Publication number: 20170292527Abstract: A centrifugal pump, and components thereof, operable at high speeds, is described under the present disclosure. A hard polymer sleeve can be applied to certain surfaces of a seal casing within the pump. If the sleeve is applied along surfaces near the center shaft, then the hard polymer will withstand the forces and pressures of the system. The hard polymer might not be used along the outer diameter, farther from the shaft, because velocities are higher the further out one goes. The current disclosure allows for the use of fluoropolymer in the lining sleeve. The benefits of fluoropolymer have been unavailable in high speed centrifugal pumps because the forces are too great on the periphery of the seal casing. However, the lower speeds along the interior, near the shaft, allow fluoropolymer to be used.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2016Publication date: October 12, 2017Applicant: Sundyne, LLCInventors: David R. Publication number: 20170292546Abstract: A stress-engineered frangible structure includes multiple discrete glass members interconnected by inter-structure bonds to form a complex structural shape. Each glass member includes strengthened (i.e., by way of stress-engineering) glass material portions that are configured to transmit propagating fracture forces throughout the glass member. Each inter-structure bond includes a bonding member (e.g., glass-frit or adhesive) connected to weaker (e.g., untreated, unstrengthened, etched, or thinner) glass member region(s) disposed on one or both interconnected glass members that function to reliably transfer propagating fracture forces from one glass member to other glass member. An optional trigger mechanism generates an initial fracture force in a first (most-upstream) glass member, and the resulting propagating fracture forces are transferred by way of inter-structure bonds to all downstream glass members.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2016Publication date: October 12, 2017Inventors: Scott J. Publication number: 20170292547Abstract: Provided are assemblies having composite structures interlocked with shape memory alloy structures and methods of fabricating such assemblies. Interlocking may involve inserting an interlocking protrusion of a shape memory alloy structure into an interlocking opening of a composite structure and heating at least this protrusion of the shape memory alloy structure to activate the alloy and change the shape of the protrusion. This shape change engages the protrusion in the opening such that the protrusion cannot be removed from the opening. The shape memory alloy structure may be specifically trained prior to forming an assembly using a combination of thermal cycling and deformation to achieve specific pre-activation and post-activation shapes. The pre-activation shape allows inserting the interlocking protrusion into the opening, while the post-activation shape engages the interlocking protrusion within the opening. As such, activation of the shape memory alloy interlocks the two structures.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2017Publication date: October 12, 2017Applicant: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Waeil M. Publication number: 20170292549Abstract: A joint assembly includes a structural body having a key which projects cantilevered from an abutment surface. The key includes a stem with a first stem portion having a reduced transverse encumbrance, and a second stem portion from which fins project and define locking surfaces. A seat body includes an abutment counter-surface facing the abutment surface. A seat is formed by opening from the abutment counter-surface, which delimits a key entry slot. A first seat portion proximate the entry slot allows insertion of the key if the fins are aligned with the entry slot. A second seat portion internal and opposite the entry slot widens to allow free rotation of the key. The seat body forms locking counter-surfaces having an inclined plane portion moving away from the entry slot so that key rotation brings the abutment surface in force-contact against the abutment counter-surface, creating a firm frictional fit.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 6, 2017Publication date: October 12, 2017Inventors: Daniele DEL MISSIER, Giuliano MOSCONI

Publication number: 20170292550Abstract: A lateral positioning device coupled to a first object to laterally engage or interfere with a second object. The lateral positioning device includes a body portion and positioning element. The body portion is coupled to the first object in a first direction and has a through hole which has therein a limiting portion and extends in a second direction, with an angle formed between the first and second directions. The positioning element is penetratingly disposed in the through hole and limited by the limiting portion to thereby move in the second direction. The positioning element has an engaging portion disposed on the first side of the limiting portion to allow the engaging portion to engage with the second object; a stopping portion disposed on the second side of the limiting portion; and a neck portion connecting with the engaging and stopping portions and passing through the limiting portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2017Publication date: October 12, 2017Inventor: TING-JUI WANG

Publication number: 20170292551Abstract: A joint device rotatably connecting a functional component to a fixing structure includes a bearing shell having a first guide body with a curved first guide face, and a second guide body with a second guide face. The bearing shell connects to either the functional component or the fixing structure. An inner body having a connection portion and a guide portion is arranged between the first and second guide faces. The connection portion connects to the other of the functional component or the fixing structure. The guide portion is movably guided on the first and second guide faces about a first rotational axis defined by the curved first guide face. The connection portion or the bearing shell connects to the fixing structure by a pin. A second rotational axis extending transversely to the first rotational axis is defined by a pin central axis and/or the first guide face curvature.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2017Publication date: October 12, 2017Inventors: Hermann Benthien, Andreas Poppe
