Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method for producing a titanium-aluminium alloy containing less than about 15 wt. % aluminium. The method comprises a first step in which an amount of titanium subchlorides at or in excess of the stoichiometric amount required to produce the titanium-aluminium alloy are reduced by aluminium to form a reaction mixture comprising elemental titanium, and then a second step in which the reaction mixture comprising elemental titanium is heated to form the titanium-aluminium alloy. The reaction kinetics are controlled such that reactions resulting in the formation of titanium aluminides are minimised.

Abstract: A food slicing and weighing system produces stacks of slices of food product. Each stack has a total number of slices or a weight greater than a predetermined minimum stack weight. The food slicing and weighing line comprises a slicing unit and a weighing unit. The slicing unit has a blade for cutting slices off a log of food and a control arrangement comprising a controller for setting the thickness of the slices. The weighing unit has a surface supported by a load sensor. The surface is positioned at the location the slices are cut off the log, each slice dropping onto the surface as each slice is cut from the log. The load sensor senses the weight of the slices as each slice is dropped onto the surface and provides a signal to the controller. The controller determines from the signal a measured combined weight of a number of slices less than the total number of slices and then a target thickness for a next slice to be added to the stack of slices based on the measured combined weight.

Abstract: A separation apparatus for carbon dioxide is provided which includes an absorption unit for absorbing flue gas from a fossil-fueled power station, a desorption unit and a heat exchanger which on the primary feed side is connected via an inlet-side feedback line to the desorption unit, and on the discharge side is connected via an outlet-side feedback line to the absorption unit. On the secondary feed side, the heat exchanger is connected via an inlet-side feed line to the absorption unit, and on the discharge side is connected via an outlet-side feed line to the desorption unit. A first bypass line connects the inlet-side feedback line to the outlet-side feed line so that a mostly closed first circuit with the desorption unit is formed, and a second bypass line connects the inlet-side feed line to the outlet-side feedback line so a mostly closed second circuit with the absorption unit is formed.

Abstract: A gas separation device is disclosed. In particular, seal assemblies and adsorbent element constructions for a gas separation device such as a pressure swing adsorption device are disclosed. The seal assembly can be part of a rotary valve and can include a seal backer and a floating seal positioned within a bore in the seal backer. The floating seal is configured to press towards and seal against an adjacent rotor. Valve action is provided as apertures in the floating seal and rotor are brought into and then out of alignment as a result of relative rotation therebetween. The seal assembly can include two types of gas chambers to apply balanced sealing pressures over the sealing surface of the valve, one type configured to receive pressurized process gas from within the device and the other configured to receive gas from an independently controlled pressurized gas source.

Abstract: In one example, we discuss the separation of the captured gases as byproducts, for future/other purposes, coming from conventional power generators or factories or from algae biofuel production facility (or any other similar sources). This increases the energy production, saves the environment, conserves the resources, improves the air quality, reduces the global warming, increases water supply, reduces the cost, and improves agriculture and food resources, around the globe. In one example, we discuss the biofuel production, method, and system.

Abstract: A brewing device includes a receptacle, which has a bottom forming a bore. A filtering member is received in the receptacle. A flow control assembly is arranged below the receptacle and is vertically movable with respect to the receptacle. The flow control assembly includes a bar extendible through the bore. An upward movement of the flow control assembly pushes away a closure member sitting on the bore. A guidance section is formed below the bore. The flow control assembly includes a flow guide section corresponding to the guidance section. When the flow control assembly is moved upward, the guidance section and the flow guide section collectively form a water passage. A brewing liquid contained in the receptacle, when discharged through the bore, is shielded by the water passage and is confined and concentrated for smooth flow thereby eliminate the occurrence of leak, splash, and overflow of the brewing liquid.

Abstract: The brewing device contains a container and a functional unit beneath the container conductive to the container. The functional unit contains a pressure section and an exit section. The pressure section is conductive to and is smaller than the container. The pressure section is configured with air holes for drawing outside air. The exit section is conductive to and is smaller than the exit section. As the brewed liquid (such as the coffee brewed from the coffee powder) flows through the pressure section, it undergoes a pre-determined pressure through the air holes. Additionally, the container and the functional unit jointly achieve Venturi effect so that the brewed liquid is sped up under greater pressure difference as it passes through the exit section. As such, the molecules of the brewed liquid are activated and thinned to achieve enhanced flavor.

Abstract: A coffee maker with continuously adjustable water flow rate, continuously adjustable feedback-controlled water temperature, and low thermal mass allows baristas to experiment with and digitally program and/or record different flow-rate and temperature profiles (brewing profiles) over the course of brewing a cup or batch of coffee. Brewing profiles may be recorded on one machine and reproduced (played back) on another machine, allowing reproducibility of subtle flavor variations in brewed coffee.

Abstract: A barbeque smoker has an angled front with a heated exhaust that increases draft and air circulation, resulting in a more even heat and smoke distribution than conventional smokers. By heating an internal chimney directly over the smoker's fire, the temperature in the exhaust is higher than it is inside the cooking chamber, thus increasing draft/air circulation. The chimney intake is positioned below the cooking grates and runs on an upward angle through the cooking chamber. The chimney terminates outside the top of the smoker. This configuration forces the chamber to uniformly fill with heat and smoke before any heat or smoke can exit the cooking chamber. The increased draft aids efficient circulation of the heat and smoke, creating a very uniform cooking environment.
