct the synchronization error.

  • Patent number: 7333578
Abstract: An input data sequence is sampled according to a sampling clock such that a first set of samples corresponds to data values and a second set of samples corresponds to edges between the data values. The phase error between data transitions in the input sequence and the sampled edges is determined based on amplitudes of the sampled edges. The sampling clock's phase is adjusted based on the determined phase error. Typically, the phase error is proportional to an amplitude of a sampled edge. Sampled edge amplitude values are added or subtracted, according to the direction of each transition about each edge to form an error value which indicates the amount phase error.

  • Patent number: 7333579
Abstract: A robust symbol timing recovery circuit for a telephone line modem is provided. The symbol timing recovery circuit comprises a timing estimator and an interpolator. The timing estimator, which performs an operation on input samples and estimates a timing offset of a received symbol, outputs a timing offset estimated for each symbol for a first window interval, and thereafter outputs a timing offset estimated in an immediately previous window interval for the current window interval. The interpolator, which performs interpolation using the input samples, comprises a plurality of shift registers which are serially connected and output the input samples in units of a predetermined plural number of input samples, by sequentially delaying for an input sample 15 period and outputting the input samples. Since the symbol timing recovery circuit is not sensitive to clock instability and employs a stable timing offset estimating method, symbol timing can be recovered stably and reliably.

  • Patent number: 7333580
Abstract: Digital circuits and methods for designing digital circuits are presented. In an embodiment, a number of bits (B) of a bit-stream to be processed in parallel by a digital circuit is selected. A clocking rate (C) is selected for the digital circuit such that a product (P), P being equal to B times C, is equal to at least 1 gigabit per second. An initial circuit capable of serially processing the bits of the bit-stream at a data processing rate less than P is formed. This initial circuit includes a feedback loop having N+1 delays. N is a whole number greater than zero. The initial circuit is unfolded by a factor of B to form B parallel processing pipelines for the bits of the bit-stream. An N-step look-ahead network is formed to provide inputs to the B parallel processing pipelines. The unfolded circuit is retimed to achieve the selected clocking rate (C).

  • Patent number: 7333605
Abstract: An acoustic echo canceller having an adaptive filter, a step size control unit, and (optionally) a stability control unit. The adaptive filter derives an estimate of the echo in a near-end signal using a digital filter (e.g., a FIR filter) and further cancels the echo estimate from the near-end signal to provide an output signal. The step size control unit derives step sizes to be used to adjust the coefficients of the digital filter. The step sizes are determined based on the characteristics of a reference signal and the output signal and (optionally) the characteristics of the coefficients. For example, the step size is set proportional to the reference signal amplitude, inversely proportional to the output signal amplitude, and based on a difference in the coefficient power at two different time instants. The stability control unit constrains the adjustments to the coefficients to prevent instability.

The signal strength of each signal in the signal set is adjusted in accordance with the number of signal sets to obtain the necessary security level. The system operates with whatever signal quantum noise and other system noises are present while preserving security of the cryptographic system. The signal quantum noise and system noises protect both the data and the key from attackers.

  • Patent number: 7333616
Abstract: Controlling access to disseminated messages includes implementing one or more key management policies that specify how various encryption keys are maintained and in particular, when encryption keys are made inaccessible. Deleting a particular key renders inaccessible all copies of messages, known or unknown, associated with the particular key, regardless of the location of the associated messages. A message may be directly associated with a deleted key. For example, a message may be directly associated with a deleted key by having been encrypted using the deleted key. A message may also be indirectly associated with a deleted key. For example, a message may be indirectly associated with a deleted key by being encrypted with a key that in turn was encrypted using the deleted key. Any number of levels are indirection are possible and either situation makes the message unrecoverable.

  • Patent number: 7333617
Abstract: A method for establishing a common key for a group of at least three subscribers includes using a publicly known mathematical number group and a higher order element of the group g?G. In the first step, a message corresponding to Ni:=gzi mod p is sent by each subscriber to all other subscribers (Tj), (zi) being a random number chosen from the set (1, . . . , p?2) by a random number generator. In the second step, each subscriber (Ti) selects a transmission key kij:=(gzj)zi for each other subscriber (Tj) from the received message (gzj), with i?j, for transmitting their random number (zi) to the subscribers (Tj). In the third step, the common key k is calculated as k:=f(z1, z2, . . . , zn) for each subscriber Ti.

  • Patent number: 7333618
Abstract: Systems and methods for ambient noise compensation are disclosed. One example of a system includes a variable amplifier, a source sound processor, an area sound processor, and an adjustment circuit. The variable amplifier adjusts an audio input signal to generate an audio output signal with an appropriate level so that the audio output signal is audible over noise in a listening area. The source sound processor and the area sound processor may split the audio output signal and a monitoring signal into frequency bands, and may compare these signals band-by band to find differences that represent time-varying noise in the monitoring signal. These differences may be modified to account for the acoustic response of the listening area and for constant-level background noise in the listening area. The adjustment circuit controls the variable amplifier in response to these differences.

  • Patent number: 7333619
Abstract: A method and apparatus for de-noising weak bio-signals having a relatively low signal to noise ratio utilizes an iterative process of wavelet de-noising a data set comprised of a new set of frames of wavelet coefficients partially generated through a cyclic shift algorithm. The method preferably operates on a data set having 2N frames, and the iteration is performed N?1 times. The resultant wavelet coefficients are then linearly averaged and an inverse discrete wavelet transform is performed to arrive at the de-noised original signal. The method is preferably carried out in a digital processor.
