The rotating wafer carrier rotor is restrained by a set of idlers that are attached to a stationary housing to provide rigid support against abrading forces. The abrading system can be operated at the very high abrading speeds used in high speed flat lapping with raised-island abrasive disks. The range of abrading pressures is large and the device can provide a wide range of torque to rotate the workholder. Vacuum can also be applied to the elastomer chamber to quickly move the wafer away from the abrading surface. Internal constraints limit the axial, lateral and circumferential motion of the workholder. Wafers can be quickly attached to the workpiece carrier with vacuum.

Abstract: A resource access system is described herein that solves problems associated with visitor access to resources at a location by using NFC or bump as a fast authentication process to grant persistent visitor rights to a resource, subject to policy conditions such as maintaining the link. The system provides a facility for granting access to NFC/bump-enabled visitors visiting a new location by assigning a persistent link with associated policy. The system provides for a bump/NFC-enabled device to authenticate with a proximate local resource and grant rights to a visiting device. This action proves that the device to be granted rights is physically present at the location of the resource, and does not involve any exchange of codes or user information with the user. The first application program identifies a first condition in which a link based on Bluetooth RF transmission exists between the first device and the second device when the person is in a first position close to or in the vehicle. The application program determines when the link is broken based on drop in signal level and provides notification through a network to a computer system when a determination is made that the link is broken. The notification is indicative of the person having moved farther away from the vehicle to a second position.

Abstract: Provided is a method for channel searching for enabling a medical body area network (MBAN) terminal, which operates in an allocated frequency band, to use another frequency band. The method may comprise the steps of receiving an identifier of a specific channel group, from among a plurality of channel groups, from an MBAN coordinator in the allocated frequency band; and searching for a channel in a channel group relating to the received identifier of the channel group in a different frequency band. The identifier of the channel group indicates a channel group including channels that the terminal preferentially searches for in the other frequency band.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for mitigating natural and man-made interference through the use of one or more orthogonal, or nearly-orthogonal, projections of the received signal, which is assumed to be contaminated with interference, into one or more orthogonal projection spaces based on properties of the signal of interest. Once separated into orthogonal projection space(s), the system and method use information contained in the orthogonal projection space(s) to separate the signal of interest, or target signal, from the interference and to mitigate the interference.

The determiner is configured to generate a representation of a difference between a first frequency at which a first signal is sampled and a second frequency at which a second signal is sampled, and the converter is configured to generate a second sample of the first signal at a second time in response to the representation and a first sample of the first signal at a first time. The adapter is configured to generate a sample of a modifier signal in response to the second sample of the first signal, and the modifier is configured to generate a modified sample of the second signal in response to a sample of the second signal and the sample of the modifier signal. For example, such an apparatus may be able to reduce the magnitude of an echo signal in a system having an audio pickup (e.g., a microphone) near an audio output (e.g., a speaker).

Abstract: Systems and methods that utilize femtocell access points (FAP) to perform radio frequency (RF) network sweeps are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes: predicting an availability of an access point (AP) to perform an RF network sweep; and determining that the access point is available to perform the RF network sweep based, at least, on a prediction that a mobile device on a white list for the access point is not likely to access the access point during a time interval associated with performing the RF network sweep. In another embodiment, a method includes: comparing a network quality characteristic for a wireless channel associated with a FAP with a network quality characteristic for a wired network communicatively coupled to the FAP. The network quality characteristics can be the same. The method can then include employing the comparison to determine to which network an impairment is attributable.

Abstract: A same-aperture any-frequency simultaneously transmit and receive (STAR) system includes a signal connector having a first port electrically coupled to an antenna, a second port electrically coupled to a transmit signal path, and a third port electrically coupled to receive signal path. The signal connector passes a transmit signal in the transmit signal path to the antenna and a receive signal in the receive signal path. A signal isolator is positioned in the transmit signal path to remove a residual portion of the receive signal from transmit signal path. An output of the signal isolator provides a portion of the transmit signal with the residual portion of the receive signal removed. A signal differencing device having a first input electrically coupled to the output of the signal isolator and a second input electrically coupled to the third port of the signal connector subtracts a portion of the transmit signal in the receive signal path thereby providing a more accurate receive signal.
