Abstract: The application relates to the procedures Routing Area Update RAU in UTRAN and Tracking Area Update TAU in LTE. Furthermore, it relates to PDP context procedure in UTRAN as well as PDN connection procedure in LTE. In the current RAU procedure, a SGSN, which fails to update the Routing Area, e.g. because it receives the DNS return error, sends a RAU Reject with the cause code CC#17 indicating a network failure back to the user equipment (114b). The cause code CC#17 in the RAU Reject causes the user equipment to send a new RAU Request. Thus, the user equipment is stuck in a loop of sending a RAU Request and receiving a RAU Reject. This problem is solved by the present application in that SGSN keeps track of the number of rejections when doing RAU. When the number of rejections is above a certain threshold, the SGSN will send a RAU Reject with cause code CC#10 to the user equipment (115b), whereby the cause code CC#10 indicates implicit detach of the user equipment.

Abstract: A method for coordinating transmissions between different communications apparatuses in a communications system. The method obtains a sub-frame indicator carried in a first control signal transmitted in a control region of a first sub-frame received from an evolved node B (eNB), wherein the sub-frame indicator indicates resource allocation of one or more sub-frame following the first sub-frame. The method then determines whether a second sub-frame following the first sub-frame and received from the eNB is an almost blank sub-frame according to the sub-frame indicator. When the second sub-frame is not the almost blank sub-frame, obtaining information regarding a start position of a data region of the second sub-frame from a second control signal transmitted in a control region of the second sub-frame.

Abstract: A communications apparatus is provided. A controller module obtains information regarding a Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) round trip time (RTT) in an HARQ process, arranging one or more almost blank sub-frame(s) in one or more frame(s) according to the HARQ RTT information and generating a sub-frame pattern describing the arrangement of the almost blank sub-frame(s), wherein the HARQ RTT is defined by the communications system. A transceiver module transmits at least a signal carrying information regarding the sub-frame pattern to a peer communications apparatus in the communications system. In addition, at least one almost blank sub-frame in the sub-frame pattern is arranged in a sub-frame for the peer communications apparatus to transmit an uplink grant message for granting an user equipment to transmit uplink data to the peer communications apparatus.

Abstract: A method in a wireless terminal transceiver includes receiving a sequence of frames from a first base station, wherein each frame in the sequence contains a first set of time-frequency resources which may be used for scheduling data and a second set of time-frequency resources not used for scheduling data. The transceiver also receives a message from the first base station identifying a third set of time-frequency resources that is a subset of the first set of time-frequency resources, and estimates the channel state based on the transmission received in the third set of time-frequency resources.

Abstract: Enhanced physical downlink control channel are multiplexed with physical downlink data channel in frequency division multiplexing (FDM), or in frequency division multiplexing (FDM)+time division multiplexing (TDM). FDM mode applies to users that have only UL grants in that subframe. UL grants of different users are cross-interleaved and transmitted over the entire physical resource blocks (both slots) in FDM. Frequency resources for cross-interleaved UL grants are distributed. TDM+FDM applies to users that have both DL and UL grants, or have only DL grant in that subframe. DL/UL grant (maybe mixed) is transmitted only in the first slot of physical resource blocks in TDM+FDM, where the second slots in those resource blocks can be used for those users' downlink data transmission.

Abstract: The application relates to the removal of one of the links in multi-flow HSPA but the proposed method is also applicable to normal HSDPA operation during handover. In particular the application aims at minimizing the negative impact of a removed radio link, i.e. drop of packets and/or delays. According to the proposed method, in which the radio link to be removed is via a first Node B NB1 (RL Removal Req), the NB1 ends the pending data transmission and informs the controlling RNC about the data which was not transmitted, in particular in the form of the lowest sequence number in its buffer. Subsequently, the RNC decides, based on this sequence number, which data packets need to be retransmitted on a second radio link via a second node B NB2, and instructs NB2 accordingly (Data Forwarding).

Abstract: A wireless communication system allows a handover operation to a base station communicating through a plurality of frequency bands. The mobile terminal includes a communication unit adapted to perform communication with any of the base stations through a plurality of frequency bands. The communication unit of the base station notifies, when communication through a plurality of frequency bands is possible, a mobile terminal about information directed to identifying a main frequency band from relevant frequency bands in a manner allowing discrimination from one or more frequency bands other than the main frequency band. The communication unit of the mobile terminal determines that, upon receiving information directed to identifying a main frequency band from the second base station during having communication connection with the first base station, that the frequency band identified by the relevant information is a subject of handover towards the second base station.

Abstract: Packet data protocol (PDP) contexts are managed upon cellular-to-femto handover, wherein femto network has disparate capabilities to support applications with distinct access point names (APNs) and quality of service (QoS) profiles. Based at least on activity factors of applications associated with PDP contexts, a QoS-based ranking of PDP contexts, and subscriber input, cellular network platform selects active PDP contexts to retain and suspend upon handover. A group of active PDP contexts is handed off in accordance with femto coverage capability, with remaining active PDP contexts suspended during handover. When a suspended PDP context, and application associated therewith, is resumed through femto coverage, a PDP context modification is conducted with a new APN and the application is routed to a corresponding femto gateway node and application server. Additionally, femto network platform performs a radio access bearer reconfiguration to meet QoS requirements of the resumed PDP context.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for storing, manipulating, retrieving, and forwarding state, e.g., context and other information, used to support communications sessions with one or more end nodes, e.g., mobile devices, are described. Various features are directed to a mobile node controlling the transfer of state from a first access node to a second access node during a handoff operation thereby eliminating any need for state transfer messages to be transmitted between the second access node and the first access node during handoff. Other features of the invention are directed to the use of a core network node to store state information. State information stored in the core node can be accessed and used by access nodes in cases where a mobile node does not send a state transfer message during a handoff, e.g., because communication with the first access node is lost or because such messages are not supported.

A packet transmitting apparatus begins a transmission of a packet and receives an Ack regarding the transmission. The Ack may indicate early decoding of a packet comprised in the transmission.
