Abstract: A magnetically addressable bistable film includes a polymeric substrate impregnated with polymeric microcapsules that contain liquid-suspended magnetically orientable or magnetophoretic material. The material is subject to reorientation either in the plane or perpendicular to the plane of the film, as well to forces of attraction, due to an external magnetic field. The two states provide sufficient difference in light reflectivity to create visible contrast by addressing the film locally, either on a pixel-by-pixel basis or by spatially patterning the driving magnetic field itself. The congregation of magnetophoretic materials in one portion of the microcapsule may also provide sufficient difference in light reflectivity to create visible contrast.

The brake disk is arranged in the storage space facing opposite the friction disk and constructed not to rotate in a line reel-out direction.

Abstract: A device for collection and storage of waste monofilament line or similar materials. The device has a rotating spool mechanism in the form of an inner spool with an outer surface to which line adheres rotated by a rotation operator coupled to the spool. An outer cylinder encloses the spool mechanism. Monofilament line is passed through a window in the outer cylinder and adheres to the outer surface of the spool. The rotation operator is rotated, drawing the line into the device for storage and later disposal.

Abstract: A container for the dispensing of wire or cable has an external carton which receives a reel of cable supported by two caddies. Each caddy has an inwardly extending substantially cylindrical bushing which is received in a central hole of a respective cable reel flange. The cylindrical bushings are disposed on an axis which is a first distance from an upper surface of a bottom panel of the carton. The largest radius of the reel flanges is preselected to be smaller than this first distance such that the reel may freely rotate inside of the carton on the bushings. Cable is pulled through a slot in the carton's front panel. Left and right panels of the carton each have an arbor hole formed therein which may receive an axial rod, the rod also extending through the reel and caddies. The axial rod may be used to join two or more cartons together and may further serve as a support for attachment to a dolly, hand truck, or four-wheeled cart.

Abstract: A vertical take-off vehicle includes two thermoreactors/turbine engines having a rectangular air inlet opening into a positive-displacement rotary compressor supplying compressed air to a tank connected to (i) a combustion chamber whose exhaust gases actuate a compressor-driving turbine and discharge onto the fixed rear wing upper surface, and (ii) the combustion chamber of the main engine whose exhaust gases discharge directly onto the wing upper surface, the variable incidence of which, in take-off mode, generates a lift force adding to the forces that develop on the front wings. In take-off mode, the variable-geometry upper surfaces of the front wings have a maximum camber onto which the exhaust gases produced in an internal combustion chamber flow at great speed. In cruise mode, the combustion chamber is off and the upper surface returns to a reduced camber position as the rear wing returns to an incidence optimizing total drag and lift forces.

Abstract: An aircraft noise reduction apparatus including an aircraft landing gear assembly (10) and a noise reduction fairing (12) is described. The landing gear assembly comprises (10) a landing gear bay having an aperture (14), a landing gear moveable between a stowed position and a fully deployed position, and at least one landing gear bay door (16) moveable to close and open the aperture. The noise reduction fairing (12) is positioned fore of the landing gear bay door assembly. The noise reduction fairing (12) is moveable between a stowed position and a fully deployed position such that in the fully deployed position, the noise reduction fairing (12) acts to reduce noise that would otherwise be generated by the interaction of the landing gear assembly when deployed and the air flowing past it.

Abstract: A low noise aircraft which can reduce engine noise on the ground sharply at the time of take-off and landing by utilizing a well-known mechanism. By utilizing a thrust deflection means constituted of a well-known mechanism for making the direction of thrust variable, exhaust direction of an engine is deflected to the upper side (upward) of the course direction (flight direction) of the aircraft so that the maximum propagation direction of the engine jet exhaust noise is kept away from the ground, thus reducing the engine noise level on the ground at the time of aircraft take-off and landing. In particular, when the thrust deflection type exhaust nozzle (20) is constituted of an upper deflection nozzle (21) and a lower deflection nozzle (22), the engine can generate reverse thrust during a landing run.

Abstract: Aircraft landing gear comprised of a wheel hub motor/generator includes alternating rotors and stators mounted with respect to the wheel support and wheel. The invention in certain embodiments can provide motive force to the wheel when electrical power is applied, e.g. prior to touch-down, thus decreasing the difference in relative velocities of the tire radial velocity with that of the relative velocity of the runway and reducing the sliding friction wear of the tire. After touchdown the wheel hub motor/generator may be used as a generator thus applying a regenerative braking force and/or a motorized braking action to the wheel. The energy generated upon landing may be dissipated through a resistor and/or stored for later use in providing a source for motive power to the aircraft wheels for taxiing and ground maneuvers of the aircraft. Methods and apparatuses for nose gear steering and ABS braking using the disclosed invention are described.
