Abstract: A directional coupler has a first line capable of transmitting a high-frequency signal therethrough and a second line arranged for electromagnetic coupling with the first line in a laminated board. The first line and the second line are routed on a first conductor layer to extend in close proximity to and in parallel with each other, to form an intra-layer coupling zone for developing electromagnetic coupling between the first line and the second line. The second line is routed on a second conductor layer such that the second line partially overlaps with the first line disposed on the first conductor layer with respect to a length-wise direction, when viewed in plan, to form an inter-layer coupling space for developing electromagnetic coupling between the second line on the second conductor layer and the first line on the first conductor layer.

Abstract: An antenna device in a reading device has a main radiation direction and receives a signal transmitted by a transponder. An electronic assembly calculates a direction from the reading device to the transponder using the received signal. An orientation detector in the reading device, for example an electronic compass, detects an absolute orientation of the reading device with respect to an exterior region. While the main radiation direction of the antenna is pivoted in the region and the signal strength is measured, the orientation in the region is simultaneously detected. A correlation of the orientation that is detected at a point in time to the signal strength that is measured at the same point in time allows determination of the direction to the transponder because it can be assumed that the signal has a maximum when the main radiation direction points in the direction of the transponder.

Abstract: In various representative aspects, a security alarm system for protecting an HVAC unit from theft. The system includes an alarm; a control box; a switch connector comprising two terminals, as well as an open state and a closed state; and a fastener that holds the switch connector in the close position while connected to an HVAC unit. The conductors connect the switch connector to the control box, forming a circuit. The control box can apply an energy potential across the circuit, detect an energy flow across the circuit, and trigger the alarm if the energy flow stops. Normally, the terminals do not touch each other, and the switch connector is in its open state. When they touch each other, the switch connector goes to its closed state. If the fastener is removed from the HVAC unit, the switch connector returns to the open state and triggers the alarm.

Abstract: A system and method for protecting a merchandise item is presented. An alarm system for protecting the merchandise item includes: an alarm logic, a cable, and a switch. The cable has first and second ends with the first end adapted to be plugged into the alarm system. The switch is located at the second end of the cable and indicates when the second end of the cable is attached to the merchandise item and when the second end of the cable is not connected to the merchandise item. The second end of the cable can be connected to a standard port located on the merchandise item. The alarm system generates an alarm when the second end of the cable is not connected to the merchandise item.

Abstract: A driving assistance apparatus detects drowsiness of a driver of a vehicle while having a drowsy driving preventing function for awaking the driver having feeling of drowsiness. When erroneous detection of drowsy driving occurs frequently, the driver may deactivate the drowsy driving preventing function into an off state. The driving assistance apparatus determines a stress of the driver due to driving based on travel states of the vehicle obtained from a navigation apparatus such as traffic around the vehicle, a width and shape of a road traveled, installation states of traffic signals, and a velocity and steering angle of the vehicle. When the stress due to driving changes from a high status to a low status, the driver is regarded as being in a state of tending to be drowsy. The drowsy driving preventing function is thereby activated or turned on into an on state compulsorily.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a transponder comprising an antenna structure (31) configured to receive an incoming signal with RF power of a first frequency f1 and to retransmit the incoming signal as a transparent output signal with RF power of a second frequency f2 when hit by the incoming signal. The transponder further comprises: an amplifier (39) configured to provide an amplified transparent output signal based on the incoming signal; a frequency converter (35) configured to frequency convert the incoming signal into the transparent output signal; and a first frequency filter (33) connected to the antenna structure. The first frequency filter is tuned to the first frequency f1 to avoid amplifying incoming signals with RF power of frequencies other than the first frequency f1.

Abstract: A shield of a power cable diverts leakage current to ground. During normal operation, the leakage current is steady. An increase in leakage current can lead to a failure mode of the power cable. Systems and methods are described to measure leakage current with a current transducer, which generates a current signal based on the leakage current, and to process the current signal to provide an output of the health of the power cable.

Abstract: A method is provided for indicating automatically identified flaws on or in a test specimen. A location of a defect on or in a test specimen identified by an inspection unit is subsequently indicated. A lighting unit, for example color LEDs, is used to generate an illuminated indicator marking the location of the defect on the surface or on at least one adjoining lateral edge of the test specimen. After the automatic identification of the flaw, it is checked on the basis of quantifiable properties of the defect whether the defect meets a predefinable quality criterion, and an illuminated indicator marking the location of the defect at or on the test specimen is generated only if the quality criterion is not met. The coloring of the marking illuminated indicator is predefined depending on quantifiable properties of the defect.
