Publication number: 20150030109Abstract: An OFDM system uses a normal mode which has a symbol length T, a guard time TG and a set of N sub-carriers, which are orthogonal over the time T, and one or more fallback modes which have symbol lengths KT and guard times KTG where K is an integer greater than unity. The same set of N sub-carriers is used for the fallback modes as for the normal mode. Since the same set of sub-carriers is used, the overall bandwidth is substantially constant, so alias filtering does not need to be adaptive. The Fourier transform operations are the same as for the normal mode. Thus fallback modes are provided with little hardware cost. In the fallback modes the increased guard time provides better delay spread tolerance and the increased symbol length provides improved signal to noise performance, and thus increased range, at the cost of reduced data rate.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 15, 2014Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventor: D.J. Publication number: 20150030110Abstract: An impulse noise mitigation circuit (INMC) may set a cut-off frequency of each of two high pass filters to bound a frequency bandwidth of a desired signal, wherein a first of the two filters allows frequencies higher than the frequency bandwidth of the desired signal, and a second of the two filters allows frequencies lower than the frequency bandwidth of the desired signal. The INMC may compute and store a mean magnitude separately for a first signal response of the first filter and a second signal response of the second filter. The INMC may select the first filter for impulse noise mitigation when the mean magnitude of the second filter is greater than the mean magnitude of the first filter. The INMC may select the second filter for impulse noise mitigation when the mean magnitude of the first filter is greater than the second filter.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 28, 2014Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventors: Andy Lo, Sugbong Kang

Publication number: 20150030123Abstract: A non-invasive method distinguishes between two types of micro-calcification by x-ray imaging in mammography. Two major types of micro-calcifications are found and confirmed by histopathology and they are correlated to benign and malignant breast lesions. Distinguishing between them non-invasively will significantly improve early breast cancer diagnosis. This is based on the fact that these two types of micro-calcifications show opposite absorption and small-angle scattering signals in x-ray imaging. The imaging system, which can record these two signals of the breast tissue simultaneously for instance, an x-ray grating interferometer, can be used to uniquely determine the micro-calcification type. This is expected to be used in mammography to improve early breast cancer diagnosis, increase diagnosis accuracy and decrease the biopsy rate.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2013Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventors: Marco Stampanoni, Zhentian Wang

Publication number: 20150030128Abstract: A first and a second accumulated value calculating units re provided which, in a location where foil shadows by grid foil strips straddle pixels, identify this location based on geometry, and calculate straddle accumulated values of the foil shadows in the identified location. Even when the foil shadows by the grid foil strips straddle the pixels due to twisting and bending of the grid foil strips, such location is identified based on geometry and the straddle accumulated values of the foil shadows in the identified location are calculated. Therefore, even when changes are made in the pitches or pixel sizes of an X-ray grid and a flat panel X-ray detector (FPD), the foil shadows will be removed based on the straddle accumulated values. Publication number: 20150030149Abstract: A conference apparatus reduces or eliminates noise in audio for endpoints in a conference. Endpoints in the conference are designated as a primary talker and as secondary talkers. Audio for the endpoints is processed with speech detectors to characterize the audio as speech or not and to determine energy levels of the audio. As the audio is written to buffers and then read from the buffers, decisions for the gain settings of faders for read audio of the endpoints being combined in the speech selective mix. In addition, the conference apparatus can mitigate the effects of a possible speech collision that may occur during the conference between endpoints.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2014Publication date: January 29, 2015Inventors: Peter L. Publication number: 20150030154Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for scrambling an original digital image into a scrambled image and for descrambling the scrambled image into a reconstructed image. The method firstly comprises a scrambling operation for substituting a plurality of original coefficients by dummy coefficients, while safeguarding the coding format, and for storing the substituted original coefficients with their respective position, as original data into at least two control objects, each control object corresponding to a specific degradation level of the original image. This method secondly comprises a descrambling operation for receiving the scrambled image and at least a part of said control objects, and for using original data derived from a selection of at least one of said control objects, performed on the basis of a user access condition, to obtain the reconstructed image by putting back the original coefficients instead of said dummy coefficients thanks to their respective position.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 19, 2012Publication date: January 29, 2015Applicant: NAGRAVISION S.A.Inventors: Pierre Sarda, Minh-Son Tran, Thierry Dagaeff
