  • Patent number: 9296065
Abstract: In a method for ultrasonic bonding, two longitudinal ultrasonic waves propagating in a common working plane oriented parallel to a substrate are induced in one or more ultrasonic transducers and are passed through ultrasound-conducting arms from different spatial directions onto a common connection point of the arms. At the connection point the ultrasonic waves cause an ultrasonic tool arranged directly or indirectly at said connection point to oscillate in two or three dimensions. At least one of the ultrasonic transducers induces an ultrasonic wave with a first harmonic oscillation component and a second oscillation component.

  • Patent number: 9296066
Abstract: A method is provided for the internal processing of a transparent substrate in preparation for a cleaving step. The substrate is irradiated with a focused laser beam that includes pulses having an energy and pulse duration selected to produce a filament within the substrate. The substrate is translated relative to the laser beam to irradiate the substrate and produce an additional filament at one or more additional locations. The resulting filaments form an array defining an internally scribed path for cleaving the substrate. Laser beam parameters may be varied to adjust the filament length and position, and to optionally introduce V-channels or grooves. The laser pulses may be delivered in a burst train for lowering the energy threshold for filament formation, increasing filament length, thermally annealing of the filament modification zone to minimize collateral damage, and increasing the processing speed compared with the use of low repetition rate lasers.

Abstract: A method of preparing an apparatus for material processing by generating optical breakthroughs in an object. The apparatus includes a variable focus adjustment device. A contact element is mounted to the apparatus, the contact element has a curved contact surface having a previously known shape. The position of the contact surface is determined prior to processing the object, by focusing measurement laser radiation near or on the surface by the variable focus adjustment device, and the focus position is adjusted in a measurement surface intersecting the expected position of the contact surface. Radiation from the focus of the measurement laser radiation is confocally detected. The position of points of intersection between the measurement surface and the contact surface is determined from the confocally detected radiation to determine the position of the contact surface from the position of the points of intersection and the previously known shape of the contact surface.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for arbitration of control signals for robotic devices. A robotic device may comprise an adaptive controller comprising a plurality of predictors configured to provide multiple predicted control signals based on one or more of the teaching input, sensory input, and/or performance. The predicted control signals may be configured to cause two or more actions that may be in conflict with one another and/or utilize a shared resource. An arbitrator may be employed to select one of the actions. The selection process may utilize a WTA, reinforcement, and/or supervisory mechanisms in order to inhibit one or more predicted signals. The arbitrator output may comprise target state information that may be provided to the predictor block. Prior to arbitration, the predicted control signals may be combined with inputs provided by an external control entity in order to reduce learning time.
