Publication number: 20080051096Abstract: Disclosed is a method of controlling a transmit power constraint at a mobile station using a pilot power ratio (PPR) or other measurement of relative received powers (or signal strengths) between a neighbor cell transmission and a serving cell transmission such that other-cell interference produced by the mobile station may be managed. The transmit power constraint may, for example, correspond to a total or per sub-carrier maximum allowable mobile station transmit power. The transmit power constraint may be decreased if an adjacent neighbor cell, or an adjacent neighbor cell with a strongest pilot signal strength at the mobile station, is interference overloaded, i.e., interference levels in the adjacent neighbor cell is above a threshold interference level. Such decrease may be based on a pilot power ratio between a received pilot power of the overloaded adjacent neighbor cell at the mobile station and a received pilot power of the serving cell at the mobile station.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventor: Anil M. Publication number: 20080051102Abstract: A first portable terminal receives a GPS signal transmitted from a satellite via radio waves with a signal reception means, and a short distance wireless communication means transfers this received signal to a second portable terminal. Furthermore, upon receipt of this signal transferred from the first portable terminal, the second portable terminal processes the received signal with a position measurement means, and thereby measures the position of the first portable terminal. Since the communication between the first portable terminal and the second portable terminal is by short distance wireless communication, accordingly these two portable terminals are positioned approximately at the same location. And a position measurement result notification means of the second portable terminal notifies its own position, which the position measurement means has acquired, to the first portable terminal.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Applicant: FUNAI ELECTRIC CO., LTD.Inventor: Hiroki MATSUBARA

Publication number: 20080051125Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention uses estimates of delay spreads of transmissions from user equipments (UEs) to a NodeB to determine a set of transmission parameters for the UEs reference signals. In an exemplary embodiment, the transmission parameters for reference signals include cyclic shifts. Thus, embodiments include a set of allocated cyclic shift values that are tailored to the delay spreads. The set of allocated cyclic shift values are used by a corresponding set of UE being served by a NodeB to form references signals. Each UE uses the allocated cyclic shift to form its reference signal by applying the cyclic shift to a modified reference sequence. The modified reference sequence can be generated from a Constant-Amplitude-Zero-Auto Correlation (CAZAC) sequence. The set of allocated cyclic shift values can be updated periodically to account for changes of delay spreads, which can be caused by physical movements of the set of UEs.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Tarik Muharemovic, Aris Papasakellariou

Publication number: 20080051126Abstract: Disclosed is a method of setting reverse link traffic and pilot transmit powers in a wireless communications system based on traffic channel activity in order to lower average total transmit power on the reverse link and optimize reverse link capacity. As traffic channel activity decreases, the traffic transmit power relative to the pilot transmit power, i.e., traffic-to-pilot ratio (TPR), should increase. Increasing TPR will produce lower pilot transmit powers and higher traffic transmit powers. Although higher traffic transmit powers are undesirable, the effect on average total transmit power is lessen because the traffic channel is not active all the time. By contrast, the pilot channel is always active and, thus, it is desirable to sacrifice some performance of channel estimation in order to lower average total transmit power.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 22, 2006Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventors: Shirish Nagaraj, Anil M. Publication number: 20080051138Abstract: A cellular telephone system, including a cellular telephone transceiver unit, an ear piece which receives the voice vibrations of a user, and a wireless linkage operatively connecting the ear piece to the cellular telephone transceiver unit, allows a user to be in a hands-free mode when using a cellular telephone. The cellular telephone transceiver unit includes a personal digital assistant and a pager with a vibration module. The ear piece generally uses a bone sensor along with an air sensor placed in the external auditory canal of the user to detect the voice vibrations of the user. Further, a speaker is included in the ear piece to allow the user to hear incoming data from the cellular telephone transceiver. The wireless linkage uses low power radio frequency waves to send and receive signals between the ear piece and the cellular telephone transceiver unit. Both the ear piece and the cellular telephone transceiver unit require power which is supplied by batteries.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2007Publication date: February 28, 2008Inventor: PETER BOESEN
