  • Publication number: 20090151388
Abstract: A heating and/or cooling system which incorporates one or more modular dedicated heat recovery refrigeration units each of which includes at least one compressor, an evaporator and a condenser. The system captures and utilizes condenser circuit heat which would otherwise be wasted. A variable speed circulating water pump circulates water through each evaporator/condenser, which are connected in parallel across the respective supply line and return line. A master controller activates and deactivates individual compressors in accordance with load demand. Shut-off valves close off the water flow through the respective evaporator and/or condenser of any units deactivated and the resulting changes in the pressure differential in the supply and return lines is sensed by sensor which sends a signal to the pump motor speed controller which changes the output of the pump to restore a predetermined pressure differential.

Abstract: A liquid gas vaporization and measurement system, and associated method, for efficiently vaporizing a continuous sample of liquid gas, such as liquid natural gas (LNG), and accurately determining the constituent components of the gas. A constant flow of liquid gas sampled from a mass storage device is maintained in a vaporizing device. Within the vaporizing device the liquid gas is flash vaporized within heated narrow tubing. The liquid gas is converted to vapor very quickly as it enters one or more independently operating vaporizer stages within the vaporizing device. The vapor gas is provided to a measuring instrument such as a chromatograph and the individual constituent components and the BTU value of the gas are determined to an accuracy of within +/?0.5 mole percent and 1 BTU, respectively.

Abstract: A thickness shear mode (TSM) sensor having a visco-elastic polymer coating and a fundamental frequency greater than 20 MHz useful for organic vapor or gas detection. The TSM quartz resonators at a fundamental frequency of 96 MHz were evaluated for their performance in organic vapor sensing applications and results were compared with the performance of 10 and 20 MHz resonators. These devices were produced by chemical milling of AT-cut quartz. Seven test organic vapors were utilized at concentrations ranging from 0.2 volume percent to 13.7 volume percent in the vapor phase. In all cases, the rubbery polymer polyisobutylene was used as a sensing layer. Detailed results for various sensor parameters such as sensitivity, baseline noise and drift, limit of detection, response and recovery times, dynamic range, and repeatability for the 96 MHz device were compared with those for 10 and 20 MHz devices. The test case of benzene/polyisobutylene was chosen to make these detailed comparisons.

Abstract: This is a probe that can be used to measure any curl on a stack of sheets in a sheet stacking tray. In printing systems including electrophotographic systems, sheets tend to curl on edge portions. This curl can adversely affect the final copy and copies fed to finishing stations. This probe lightly contacts the upper stack surface and detects sheet curl especially on the edge portions of the stack. The probe measures deviations of the surface as compared to a starting point defined on the terminal edge of the stack. The information provided by the probe is then fed to a user or controlled for transmission to a correcting apparatus.
