The focusing lens located further away from a work piece than the beam steering mechanism. An active beam path management system moves the simple focusing lens in concert with and relative to the beam steering mechanism to maintain a focal point coincident with a surface of the work piece at all deflection angles affected by the beam steering mechanism. The focusing lens is rapidly moveable in concert with the beam steering mechanism to maintain a constant beam path length from the lens output to the work piece at all times.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2008Publication date: April 1, 2010Applicant: ELECTRO SCIENTIFIC INDUSTRIES, INCInventors: Brian JOHANSEN, Mehmet Ermin ALPAY, Jeff HOWERTON

Publication number: 20100078420Abstract: The electric heater for tumble dryer devices, object of the present invention, does not need the large size presently required to provide high powers. Furthermore, the particular shape of the resistive member reduces the vibrations transmitted to the apparatus and therefore the noise felt by the user. The particular shape of the heater determines a lower tendency to dust deposition on the heating member and a higher safety against short circuits in case of filament breakage.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2009Publication date: April 1, 2010Inventors: Claudio Fattorel, Mirco Celot

Publication number: 20100078422Abstract: A device for heating a biological sample, the device having a heating source comprising a semiconductor chip. A sample chamber, or other medium to be heated, is positioned adjacent the heating source, wherein the sample chamber is configured to house a biological sample at a predetermined temperature. A microcontroller is electrically coupled to the semiconductor chip and a sensor positioned inside, at, or near the sample chamber. The microcontroller supplies a load current to the heating source to generate heat from the heating source, and the sensor is coupled to the microcontroller to provide feedback for controlling the heat generated by the heating source.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2008Publication date: April 1, 2010Applicant: LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL SECURITY LLCInventor: Torsten Albert Staab

Publication number: 20100078423Abstract: In a heating unit, based on a required output amount Q, a control part 50 performs: (A) when the required output amount Q is not more than a predetermined set value, a control in which none of the heating devices 24a is continuously kept on throughout a heating cycle, and all or one or more heating devices 24a are controlled in a periodically divided manner; and (B) when the required output amount is larger than the predetermined set value, a control in which all or one or more heating devices 24a are continuously kept on throughout the heating cycle, and all or one or more heating devices 24a among the remaining heating devices 24a are controlled in the periodically divided manner during this heating cycle. At this time, a difference between the maximum number and the minimum number of the heating devices 24a that are simultaneously kept on during the heating cycle is made not more than 1.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2009Publication date: April 1, 2010Applicant: Tokyo Electron LimitedInventors: Hideaki SATO, Hiromi Hara
