Abstract: A hypervisor preferably provides VM (virtual machine) identification, priority and LUN/LBA range information to the HBA (hoist bus adapter) when a VM is created. Alternatively, the HBA can determine that a LUN/LBA range is new and request VM identity, priority and LUN/LBA range from the hypervisor. The HBA creates a table containing the VM identification, priority and LUN/LBA range. The HBA then detects operations directed to the LUN/LBA range and does a lookup to determine VM identification and priority. VM identification and priority are then mapped into a field in a frame using a unique identifier. The unique identifier can be placed using reserved bits on the existing Fibre Channel (FC) header or can use bits in an additional header, such as a modified IFR header or an optional device header. The VM identification aware HBAs register with the NS.

In this regard, in one aspect, a virtualization layer is provided in a storage controller as an interface between one or more clients and a storage device. The storage controller is configured to trap storage resource requests from a client. A virtualized resource manager creates a virtual resource allocation that corresponds to a physical resource allocation in the storage device. The client receives the virtual resource allocation from the virtualization layer and subsequently accesses the virtual resource allocation through the storage controller as if the client were the sole user of the storage device. By trapping the storage resource requests at the storage controller and providing the virtual resource allocations to the one or more clients, it is possible to share compatibly the storage device among the one or more clients in a virtualized environment.

Abstract: In a method for controlling data stored in an Solid State Disk (SSD) of a data de-duplication system, a storage controller obtains stability information of a data block. The stability information comprises a reference count of the data block and a length of a period of time when the data block is stored in the SSD. The storage controller identifies a stability level of the data block according to the stability information, and sends the stability level of the data block to the SSD. The SSD moves the data block to a target block which corresponds to the stability level. Thereby, the SSD can store data blocks having a same stability level together.

Abstract: A microcontroller includes a microprocessor, a serial flash memory interface, and input/output (I/O) terminals for coupling the serial flash memory interface to external serial flash memory. The microprocessor is operable to generate instruction frames that trigger respective commands to read data from specified addresses in the external serial flash memory. The serial flash memory interface receives and processes the instruction frames, obtains the data contained in the specified addresses in the external serial flash memory regardless of whether the specified addresses are sequential or non-sequential, and provides the data for use by the microprocessor.

Abstract: Systems, apparatus, and methods for interfacing device management software and printing devices are provided. A computing device with device management software can send a discovery message requesting primary identification information to a printing device. The primary identification information can include a model name and a firmware version of the printing device. The computing device can receive the primary identification information from the printing device. The computing device can send a request message for model-dependent information based on the primary identification information to a server device. The computing device can receive a response to the request message from the server device that includes the model-dependent information. The computing device can generate a user interface (UI) display based on the model-dependent information in the response to the request message.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for identifying constraints to reducing consumable usage includes acquiring print job information for a set of print jobs submitted for printing by a set of users. A print job representation is computed for each of the print jobs from the print job information. Provision is made for user-annotation of a note associated with the submitted print jobs including a reason for printing the print job. User-annotations are received for at least some of the submitted print jobs. The print jobs may be clustered into clusters based on the print job representations and annotations. A representation of the set of print jobs includes a user dashboard and a group dashboard is generated which is based on the users' annotations and other users' included in a group to provide a structure for collaboration among the group members to identify the constraints to reducing consumable usage and/or provide solutions to reduce consumable usage.

Abstract: In a case of a first function of carrying out a cooperative processing in accordance with an instruction from a user of a multifunction peripheral (10), the user is set as an execution user. In a case of a second function of carrying out a cooperative processing in accordance with an instruction from an application, a user instructed by the application is set as an execution user. Further, in a case where an execution user of a cooperative processing carried out using the first function and an execution user of a cooperative processing carried out using the second function are identical, use history information of the execution user is managed as use history information of a single user. This makes it possible to appropriately manage use history information of a cooperative processing.
