  • Patent number: 7753014
Abstract: An improved electro-hydraulic intake and exhaust valve actuator for a “camless” internal combustion reciprocating engine. The present invention integrates an electric motor driven “plug type” rotary control valve and a single acting hydraulic cylinder in one housing for the actuation of an engine valve. The geometry of the hydraulic ports in the rotary control valve may be tailored for desired valve actuation profiles. The electronic control of the rate of rotation and angular position of the rotary control valve are used to infinitely vary the engine valve operating parameters. Thus, engine valve timing, speed, cycle duration and lift may be varied. A rotary control valve permits high speed operation and accommodates a broad range of valve sizes. Availability of a wide range of commercial open frame brushless electric motors and dedicated integrated circuit controllers contribute to the cost effectiveness of the present design.

  • Patent number: 7753016
Abstract: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes a variable valve mechanism that changes the duration of an intake valve, and a controller that controls the variable valve mechanism to change the duration based on the operating state of the internal combustion engine. If a determination that there is a possibility of engine stalling is made when the internal combustion engine idling, the controller controls the variable valve mechanism so that the duration of the intake valve is made shorter than the duration which is achieved when the determination is made, only during the period until several four-stroke cycles of the internal combustion engine have elapsed after the determination is made. Thus, it is possible to appropriately suppress occurrence of engine stalling when the internal combustion engine is running at a low speed.

  • Patent number: 7753035
Abstract: This involves diagnosing the operation of a fuel vapor purge device on an internal combustion engine. The pressure value and/or mass flow rate admitted to the air inlet manifold is determined upstream of the manifold where it communicates with the vapor recirculation pipeline, a command to open the electrically operated purge valve is issued, the engine control electronics are provided with the pressure and/or mass flow rate value determined at the start, without taking account of the mass flow rate that should have passed through the valve if it is opened, the engine reacts, according to whether or not vapors have been supplied to the manifold, and at least one operating parameter of this engine is detected, and if this parameter does not reveal any variation in the engine operation it is deduced that there is a deficiency in the opening of the valve and/or a malfunctioning of the purge device.

  • Patent number: 7753040
Abstract: A helical field device that accelerates an object to high velocity by converting rotational kinetic energy in the device into linear kinetic energy in the object, and alternatively, that decelerates objects from high velocity by converting the linear kinetic energy in the object into rotational kinetic energy in the device. The device transfers kinetic energy between the device and an object through the use of a localized high pressure field in the form of a helix having a variable pitch along the length of the device, which couples the object to the device without the pressure field itself significantly contributing energy into the system. Instead, the energy that is used to accelerate the object comes from the kinetic energy imparted to the device by an outside source, such as an engine, or a potential energy storage device.

  • Patent number: 7753042
Abstract: The tubular bolt of a paintball gun communicates with a cylinder through bores when in a forward, firing position, allowing compressed gas from the cylinder to expel a paintball. In accordance with the invention a bore whereby the cylinder communicates with a source of compressed gas is occluded by the bolt when the bolt is in the firing position. By this arrangement only gas stored in the cylinder is used to fire a paintball and the source of compressed gas is not in communication with the cylinder except when the trigger is released and the bolt is in its retracted position.

  • Patent number: 7753043
Abstract: An archery bowstring release includes a string grip for holding and releasing a bowstring, and a band for mounting the string grip about an archer's wrist or hand. The string grip may rotate about the band between an in-use position wherein the string grip is adjacent the archer's fingers, and a stowed position situated away from the archer's hand. This rotating arrangement is biased such that the string grip resists being situated in other than the in-use and stowed positions. Thus, the archer may “snap” the string grip into the in-use position when the string grip is desired for use in shooting, and may “snap” the string grip to the stowed position when the string grip is not needed. In this manner, the string grip does not interfere with use of the archer's hand when it is not in use.

  • Patent number: 7753045
Abstract: A charcoal cooking grate which is hinged to fold up to trap charcoal in a tight pile that is necessary for efficient burning. The grate folds completely over the top and lays flat to allow for three sheets of crumpled up newspaper to be placed under one side. Both sides then fold up to trap the charcoal in the middle of the grate. There are also two hinged sides which fold up to trap the charcoal. These hinged sides wrap around the grate to complete the enclosure. The charcoal can then be loaded onto the center of the cooking grate. Because you have a defined area to pour the charcoal, you get the exact amount of charcoal that is needed to use the grill. After the coals have become hot enough to cook with, then the chains can simply be pulled to release the hinged sides and the end grates to their original positions. The charcoal is automatically dispersed across the charcoal grate as the end grates are lowered back down to a flat position.
