  • Patent number: 7440440
Abstract: A method for call parking in a network telephony system is disclosed. A first user agent and a second user agent establish a communication session, and the second user agent enters a call park number to initiate a call park of the communication session. Subsequently, the call park number and the location of the second user agent are sent to a server, which authorizes the second user agent for call parking. The server then registers the call park number, and the communication session between the first and second user agents is parked. When a third user agent wants to pick up the communication session, the third user agent calls the server by entering the call park number. The server then routes the third user agent to the second user agent, which in turn refers the third user agent to the first user agent. The first and third user agents then establish their own communication session, the communication session between the first and second user agents is terminated, and the call park number is deregistered.

  • Patent number: 7440458
Abstract: A system and method for determining route quality in a network in which multiple routes exist between a transmitting end-point and a receiving end-point. Initially, a routing sequence number is associated with each transmission sent on a route in the network, such that consecutive transmissions sent on one of the routes have consecutive routing sequence numbers. The routing sequence number for a first one of the routes is included in transmissions sent on a second one of the routes. The routing sequence number of the first route, received on the second route, is used as an indicator of the route quality of the first route, and this indicator is compared to an expected routing sequence number for the first route to determine a likelihood of whether the transmissions sent via the first route are either lost or delayed. The expected routing sequence number is normally incremented each time a transmission is received on the second route.

  • Patent number: 7440466
Abstract: Nodes on a wide area network (“WAN”) such as the Internet may communicate with multiple Internet Protocol Version 6 (“IPv6”) nodes on a private network despite the lack of domain name service (“DNS”) server support. The nodes on the private network may obtain router advertisements and utilize this information to generate IPv6 addresses (6-to-4 addresses). A detection process may detect these IPv6 addresses and create web pages including these addresses. When the nodes on the WAN attempt to reach the private nodes using an address of the gateway separating the WAN from the private network, the nodes may instead reach the web pages created by the detection process. These web pages may redirect the nodes to communicate with each of the private nodes using their respective IPv6 addresses.

  • Patent number: 7440472
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing a WLAN-BTS gateway are disclosed. A handset registers with a WLAN-BTS gateway. The handset then initiates a call by initiating layer 3 air interface signaling with a BTS. The gateway forwards the layer 3 air interface signaling between the gateway and the handset. The gateway learns the control channel and traffic channel allocated to the call, either directly from the layer 3 signaling or from a separate message received from the handset. Once the call is connected, the gateway listens on the traffic channel and forwards voice packets between the handset and the BTS. Communications with the BTS occur over the allocated traffic channel. Communications with the handset occur over a WLAN.

  • Patent number: 7440474
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the synchronization of clock frequencies across packet data networks. In particular, one or more communication endpoints may produce a clock signal that is synchronized to a master clock source. Synchronization is performed by providing timing packets containing information regarding a number of clock cycles counted on the master clock source to a controlled clock source. The controlled clock source uses the provided count to increment a counter value. At the same time, the counter value on the controlled clock source is decremented by the controlled clock source clock. The resulting counter value is used to address a correction table. A correction value from the correction table is applied to the frequency control input of the controlled clock source clock.

  • Patent number: 7440480
Abstract: A method is described to improve and produce purer Cr4+-doped laser materials and lasers with reduced co-incorporation of chromium in any other valence states, such as Cr3+, Cr2+, Cr5+, and Cr6+. The method includes: 1) certain crystals of olivine structure with large cation (Ca) in octahedral sites such as Cr4+:Ca2GeO4, Cr4+:Ca2SiO4, Cr4+:Ca2GexSi1-xO4 (where 0<x<1), and/or 2) high-temperature solution growth techniques that enable the growth of the crystals below the temperature of polymorphic transitions by using low melting point solvent based on oxide, fluoride and/or chloride compounds. Purer Cr4+-doped laser materials are characterized by a relatively high concentration of Cr4+-lasing ion in crystalline host that makes these materials suitable for compact high power (thin disk/wedge) NIR laser applications.

  • Patent number: 7440483
Abstract: The invention provides a cascaded injection resonator for coherent beam combining of laser arrays. The resonator comprises a plurality of laser emitters arranged along at least one plane and a beam sampler for reflecting at least a portion of each laser beam that impinges on the beam sampler, the portion of each laser beam from one of the laser emitters being reflected back to another one of the laser emitters to cause a beam to be generated from the other one of the laser emitters to the beam reflector. The beam sampler also transmits a portion of each laser beam to produce a laser output beam such that a plurality of laser output beams of the same frequency are produced. An injection laser beam is directed to a first laser emitter to begin a process of generating and reflecting a laser beam from one laser emitter to another laser emitter in the plurality. A method of practicing the invention is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7440484
Abstract: A frequency hopping system such as a Bluetooth system (300) can reduce the number of RF channels it hops during a normal hopping sequence cycle providing for a Reduced Hopping Sequence (RHS). A communication unit operating in the system such as the Bluetooth master unit (302) determines if any of the RF channels has interference. If any of the channels has interference, the Bluetooth master sends a message to one or more slave units (304, 306) informing them of which channels will be removed from the hopping sequence due to potential interference problems. The units will then use the new RHS for their transmissions, thus avoiding the interference problems (e.g., both avoiding interference in the system's receivers and avoiding creating interference on frequencies that are already occupied by other neighboring systems).

  • Patent number: 7440486
Abstract: A spread spectrum noise shaper uses a modulation technique to achieve a greater signal-to-noise or signal-to-interference ratio (SNR or SIR). The technique doubles the system SIR, in principle. This doubling yields a doubling in system capacity. SNR is increased by receiving the spread spectrum signal in the presence of less noise near the edge of the spread spectrum bandwidth. The technique requires only small additions to a conventional spread spectrum system, in the form of an extra modulator at the transmitter, and an extra demodulator and filter at the receiver.

  • Patent number: 7440489
Abstract: A spread spectrum signal is processed by correlating the spread spectrum signal with a spreading sequence at a first plurality of correlation times to produce a first plurality of time-offset correlations. The first plurality of time-offset correlations is processed to produce a first symbol representation for a symbol. A first quality is determined for the first symbol representation. Responsive to the determined first quality, it is determined whether to further process the first symbol representation or to process a second symbol representation for the symbol generated from the spread spectrum signal. The first quality may be determined, for example, by decoding the first symbol representations to generate a decoding metric or error check indicator, such as a CRC result. The symbol representations may be generated and/or evaluated for quality in a serial fashion or a parallel fashion.
