  • Patent number: 7471681
Abstract: In one embodiment, a protocol option is implemented in which a network packet stores a maximum transmission unit size to use for sending data on a path between a sender and a recipient. The stored value is replaced if a receiver of the network packet uses a maximum transmission unit (MTU) smaller than the stored value. The option may be used in an initiation packet sent during a communication initiation handshake to allow both establishment of a communication session as well as determination of an efficient transmission unit size. The initiation packet may be sent with a do-not-fragment option set so that if a receiver does not understand the option, and the packet is too large for the receiver, then receiver will reject the packet and place the sender on notice that a conventional trial-and-error approach is required to determine an allowable MTU.

  • Patent number: 7471684
Abstract: A method and system for preventing address resolution protocol (ARP) cache poisoning in a network system with multiple hosts. Multiple hosts representing and/or located in separate local area networks (LANS) are tapped (via a shared agreement) to utilize a trusted ARP cache for each LAN represented. Whenever a new ARP response is detected in one network, a request for validation is sent to a separate host in a different network. The separate host initiates a verification process for the ARP, which involves checking whether duplication of one of the IP address or MAC address of the ARP response exists within the address pairings in the ARP cache. If the ARP response is not validated, then the trusted ARP cache is not updated and the system administrator is notified of the failed attempt.

  • Patent number: 7471691
Abstract: A switch, switched architecture and process for transferring data through an FCAL switch is disclosed. The switch uses multiple switch control circuits each coupled to one FCAL network and all connected to a crossbar switch. The switch control circuits are coupled together by a protocol bus for coordination purposes. Local conversations can occur on each FCAL loop and crossing conversations through the switch can occur concurrently. The OPN primitive is used to establish the connection before any data is transferred thereby eliminating the need for buffer memory in the switch control circuits. The destination address of each OPN is used to address a lookup table in each switch control circuit to determine if the destination node is local. If not, the destination is looked up and a connection request made on the protocol bus. If the remote port is not busy, it sends a reply which causes both ports to establish a data path through the backplane crossbar switch.

  • Patent number: 7471692
Abstract: An apparatus and method for maximizing call connect rate in a remote access application. The method uses an adjustable hunting algorithm for allocating calls to channels to be connected. The method described categorizes the channels based on their past performances into groups that are preferred to be used. The results of the channels performances are accumulated and saved in order to decide which channels are to be used more often than others. The channels that perform the worst will be used sparingly, thus reducing the possibility that they may be locked out. This gives the PSTN switch the most optimal number of channels to choose from since the least number of channels will be locked out. Since the best performing channels will be used most often, the system will have maximized its overall connect rate. The channels will constantly be monitored in order to guarantee that the next most effective available channel will be used for all incoming calls.

  • Patent number: 7471699
Abstract: In a network including an optical link transporting packet streams of successive optical packets separated by voids, the station includes a transmission device (13) coupled to the link at an insertion point in order to inject optical packets into the link. At a detection point on the link, upstream of the insertion point, a detection device (11) observes the packet streams transported to this detection point. As a function of this observation each packet awaiting transmission and transmitted by the transmission device (13) causes the formation at the insertion point of a downstream packet stream containing the transmitted packet interposed between first and second packets delimiting a void of the upstream stream. The detection device (11) forms a transmission control signal (ACK) such that in the event of transmission as a function of this control signal, any transmitted packet is attached to at least one of the first and second packets.

  • Patent number: 7471702
Abstract: Base stations transmit strip signals using strip signal segments and self supporting modulation scheme techniques facilitating rapid channel estimate. A strip segment occupies one OFDM symbol time interval and uses a set of downlink tones; some, e.g., half, of the tones are left unused facilitating SIR measurement. The strip segments are advantageously timed to correspond to uplink access intervals in which connected wireless terminals do not typically transmit uplink signals. Connected wireless terminals including: multiple antennas used in combination, an antenna duplex module, single RF receiver chain and single RF transmitter chain, switch antenna coefficient combinations based on strip signal segment timing. The wireless terminal determines an independent downlink channel quality measurement, e.g., SNR and/or SIR for each strip signal segment and for on-going non-strip signaling.

Abstract: A laser controlling method can generate laser of stable laser pulses, and eliminate useless time from a machining procedure. The method uses a gain medium and a Q-switch, and emits exciting light to the gain medium, thereby setting the Q-switch in a continuous oscillation mode, and prepares a given Q-switch pause time before a laser pulse is generated. When the continuous oscillation is kept going longer than a given time, the control method sets a Q-switch pause time for obtaining a first laser pulse to be different from a Q-switch pause time for obtaining a second laser pulse and onward.

  • Patent number: 7471711
Abstract: A semiconductor light emitting device including an active layer interposed between an n-type cladding layer and a p-type cladding layer employs an AlxGa1-xN (AlGaN) layer having an Al composition ratio x satisfying 0.01?x<0.06 as the n-type cladding layer. As the Al composition ratio x decreases below 0.06, the AlGaN layer increases in refractive index. Thus, the near field pattern (NFP) in the vertical direction can spread out, and full width at half maximum of FFP in the vertical direction can be minimized. Further, since lattice mismatch with a GaN substrate is reduced with decreasing Al composition ratio, the AlGaN layer can be thick without causing cracks or dislocations, and spreading of light into the GaN substrate can be minimized.
