Abstract: The present invention relates to an inter-layer prediction method and to an apparatus implementing the method. The method may comprise the steps of generating a first block constituted by the value obtained by up-sampling the reconstruction value of a reference block of a reference layer corresponding to the current block; generating a second block constituted by a prediction value derived from intra-prediction mode of the current block; and generating a prediction block of the current block by combining sample values of the first block and the second block. Thus, intra-prediction on the current layer can be performed using the intra-prediction mode information of another layer.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a technique for encoding and decoding video data, and more particularly, to a method for performing inter-prediction in an effective manner. The present invention combines an inter-prediction method using an AMVP mode and an inter-prediction method using a merge mode so as to propose a method for using the same candidate. The method for encoding video data proposed by the present invention comprises the following steps: receiving mode information on an inter-prediction method of a current block; determining, on the basis of the received mode information, whether the interprediction method to be applied to the current block is an AMVP mode or a merge mode; and selecting a candidate to derive motion information of the current block, wherein the candidate is selected in a left region, top region and corner region of the current block and in the same position block as the current block, and the AMVP mode and the merge mode are applied on the basis of the selected candidate.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for facilitating processing a reference frame to produce an output frame. Motion vector data for a block of reference frame pels estimates the displacement of the reference frame pels from corresponding pels in a prior input frame. Comparison metrics are produced for a pel of the reference frame with respect to that pel and a plurality of neighboring reference frame pels. A first comparison metric is based on a comparison with corresponding pels of a prior output frame that corresponds to the prior input frame as previously processed. A second comparison metric is based on a comparison with corresponding pels of a motion compensated prior output frame derived from applying motion vector data to the pels of the prior output frame. A pel of the output frame that corresponds to the reference frame pel is determined using the first and second comparison metrics.

Abstract: An appropriate motion vector to assign to a pixel in a digital video frame is performed by a comparison of motion vectors of particular surrounding pixels. Direction of at least one of color transition or color brightness transition in the digital video frame is detected to detect direction of object boundaries in the digital video frame. The particular surrounding pixels are selected and grouped (filtered) according to the detected object boundary direction at each pixel. A comparison of the motion vectors of the surrounding pixels then provides information on which group of pixels to assign a current pixel being processed based in part on how close the motion vectors of the surrounding groups match a group pixels to which the pixel being processed belongs.

Abstract: The described technology is directed towards returning expanded data, beyond the data that was specifically requested, to a client, in order to reduce or eliminate likely subsequent requests for more data. Client requests for data items are processed by expansion rule logic to find an expansion rule set (e.g., file) corresponding to the identified data item. The rule set is used to expand requests for certain data items into expanded requests that return more data items than those requested. Client devices receive, cache and (often) use the cached expanded data items, which thereby reduces the overall number of requests to the data service. Expansion rules may be based upon observations (e.g., machine learned and/or manual) of request patterns, so as to reasonably predict which data item or items clients will likely next need, and return those as expanded data items in anticipation of their need.

Abstract: An amplifier, a circuit, and an optical communication system are provided. The disclosed amplifier may include a single-to-differential variable gain amplifier having a variable resistor switch that substantially always operates in a triode region at all time. Said another way, the resistor switch is configured to operate in a triode region regardless of whether or not a first portion of an input signal to the variable gain amplifier is larger than a second portion of the input signal. The disclosed scheme helps to keep the variable resistor switch in the triode region in all cases of operation, thereby maintaining the linearity condition and reducing distortion in the variable gain amplifier.
