  • Patent number: 7753100
Abstract: A variable-angle tile partition comprises tiles of any shape, material, color, or degree of translucence. In one implementation, the tile partition is constructed with a first row of decorative tiles joined to a second row of tiles using a left or right-angled tile connector. In at least one implementation, the tile partition can further include a third row of tiles joined to the second row of tiles, typically using the other of the left or right-angled tile connector. A manufacturer can continually join each next row of decorative tiles with alternating left or right-handed tile connectors. The unique tying/joining together of tile rows using left or right-angled tile connectors at least partly allows the variable partition to partition constrained spaces in a uniform and variable manner, which can be used to diffuse light or sound, or otherwise provide various aesthetic and structural needs.

  • Patent number: 7753117
Abstract: The permeability of the cement annulus surrounding a casing is measured by locating a tool inside the casing, placing a probe of the tool in contact with the cement annulus, measuring the change of pressure in the probe over time, where the change in pressure over time is a function of among other things, the initial probe pressure, the formation pressure, and the permeability, and using the measured change over time to determine an estimated permeability. The estimated permeability is useful in determining whether carbon dioxide can be effectively sequestered in the formation below or at the depth of measurement without significant leakage through the cement annulus.

  • Patent number: 7753119
Abstract: Many reservoirs of interest include heavy oil. In such reservoirs, partly at normal temperatures, many instruments commonly used for formation evaluation may not be able to distinguish between heavy oil and bound water in the formation. Passive or active heating is used to elevate the temperature of the fluids in the formation. At elevated temperatures, distinguishing between heavy oil and bound water is easier. Of particular interest is the increase in the resolvability of the transverse relaxation time T2 of NMR spin echo measurements. Additionally, the dielectric constant and the loss tangents of water and heavy oil show different temperature and frequency dependence.

  • Patent number: 7753120
Abstract: A sampling system and method for use in pipes or in boreholes beneath the earth's surface, including the use of flexible borehole liners, the liners provided with a diffusion barrier to prevent contamination of fluid samples obtained by the system and method. There is provided a flexible diffusion barrier in the construction of a flexible fluid sampling liner, so as to nearly eliminate concern for diffusion transport into or out of the liner. The flexible diffusion barrier may be incorporated into and constructed with known devices, called spacers, in use with flexible borehole liners. The diffusion barrier according to the present disclosure is attached or secured by a suitable means to the interior surface, or the exterior surface, or both surfaces, of the flexible borehole liner. In one embodiment, a spacer with a diffusion barrier prevents both the diffusion into the liner, and the diffusion out of the liner, in the interval subtended by the spacer length.

  • Patent number: 7753138
Abstract: A system for coupling a pipe segment to a pipe string is provided that includes a top drive assembly having an output shaft; and a pipe running tool coupled to the top drive assembly and rotatable by the output shaft of the top drive assembly. The pipe running tool includes an internal gripper for insertion within an internal diameter of the pipe segment and a tapered slip cone section, which slidably receives corresponding tapered surfaces of a plurality of slips, such that a vertical force on the slips causes the slips to move radially outwardly into gripping engagement with the internal diameter of the pipe segment, and wherein the vertical force applied to the slips is sufficient to allow the gripping engagement of the slips with the internal diameter of the pipe segment to transmit a torque from the top drive output shaft to the pipe segment.

Abstract: A virtual wheel provides a leg pair as a conveyance mechanism for a land vehicle. The virtual wheel propels the vehicle across a surface using a repetitive motion of the legs that contact the ground as would a wheel, due to their geometry. Vehicle embodiments include at least two-, three-, four- and six-wheeled vehicles, both transverse and in-line. Additionally, the invention provides a bipedal walking robot. One embodiment provides a robotic mule—a payload-carrying vehicle. The invention combines the flexible mobility of bipedal vehicles with the stability and functionality of very large-wheeled vehicles.
