Abstract: A device secured to an elevated location and in turn supporting an item such as a computer tablet. A hinged and foldable body has first and second pivotal sections each depicting a “U” shaped cross sectional profile and convertible between a collapsed/storage configuration and an extended/use configuration in which the sections establish a continuous and three sided support surface. A pair of suspending hooks extend upwardly from spaced apart locations along the body for engaging a vertical extending (seatback tray) support edge. Depth adjustable abutment portions located beneath the hooks establish proper angular orientation in use. Laterally adjustable and vertically extending brackets support vertical edges of the item placed upon the support surface.

Abstract: A time of flight (TOF) spectrometer and a method for operating the same is disclosed. The spectrometer includes an event extractor, a streaming processor, and a FIFO buffer. The event extractor generates a ion event record corresponding to each detected ion, the ion event record including an intensity a plurality of aliases for that detected ion. The streaming processor includes a memory array that stores a TOF spectrum and a probability processor that provides a probability for each alias in each received ion event record and updates the TOF spectrum based on the probabilities. A FIFO buffer receives each of the ion event records after the TOF spectrum has been updated and outputs the oldest ion event record to the streaming processor when a new ion event record is processed by the streaming processor.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to trap, release and/or separate sample components in solution passing through a channel with or without packing material present by passing ion current through the channel driven by an electric field. A portion of the ion current includes cation and/or anion species generated from second solution flows separated from the sample solution flow path by semipermeable membranes. Cation and/or anion species generated in the second solution flow regions are transferred into the sample solution flow path through ion selective semipermeable membranes. Ion current moving along the sample solution flow path is controlled by varying the composition of the second solutions and/or changing the voltage between membrane sections for a given sample solution composition. The sample composition may also be varied separately or in parallel to enhance trapping, release and/or separation efficiency and range.

Abstract: A particle inlet system comprises a first chamber having a limiting orifice for an incoming gas stream and a micrometer controlled expansion slit. Lateral components of the momentum of the particles are substantially cancelled due to symmetry of the configuration once the laminar flow converges at the expansion slit. The particles and flow into a second chamber, which is maintained at a lower pressure than the first chamber, and then moves into a third chamber including multipole guides for electromagnetically confining the particle. The vertical momentum of the particles descending through the center of the third chamber is minimized as an upward stream of gases reduces the downward momentum of the particles. The translational kinetic energy of the particles is near-zero irrespective of the mass of the particles at an exit opening of the third chamber, which may be advantageously employed to provide enhanced mass resolution in mass spectrometry.

In order to attain the above-mentioned object, there are proposed a pattern dimension measurement method and a charged particle beam apparatus that are characterized by: forming a thin film on a sample including the pattern after carrying out beam scanning onto a first portion of the pattern; acquiring a first measurement value by scanning a beam onto a region corresponding to the first portion on which the thin film is formed; acquiring a second measurement value by scanning a beam onto a second portion that has identical dimensions as those of the first portion on design data; and finding the amount of shrinkage of the pattern based on subtraction processing of subtracting the first measurement value from the second measurement value.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a position identification system and a method for gesture identification thereof. The method for gesture identification does not use the conventional digital image capture method, instead, the method uses IR detection. In order to accurately detect the movement track of the external object, in the present invention, at least two IR LED are provided. When the first IR LED emits the IR ray signal, the second IR LED is used for receiving IR ray signal. Moreover, the present invention determines the distance between the external object and the IR LEDs by detecting the emitting IRs with different energy. Further, the present invention adopts TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) such that the present invention can grasp the distance between the first IR LED and the external object and the distance between the second IR LED and the external object. Thus, the relative position of the external object can be captured.

Abstract: A device for modulating terahertz waves includes a metal layer (703) including a continuous metal portion (705) and island metal portions (707). The metal portions (705, 707) are separated by apertures (709). The device further includes a semiconductor layer (715) affixed to a bottom surface of the metal layer (703). The semiconductor layer (715) includes carrier regions (717) located below the apertures (709). The transmission of terahertz waves through the apertures (709) is modulated by changing a voltage applied across the aperture via voltage source (715). By injecting free carriers into carrier regions (717) due to a change of the voltage an extraordinary terahertz transmission effect of the metal layer (703) can be switched off. A small increase in the free-carrier absorption is significantly enhanced by the Fabry-Perot resonance, resulting in a substantial decrease in transmission.

Abstract: Systems and methods of generating timing triggers to determine timing resolutions of gamma events for nuclear imaging includes receiving a pulse signature representing a succession of triggers associated with a photomultiplier. When a number of triggers occurring within a predetermined time interval matches a predetermined number, an event trigger can be initiated. A delayed version of the pulse signature can be generated and compared to a predetermined timing trigger level. When the delayed version matches the predetermined timing trigger level, a timing trigger can be generated. Based on the timing trigger level, the timing trigger can be generated at the pulse of the delayed version that corresponds to the first photoelectron of a gamma event. The timing trigger can correspond to a timestamp for the first photoelectron so that a data acquisition system can identify the pulse from which to acquire energy information to generate a nuclear image.
