Abstract: Method and Apparatus for Treatment of Aqueous Dispersion A method and apparatus for applying electrocoagulation treatment to an aqueous dispersion includes: flowing the aqueous dispersion through a region with sacrificial electrodes located between opposed electrodes, and applying a voltage across the electrodes to pass a current. The voltage is maintained at a value V max when the conductivity of the aqueous dispersion is S min or less and the voltage is allowed to decrease to values less than V max as the conductivity of the aqueous dispersion increases. Electrolyte may be added to the aqueous dispersion at low conductivities to further reduce power consumption. The invention allows the electrocoagulation process to operate automatically, without operator intervention, over a wide range of particulate levels with reduced electrical power consumption.

Abstract: A process and an associated facility for treating ammonium-containing wastewater are specified. Ammonium present in the wastewater is first oxidized to nitrite by use of aerobically oxidizing bacteria in an activation unit. Then ammonium and nitrite are reduced to elemental nitrogen anaerobically by use of ANAMMOX bacteria. Excess sludge arising in this operation is removed from the activation unit. ANAMMOX bacteria removed with the excess sludge are separated and returned to the activation unit. To facilitate the returning of the ANAMMOX bacteria, magnetic or magnetizable expanded glass particles are added, as colonization bodies for the ANAMMOX bacteria, to the wastewater in the activation unit. Expanded glass particles removed from the activation unit with the excess sludge are separated from the excess sludge magnetically and returned to the activation unit.

Abstract: The invention proposed a novel hot pressing flowing sintering method to fabricate textured ceramics. The perfectly 2-dimensional textured Si3N4 ceramics (Lotgering orientation factor fL 0.9975) were fabricated by this method. During the initial sintering stage, the specimen flowed along the plane which is perpendicular to the hot pressing direction under pressure, through the controlling of the graphite die movement. The rod-like ?-Si3N4 nuclei was easily to texture during the flowing process, due to the small size of the ?-Si3N4 nuclei and the high porosity of the flowing specimen. After aligned, the ?-Si3N4 grains grew along the materials flowing direction with little constraint. textured Si3N4 ceramics fabricated by this invention also showed high aspect ratio. Compared to the conventional hot-forging technique which contained the sintering and forging processes, hot pressing flowing sintering proposed is simpler and lower cost to fabricate textured Si3N4.

Abstract: A system and process for removing divalent ions from a MEG feed stream is presented. The system includes a chemical treatment tank where chemicals are mixed with the feed stream to form insoluble carbonate and hydroxide salts. The system also includes a solid-liquid separation unit that receives the feed stream from the chemical treatment tank and separates it into a liquids portion containing MEG and a insoluble salts portion. The system may also include washing the insoluble salts portion to remove additional MEG, which is then recycled to a MEG regeneration or reclamation process. The system may also include a dryer that receives waste slurry from the solid-liquid separation unit and dries it to form a solid waste, thereby facilitating its handling, storage, and disposal.
