Publication number: 20080049342Abstract: A balanced radiation concentrating device used to focus radiation from a moving source onto a stationary receiver is disclosed. The primary application of such an invention relates to concentrating the radiation from the sun onto a stationary target. In such an application the device may be termed a “ganged heliostat”, which is an array of mirrors controlled by a common positioning mechanism such that each mirror reflects light from the sun onto a stationary target. The design of the device is greatly simplified in comparison to ganged heliostats of the prior art. One major improvement included in the present invention as compared to devices of the prior art is the balancing feature.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventor: David Timothy Dobney

Publication number: 20080049365Abstract: An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection circuit uses two N-channel field effect transistors (NFETs) to conduct ESD current from a first to a second supply node. During the ESD event, an ESD detection circuit couples the gates of both NFETs to the first supply node through separate conductive paths. In one novel aspect, an RC trigger circuit includes a capacitance that is charged through a resistance. The resistance involves a P-channel transistor whose gate is coupled to the gate of the second NFET. During a normal power-up condition, the P-channel transistor is conductive, thereby preventing the RC trigger from triggering if the supply voltage VDD were to rise rapidly. In another novel aspect, a novel level-shifting inverter drives the second NFET. The level-shifting inverter uses a pull down resistor to avoid snap-back and also isolates the gate of the second NFET from a capacitively loaded third supply node.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Eugene Worley, Vivek Mohan, Reza Jalilizeinali

Publication number: 20080049372Abstract: A base system generates a three-dimensional magnetic flux field using, for example, a uniquely shaped magnetic material and winding arrangements that generate multi-frequency multi-directional fields such that their vector sum is the resultant of a power transference surface that sweeps three-dimensionally within the designated area. When a floating coil or winding arrangement together with the appropriate circuitry is placed in the vicinity of the field, the coupling and induction effect produces a current that flows in the conductor that forms the coil. Power can then be successfully transferred bounded by the resultant field regardless of its orientation or height. With the proliferation of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology in the Switched-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) area, the electromagnetic fields can be controlled independently and therefore adaptive control becomes more feasible. This increases the benefits of three-dimensional magnetic flux generation.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Applicant: Bio Aim Technologies Holding Ltd.Inventor: Siew Ling Loke

Publication number: 20080049384Abstract: A cooling device is disclosed for an electrical operating means, which has a surface to be cooled. The cooling device comprises a coolant, a peripheral wall, whose interior defines a volume for the coolant, a fastening for fastening the cooling device to the electrical operating means, and a contact-pressure means. The peripheral wall has a thermally conductive contact wall with a contact face, which is designed for areal contact with the surface to be cooled. The contact-pressure means mechanically prestresses the contact wall in order to produce an areal contact pressure of the contact face against the surface to be cooled when the cooling device is fastened to the electrical operating means.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 17, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Applicant: ABB Research LtdInventors: Peter Unternaehrer, Martin Lakner, Jean-Claude Mauroux, Daniel Chartouni, Tilo Buhler, David Just

Publication number: 20080049385Abstract: An apparatus and method to automatically secure a chassis to a rackmount rail. The apparatus includes a pin operably attached to a chassis and an aperture disposed within a rackmount rail to receive the pin. The pin is attached to the chassis such that the pin automatically protrudes from the chassis upon inserting a component into the chassis. The aperture automatically receives the pin to secure the chassis. Removing the component from the chassis automatically disengages the pin from the aperture to release the chassis.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 25, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Aaron Roger Cox, Michael Allen Curnalia

Publication number: 20080049388Abstract: Thermal control through a channel structure is disclosed. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes devices operable at an undesired temperature relative to a desired operating temperature, a vented cover of each of devices, and a channel structure formed along a side face of each of the devices, the channel structure having any number of ridges to transfer a gas between the vented cover and an external location to the apparatus. The gas may modify an operating state of the devices from the undesired temperature to the desired operating temperature. A heat structure coupled to the vented cover and the side face may absorb a portion of an energy dissipated by at least one of the devices. A printed circuit board may be formed along an opposite face relative to the vented cover to enable the gas to escape to the external location through a cavity of the apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 27, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Gregory Shogan, John Maynard Dunham
