Abstract: When a liquid mixture of two samples such as biological samples labeled with stable isotopes is subjected to a relative quantitative analysis using a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry system, various constituents are simultaneously ionized. Accordingly, sufficient time required for second mass spectrometry is not ensured, whereby some ions remain unanalyzed after measurement. To address this problem, after second mass spectrometry, amino acid sequencing is performed using the analysis data of the second mass spectrometry, which enables determination on the presence/absence of a specific amino acid labeled with a stable isotope. When the specific amino acid is present, the m/z value of an isotopically-labeled-paired ion in an MS spectrum is calculated, and non-target information for use in second mass spectrometry is created using the calculated m/z information.

Abstract: The present invention provides a mass spectrometer having an ion lens capable of transporting an ion having a large mass to charge ratio with a high level of ion-passing efficiency even under a low-vacuum atmosphere. In conventional atmospheric pressure ionization mass spectrometers or similar mass spectrometers, applying an excessively high voltage to the ion lens undesirably causes an electric discharge. Therefore, the passing efficiency for an ion having a large mass to charge ratio cannot be adequately improved, which leads to a poor detection sensitivity. To solve this problem, the mass spectrometer according to the present invention includes a voltage controller 21 that controls a variable radiofrequency (RF) voltage generator 24 so that both the amplitude and the frequency of the RF voltage applied to the lens electrodes of an ion lens 5 are changed according to the mass to charge ratio of an ion to be analyzed.

Abstract: As sample sizes have decreased to microscopic levels, it has become desirable to establish a method for thin film processing and observation with a high level of positional accuracy, especially for materials which are vulnerable to electron beam irradiation. The technological problem is to judge a point at which to end FIB processing and perform control so that the portion to be observed ends up in a central portion of the thin film. The present invention enables display of structure in cross-section by setting a strip-like processing region in an inclined portion of a sample cross-section and enlarging the display of the strip-like processing region on a processing monitor in a short-side direction. It is then possible to check the cross-sectional structure without additional use of an electron beam. Since it is possible to check the processed section without using an electron beam, electron beam-generated damage or deformation to the processed section is avoided.

Abstract: The field of the invention is that of the detection of high frequency electromagnetic waves. The invention can be applied to a very wide range of bandwidths, but the preferred field of application is the terahertz frequency domain. The core of the detection device involves a so-called active material with an absorption coefficient in the optical domain that depends on the intensity of the terahertz signal to be detected. By measuring the variations of the absorption coefficient by means of an optical probe, the intensity of the terahertz signal is thus determined. By this means, a frequency translation is performed in a frequency domain where the measurement no longer poses technical problems. It is notably possible to improve the sensitivity of the detector by having antennas suited to the active medium, by using semiconductor or quantum well materials.

Abstract: An apparatus for simultaneous parallel processing of a sample using light energy for optical viewing or surface processing in parallel with a charged particle beam. A charged particle beam transmits a focused ion beam or an electron beam along a path to a sample. An optical microscope transmits light along a first path to the sample, and a prism aligned along the first light path reflects light into a second light path toward the sample. A portion of the prism and reflective surface is removed for passage of the charged particle beam. A lens is aligned along the second light path and has a portion removed for passage of the charged particle beam. The removed portions of the prism and lens are aligned along the charged particle beam path to permit parallel delivery of the charged particle beam and the light to substantially the same portion of the sample.

Abstract: The apparatus for ion beam fabrication, which has been able to detect any anomalous condition of ion beams only by means of the current irradiated on the specimen, could not compensate the failure by investigating the cause and could not realize stable processing. To solve the problem described above, the present invention includes the first and second blankers and Faraday cups switches ON and OFF the first and second blankers and monitors beam current at two positions above and below the projection mask. By adopting this configuration, it will be possible to acquire the information on failure in ion beam, sort out the cause of the failure and to compensate the failure while limiting damages to the projection mask. As a result, it will be possible to realize stable processing by means of ion beam, and to use the ion beam fabricating device on a stable basis.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a device for generating flows of gas for filtering the radiation emitted in plasma-based radiation sources. It is the object of the invention to find a novel possibility for generating a gas curtain in the immediate vicinity of a radiating plasma so as to permit a simple arrangement and design and a long life of the device for generating the gas curtain under extreme thermal stress. According to the invention, this object is met in that a slit nozzle is formed of a plurality of partial bodies comprising different materials to form a supersonic nozzle profile for the generation of a broad gas curtain in order to accommodate the slit nozzle to different thermal and precision-mechanical requirements in the gas inlet region and in the gas outlet region.

Abstract: A camera arrangement includes a camera, a light source, and a light-guide which are in an inside region separated from an outside region by a window. The camera and the light source are pointed at the window. The light-guide is between the camera and the window and between the light source and the window. The light-guide couples light incident to the window from the outside region towards a portion of the camera. The light-guide couples light from the light source into the window which is reflected at the interface between the window and the outside region and couples the reflected light towards another portion of the camera. The camera records an image indicative of the incident light from the outside region through the light-guide and records an intensity of the reflected light from the light source through the light-guide.

Abstract: This industrial patent has as purpose to facilitate the installation and/or removal process of equipments when these are in an exit of piping 6. The sealing device for piping exits including a device 1 that contains in its interior a valve 2 that will make the interruption of the flow contained in the piping 6 when there is not equipment 7 installed in the device 1. Therefore, the spring 5 pulls the head sealing 4. When the equipment 7 is settled in the device 1, it pushes the flange 3 that moves the sealing head 4, allowing the course of flow of the piping 6. The building of the automatic sealing device of piping exits (ASD) can be made with any material type, as well as in several geometric forms to guarantee the perfect sealing, as well as to assist the request of the fluid and gases type that passes thought the piping 6. In places where already has exit connections, it can be used only the element of sealing 2, introducing it in the existent connection.
