  • Patent number: 9453644
Abstract: A method and system for generating electrical power in which a high pressure synthesis gas stream generated in a gasifier is partially oxidized in an oxygen transport membrane based reactor, expanded and thereafter, is combusted in an oxygen transport membrane based boiler. A low pressure synthesis gas slip stream is split off downstream of the expanders and used as the source of fuel in the oxygen transport membrane based partial oxidation reactors to allow the oxygen transport membrane to operate at low fuel pressures with high fuel utilization. The combustion within the boiler generates heat to raise steam to in turn generate electricity by a generator coupled to a steam turbine. The resultant flue gas can be purified to produce a carbon dioxide product.

  • Patent number: 9453646
Abstract: An improved combustor is disclosed in which conventional combustion is changed to “rich to quench to lean” by changing the air entry arrangement in the liner of the combustor to remove mixing holes, reduce liner cooling and admit dilution air into the combustor liner in place of mixing air. In an alternative embodiment, dilution air is admitted into the combustor liner with the help of a plurality of pipes arranged so that air comes into the liner as a swirling flow in a direction opposite to nozzle swirl, so as to thereby produce a large mixing of air with the combustion gases and a resulting quenching effect, i.e., a rapid cooling of the combustion gases by quenching air. As such, the requirement for cooling water to quench the combustion gases is significantly reduced, thereby helping turbine efficiency and reducing turbine emissions.

  • Patent number: 9453648
Abstract: A furnace is disclosed that includes a burner with a firing rate that is variable between a minimum and a maximum firing rate. After a call for heat is received, the firing rate is set to an initial level above the minimum firing rate, and the burner is ignited. The firing rate is then modulated downward toward the minimum firing rate. If the flame is lost during or after modulation, the burner is reignited and the firing rate is maintained above the firing rate at which the flame was lost until the current call for heat is satisfied. In some cases, the firing rate is maintained until one or more subsequent calls for heat are satisfied.

  • Patent number: 9453664
Abstract: High efficiency heat pump combining absorption and solution concentration change. The method gives a few times higher efficiency for heat transfer applications like heating—air conditioning. It is a heat and mechanical compression method using liquid electrolyte solutions, combining steam absorption, solution concentration change and mechanical compression. There is no heat consumption. Steam condensation is performed by a high concentration solution and vaporization from a low concentration solution reducing in this way the required mechanical compression of the known refrigeration cycle. The method may be used for work production too, exploiting moderate temperature heat sources.

Abstract: A method and main heat exchange system for use in a cryogenic air separation plant in which down-flow and thermosiphon heat exchangers are employed to partially vaporize an oxygen-rich liquid produced in a lower pressure column and to condense the nitrogen-rich vapor in a higher pressure column. A greater proportion of the oxygen-rich liquid can be partially vaporized in the down-flow heat exchangers than in the thermosiphon heat exchangers and the nitrogen-rich vapor condensed in the thermosiphon heat exchangers can have a higher oxygen content than the nitrogen-rich vapor condensed in the down-flow heat exchangers. This allows the higher pressure column to operate at a lower pressure than would otherwise be possible. Abstract: A controller of a heat treatment apparatus forms a phosphorous-doped polysilicon film (D-poly film) on a semiconductor wafer, and determines whether the D-poly film satisfies a target heat treatment characteristic. When it is determined that the target heat treatment characteristic is not satisfied, the controller calculates a temperature in a reaction tube and flow rates of process gas supply pipes, which satisfy the target heat treatment characteristic, based on a heat treatment characteristic of the D-poly film and a model indicating relationships between changes in the temperature in the reaction tube and the flow rates of the process gas supply pipes, and a change in a heat treatment characteristic. The controller forms the D-poly film on the semiconductor wafer according to heat treatment conditions including the calculated temperature and the calculated flow rates, so as to satisfy the target heat treatment characteristic.
