Abstract: A method of welding two adjacent components together includes determining geometrical dimensions of the components to be welded and determining material properties of the components to be welded. The method includes selecting an optimised weld torch velocity and voltage by selecting an iteration parameter of weld torch velocity and voltage, and calculating an expected heat flux distribution that will be generated in components during a welding process as a function of the geometrical dimensions of the components and the material properties of the components. The heat flux distribution is constrained to be ellipsoidal in an initial weld region and conical in the remainder of the weld. The method includes iterating using the iteration parameter until an optimised weld torch velocity and voltage is obtained. The welding torch is then set to weld the components at the determined optimum velocity and voltage.

Abstract: A laser polishing method for a metal face seal is provided. The method includes determining, using a processor, a first smoothness level of a seal face surface of the metal face seal. The method includes applying, using the processor, a laser beam at a first angle to at least one peak on the seal face surface of the metal face seal, the first angle measured relative to a normal to the seal face surface. The method includes determining, using the processor, a second smoothness level of the seal face surface. The method includes controlling, using the processor, the laser beam until the second smoothness level is equal to a threshold smoothness level. The method includes turning off the laser beam, using the processor, when the second smoothness level is equal to the threshold smoothness level isotropically over the seal face surface.

Abstract: A laser processing system and method for cutting individual parts from a continuous moving web of substrate material. The laser system is configured to cleanly cut individual parts from a moving web without severing or damaging a supporting conveyor belt by partially processing the substrate as the substrate passes over a first conveyor belt comprising a plurality of individual belts spaced apart across the width of the web. The laser is directed to process the substrate according to gaps in the apparatus below the substrate, that is the laser is configured to process the substrate along a path wherein the substrate is passed over air rather than a physical support or conveyor. The finishing of the singulation of the individual part is completed by laser processing the web as it passes over a gap between a first conveyor and a second conveyor system.

Abstract: A laser waveguide (22) with a tubular wall (24) that conducts laser energy (30) from a near end (23) to a far end (27) of the waveguide. A filler feed wire (36) slides through the hollow center of the waveguide. A laser emitter (40) delivers laser beam energy (30) to a first end of the waveguide within an acceptance angle A. The laser beam may be non-parallel to an axis (25) of the waveguide by at least 20 degrees to provide room for the laser emitter beside the feed wire. The near end of the waveguide may be flared (23C) to accept a laser beam at a greater angle from the axis. The beam exits the waveguide (32) with an annular energy distribution about the feed wire, and may be focused toward the feed wire by a lens (34) having an axial hole (37) for the wire.

Abstract: In the flux applying device, a control portion controls conveying rollers or the like so that thickness of flux applied to solder is controlled. The winding roller rotates so that the solder is conveyed at the conveying speed. The drawing-out roller applies any load (back tension) to the solder backward along the conveying direction of the solder when drawing out the solder. The solder is conveyed at the predetermined speed and dipped into the flux tank containing flux. The solder is pulled up from the flux tank at the conveying speed vertically. By pulling up the solder from the flux tank at the constant conveying speed vertically, the interfacial tension acts on the solder 9a and the flux, so that the flux having a uniform thickness according to the conveying speed remains on the surface and back surface of the solder.

The shaft may be arranged rotatably in bearing receptacles of the housing part, and the functional element may be fastened by a hub opening on a thickened portion of the shaft.
