The generator has an elongated piston housing having a first and a second end, and a piston provided on a shaft, and the shaft penetrates the housing for transmitting the axial force to another tool. The piston is provided in the piston housing so that the shaft penetrates the piston and each end of the piston housing and divides the housing into a first and a second chamber, and the first and the second chamber are each fluidly connected to the pump via at least one duct so that the pump can pump fluid into one chamber by sucking fluid from the other chamber for moving the piston within the housing, and thereby moving the shaft back and forth.

Abstract: A modulator is disclosed for creating a pressure pulse in a fluid-filled well. The modulator comprises a tool body on which a plurality of extendable arms are mounted. The arms may be retracted into a stowed position substantially adjacent the tool body, or may be extended to meet the wall of the borehole. The arms are preferably resilient bowsprings that may be flexed outwards from the tool by means of an actuator pushing on at least one end of the springs. A flexible valve sleeve or bag is suspended between the arms and cooperates with a valve mounted adjacent the sleeve on the tool body. The valve sleeve creates a fluid-flow path through the valve, and in operation, the valve closes one end of the valve sleeve to create the pressure pulse. Sealing of the valve sleeve against the wall of the well is a result of the fluid pressure inflating the sleeve against the well wall. As a result, sealing takes place over an extended area of the bag and is dynamically responsive to changes in fluid flow or pressure.

Abstract: A downhole tool has housing components that are relatively movable. One of the components is supported downhole while a control line provides fluid pressure to move the other housing component relative to the supported component to put the tool in a first position. Loss of control line pressure allows the weight of tubulars bearing on the upper housing or rods to move it to put the tool in another position. The tubing weight overcomes the hydrostatic pressure in the control line even when there is no applied pressure in the control line to cause relative housing or rods movement to operate a tool. In that sense the tool can be fail safe to shut off flow, for example, on loss of control line pressure while reducing or elimination the need for a large return spring to offset hydrostatic pressure.

Abstract: A fluid collecting apparatus inserted in a borehole for collecting fluid in the borehole. The fluid collecting apparatus may include a first packer and a second packer which are selectively adhered to an inside of the borehole, a first supply pipe and a second supply pipe which supply expansion fluid to each of the first packer and the second packer, and a guide tube which guides fluid in a collecting space between the first packer and the second packer to an outside of the borehole. Also, the second supply pipe moves with the second packer in a longitudinal direction of the borehole, and a passage which does not communicate with the first supply pipe is formed. Accordingly, the fluid collecting apparatus may independently control the first and second packers, and thus fluid in a desired depth and region within the borehole may be easily collected.

Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system for actuating a wellbore tool includes a body having a chamber in which a movable member is disposed. The movable member may connect to a selected wellbore tool. Within the chamber is a controllable fluid that substantially prevents relative movement between the body and the movable member when exposed to an applied magnetic field. A generator applies the magnetic field to the fluid and may change the applied magnetic field in response to a first control signal to release the movable member from the body. A driver displaces the movable member relative to the body once the movable member is released from the body.
