  • Patent number: 7415016
Abstract: A method and system is provided in which MAN traffic is segregated at a customer and a provider domain level. A switch at the edge of the MAN encapsulates a data packet in a new header, which is used to specify the customer domain tags. The data packet is encapsulated further in another new header, which is used to specify new VMAN tags. The nested encapsulation is repeated as necessary until the data packet is forwarded to a remote switch at the edge of the MAN in accordance with the VMAN configuration or the source and destination address in the original data packet. The remote switch strips the VMAN tags from the data packet, and forwards the stripped data packet to the receiving customer domain as specified in the customer domain tag.

  • Patent number: 7415021
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that facilitates moving an original method from a source class to a destination class and for constructing a corresponding forwarding method in the source class that preserves null semantics. During operation, the system translates the original method from the source class into a corresponding moved method, and then incorporates the moved method into the destination class. The system also constructs a forwarding method that invokes the moved method in the destination class. The system then replaces the original method in the source class with the forwarding method. In this way, invoking the forwarding method in the source class causes the moved method to be invoked in the destination class. While constructing the forwarding method, the system generates code that checks whether a “source parameter” of the original method whose class matches the destination class is null. If so, the generated code executes the body of the original method.

  • Patent number: 7415047
Abstract: Methods for determining multiplex patterns are provided. More particularly, a multidimensional data structure is used to store multiplex patterns and indexes used to access individual ones of those patterns based on audio channel selection, audio frame size, and what other media channels have frames pending. For example, when using a single audio channel, a two-dimensional look-up table maybe used to store multiplex patterns wherein one index is the audio frame size and the other index is an encoded value formed from bits representing whether any frames are pending for other corresponding media channels.

  • Patent number: 7415048
Abstract: An alignment logic together with an MFI extractor are adapted to compensate for differential delays. The MFI extractor extracts the MFI disposed in the path overhead of each constituent time-slot. The alignment logic uses the extracted MFI to align corresponding data words (i.e., data words that are transmitted during the same time period) at the receiving end of virtually concatenated channels and that occupy different time-slots of the same channel. To perform alignment, the alignment logic stores each data word in a RAM location that is defined by an associated MFI. The data words so stored are aligned when read sequentially from their stored locations. The synchronization logic in the alignment logic synchronizes all the constituent time-slots.

  • Patent number: 7415049
Abstract: An external cavity laser has a mirror-based resonant tunable filter, such as a Fabry Perot tunable filter or Gires-Tournois interferometer tuning element, with the tunable filter being preferably used as a laser cavity mirror. A mirror-based resonant tunable filter is selected in which the spectral response in reflection has an angular dependence. A tilt scheme is used whereby by selecting an appropriate angle between the filter's nominal optical axis and the cavity optical axis, a narrowband peak spectral reflection is provided to the laser cavity. This tunable narrowband spectral reflection from the filter is used to lock and tune the laser output wavelength.

  • Patent number: 7415050
Abstract: Output optical energy pulses including relatively high energy magnitudes at the beginning of each pulse are disclosed. As a result of the relatively high energy magnitudes which lead each pulse, the leading edge of each pulse includes a relatively large slope. This slope is preferably greater than or equal to 5. Additionally, the full-width half-max value of the output optical energy distributions are between 0.025 and 250 microseconds and, more preferably, are about 70 microseconds. A flashlamp is used to drive the laser system, and a current is used to drive the flashlamp. A flashlamp current generating circuit includes a solid core inductor which has an inductance of 50 microhenries and a capacitor which has a capacitance of 50 microfarads.

  • Patent number: 7415055
Abstract: Vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) and methods of making the same are described. The VCSELs include reliability-enhancing layers that perform specific functions at one or more critical locations within a VCSEL structure to reduce or prevent defect formation and migration that otherwise might degrade VCSEL performance, for example, by increasing optical absorption in the mirror stacks or by degrading the electro-optic properties of the active region. In particular, the reliability-enhancing layers are configured to perform one or more of the following functions within the VCSEL structure: gettering (i.e., removing defects or impurities from critical regions), strain balancing (i.e., compensating the lattice mismatch in the structure to minimize strain), and defect suppression (i.e., creating alloys that reduce the formation of defects during growth or post-growth activities).
