Abstract: In the PDP device, for example, two types of SF lighting patterns (A and B modes) are equally divided and arranged in spatially different regions in a field. For example, the patterns are arranged in a zigzag manner in units of pixels. At all lighting steps, existence of an absence of light-on SF which becomes a cause of false contour is permitted only in one mode. Accordingly, a generation rate of absence of light-on SF per field when the modes are combined is low, and the level of false contour can be reduced. Further, the spatial arrangement of each mode is optionally changed among the fields.

Abstract: A method and device are presented enabling communication between two or more parties. A pattern input at a first party side is identified and data indicative of the input pattern is generated. This data is used to operate an illumination process to create an illuminated pattern, indicative of the input pattern, on at least one plane exposed to at least one of said two or more party sides.

Abstract: The systems and methods of the invention relate to providing a computer device, having a display unit, with an accelerometer (or other motion sensor) to detect movement of the computer device (and/or an associated display unit) and generate movement data. An accelerometer driver may receive the generated movement data. The generated movement data may be processed and/or interpreted in order to create one or more control signals. The control signals may be sent to a display driver to control movement of one or more selected display objects on one or more display units. The control signals may control movement of selected display objects on a screen display (or between multiple screen displays) associated with the computer device.

Abstract: A compound portable computing device comprising two or more separate portable devices coupled over a hardwired or wireless link is described. The compound device includes a first portable device and a second portable device that controls the input from the keyboards of both devices for display on a common display. The first portable device contains a portion of a standard QWERTY keyboard or other type of keyboard for text entry, and the second portable computing device contains the remaining portion of the keyboard. A process within the first portable device controls input from both the first and second keyboard portions, and causes the display of characters on a display coupled to one of the portable devices. The process functionally links the keypads of both devices such that when used together, the two keyboard portions form a full QWERTY keyboard or other type of keyboard.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device includes a reduced QWERTY keyboard and is enabled with disambiguation software. The device provides output in the form of a default output and a number of variants. The output is based largely upon the frequency, i.e., the likelihood that a user intended a particular output, but various features of the device provide additional variants that are not based solely on frequency and rather are provided by various logic structures resident on the device. The device enables editing during text entry and also provides a learning function that allows the disambiguation function to adapt to provide a customized experience for the user. The disambiguation function can be selectively disabled and an alternate keystroke interpretation system provided.
