Abstract: Some embodiments provide an architecture for establishing a multi-participant conference. This architecture has one participant's computer in the conference act as a central content distributor for the conference. The central distributor receives data (e.g., video and/or audio streams) from the computer of each other participant, and distributes the received data to the computers of all participants. In some embodiments, the central distributor receives A/V data from the computers of the other participants. From such received data, the central distributor of some embodiments generates composite data (e.g., composite image data and/or composite audio data) that the central distributor distributes back to the participants.

Abstract: Information for a video stream indicating whether the video stream includes stereoscopic three-dimensional video data can be provided to a display device. This information allows the device to determine whether to accept the video data and to properly decode and display the video data. This information can be made available for video data regardless of the codec used to encode the video. Systems, devices, and methods for transmission and reception of compatible video communications including stereoscopic three-dimensional picture information are described.

Abstract: In one example, a video coder, such as a video encoder or a video decoder, is configured to code a value for a layer identifier in a slice header for a current slice in a current layer of multi-layer video data, and, when the value for the layer identifier is not equal to zero, code a first set of syntax elements in accordance with a base video coding standard, and code a second set of one or more syntax elements in accordance with an extension to the base video coding standard. The second set of syntax elements may include a syntax element representative of a position for an identifier of an inter-layer reference picture of a reference layer in a reference picture list, and the video coder may construct the reference picture list such that the identifier of the inter-layer reference picture is located in the determined position.

Abstract: A reception side is configured to normally perform a cutout process appropriately based on cropping information. A container of a predetermined format having a video stream in which the cropping information is inserted into a header portion, for example, a transport stream, is transmitted. Interpretation information of a parameter value of the cropping information is inserted into a high-order layer of the video stream. Even when image data is one of 2-dimensional image data and stereoscopic image data of a frame-compatible scheme, the reception side can appropriately interpret the cropping information based on the interpretation information. Accordingly, it is possible to appropriately perform the cutout process (cropping) based on the cropping information and correctly generate display image data.

Abstract: A coding method for the compression of an image sequence involves firstly determining a dense motion vector field for a current image region of the image sequence by comparison with at least one further image region of the image sequence. Furthermore, a confidence vector field is determined for the current image region. The confidence vector field specifies at least one confidence value for each motion vector of the motion vector field. Based on the motion vector field and the confidence vector field, motion vector field reconstruction parameters are then determined for the current image region. Furthermore, a decoding method decodes image data of an image sequence which were coded by such a coding method.

A decoder decodes the compression coded signal of a stereoscopic image received as an input stream. A determiner evaluates a degree of a difference between a first viewpoint image and a second viewpoint image of the decoded stereoscopic image signal, and determines a display mode of the stereoscopic image signal based on the evaluation result. A picture generator generates an output image according to the determined display mode.
