  • Patent number: 8848512
Abstract: The present invention discloses a rendezvous point convergence method and apparatus and relates to the field of communications, to solve a problem that an entire network cannot work normally for a long time because a network device cannot send a candidate RP advertisement message to a bootstrap router BSR when the network device served as a rendezvous point RP is entirely faulty. In the present invention, when a route of an original working RP is unreachable, a first node receives a bootstrap message sent by a BSR, where Holdtime of the original working RP carried in the bootstrap message is 0; and the first node disables the original working RP and enables a candidate RP as a new working RP according to the bootstrap message. The present invention is applicable to the field of communications to implement rendezvous point convergence.

  • Patent number: 8848513
Abstract: A communication system enables a node to utilize multiple communication interfaces to connect to an overlay network. The use of multiple communication interfaces provides a redundant overlay network connection, thereby enabling a node to maintain connectivity or select a preferred connection to the overlay network, increasing efficiency or reducing costs in the overlay network. A network in which member nodes obtain services in the absence of server-based infrastructure is referred to as a “peer-to-peer overlay network” (or “overlay network” or simply “overlay”). Overlay networks consist of several nodes from hundreds, to thousands, joined together in a logical routing structure. Individual nodes often participate in routing and maintenance aspects of the overlay. Typically an overlay is formed through the enrollment and joining of all these nodes as defined by the overlay protocol. Nodes forming peer-to-peer overlay networks may communicate with each other over various network technologies.

  • Patent number: 8848533
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a fabric ingress scheduler and method that distributes ingress packet traffic in a time division multiplex (TDM) system, both fabric interface aggregate and per connection, deterministically across fabric paths. Advantageously, the fabric ingress scheduler and method minimizes fabric latency and prevents fabric interface head-of-line blocking. The fabric ingress scheduler and method utilizes the fact that each connection flow has a known maximum rate which must be reserved through the fabric for prevention of data loss (essentially circuit switching using a packet fabric). In exemplary embodiments, the fabric interface supports per packet fabric path selection. Generally, the fabric ingress scheduler and method generally provides a deterministic scheduling of ingress packets to fabric paths.

  • Patent number: 8848535
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for using opportunistically delayed delivery of content to address sub-optimal bandwidth resource usage in network infrastructures that allow subscribers to share forward link resources. According to some embodiments, content is identified as delayable and assigned to a delaycast queue and/or service flow. For example, a server system of a satellite communications system identifies content that can be delayed to exploit future excess link capacity through multicasting and to exploit subscriber-side storage resources. Some implementations attempt to exploit any excess link resources at any time, while others exploit unused bandwidth only during certain times or when a certain threshold of resources is available. Various embodiments also provide content scoring and/or other prioritization techniques for optimizing exploitation of the delaycast queue.

  • Patent number: 8848536
Abstract: Stateless load balancing of network packets within a system avoids detection by a network client or end user for deep packet inspection or other bump-in-the-wire applications. At least one header field of a received packet is used in generating a hash value. The hash value is used to identify a processing resource within the system for processing the received packet. Before being sent to the identified resource, the received packet is encapsulated with a new header that includes an indication of ingress port. The encapsulation does not modify the original packet. On a return path from the identified processing resource, the ingress port is determined from the encapsulated packet, the encapsulated packet is decapsulated to obtain a recovered packet that is identical to the received packet, and the recovered packet is forwarded to the network through an egress port as determined from the recovered ingress port.

Abstract: Aspects describe utilizing the Internet capability in mobile devices/networks to deliver broadcast multimedia to a device. The broadcast can be video, audio, and so forth. Initially the broadcast multimedia is transmitted at high data rates (and in unicast mode) in order for a buffer associated with mobile device to be built to a very long buffer length. When the long buffer length is reached, the multimedia can be delivered at real-time rates. The multimedia delivered at real times rates can be unicast mode or in multicast mode. If the buffer is depleted, a mobile device that is part of a multicast group can autonomously disassociated from the group until the buffer length is restored.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) determines to initiate a communication session with at least one other UE to be arbitrated by an application server. The UE determines a type of the communication session (e.g., delay-sensitive, PTT, etc.) and/or a size of a call message to be sent by the UE for requesting initiation of the communication session by the application server. The UE selects a reverse-link channel on which to transmit the call message based at least in part upon the determined type of the communication session and/or the determined size of the call message. The UE transitions to a given state (e.g., CELL_FACH, CELL_DCH, etc.) that supports transmissions upon the selected reverse-link channel. The UE transmits the call message on the selected reverse-link channel after the UE is transitioned to the given state.
