Abstract: Disclosed is a device for regulating the compression force of a spring-spacer assembly provided in a mechanical shaft seal in a system including a motor and a pump or compressor. The device includes a spacer made from shape memory alloy, a spring in line with the spacer, and a heater proximate the spacer. When heated, the spacer contracts in length, resulting in a decrease in compression force. Also disclosed are systems and methods utilizing the device. The device is particularly useful when starting a pump or compressor to reduce friction in the mechanical seal. Existing mechanical seals can be easily retrofitted with the device.

Abstract: A spring-driven guided check valve which eliminates fluttering of the disc as it moves between the open and closed position against a seat. A disc has an integrated guide which slides against a sleeve inside the body of the valve. This configuration only allows linear movement of the seat in a direction towards (and away) from an inlet face without changing the orientation of the disc. The disc is held in a constant orientation and thus cannot shift at an inclined attitude (flutter). Thus, once the valve closes and the disc makes contact with the seat, the entire disc would contact the entire seat at the same point in time because of the parallel orientation of the disc to the contacting surface of the seat.

Abstract: A valve comprising a shoulder, a movable check member having a wall facing the shoulder and a coupling member. The movable check member is adapted to prevent fluid passage through or out of the valve when in contact with the shoulder. The coupling member is adapted to displace the movable check member away from the shoulder responsive to the pressure being applied on the wall exceeding a predetermined threshold. The coupling member is further adapted to retract and maintain the movable check member secured against the shoulder responsive to the fluid flow pressure at the wall dropping below the threshold.

Abstract: The present invention is a small universal smart phone stand that can fit on a key chain. It can stand a smart phone to custom viewing angles. It transforms from flat into a custom smart phone stand, by just bending two flaps. When the flaps are bent, it creates a gap in-between them. This is where a smart phone is held. One flap is the front support, the other is the back support. The angle of which the flaps are bent into, adjusts the angle of the smart phone. The present invention is made of a shape retaining material. That allows the flaps to retain the shape they are bent into.

Abstract: A first embodiment of the disclosure provides a system for detection of intrusion into a working space of a material testing device wherein visual user detection system uses digital image processing and filtering in order to identify user entry into the specimen test space. The visual user detection system has built-in redundancy for safety compliance and further can be used for data entry with respect to test data setup and configuration. A second embodiment of the disclosure uses a digital camera mounted on the frame of the material testing device, oriented toward a striped pattern on the top of the front base cover. The striped pattern is recognized by a vision algorithm which creates virtual boundary lines within the pattern. A detected intrusion, such as by a user body part, will be detected and the material testing machine put into a safe state.
